What a delicious documentary! With lovely testimonies of very charismatic couple of elder former cangaceiros of the band of Lampeão himself, and great footage of both Brazilian cinema and original historical filming by Lebanese photographer Benjamin Abrahão, this is a remarkable film on Cangaço, almost mythic Northeastern Brazilian banditism in the first decades of XXth century. Great stories are told by historians, Moreno and Durvinha, by their son and daughter, and by people they met after seven or more decades distant! The film shows their costumes, concerns, intimacy with other famous cangaceiros, previously unrevealled details, the role of coiteiros (those who helped cangaceiros) and how powerful people were among them, the violence of both cangaceiros and volantes (also known as "monkeys", they were the policimen specialized in fighting cangaceiros, very explored in their labor conditions and recruited very young), the varied ways how women joined Cangaço or dealt with it, and many other fascinating stories, mainly those concerning those two leading characters in this movie, who were very important people inside the most influential Cangaço band ever. While the film is not very linear, it is charming, moving, engaging and interesting all the time.
