The Peanut Man

The first part of the movie takes liberties with history. The movie flashes back to 1869. George, his sister, and a friend are dressed nicely and playing leisurely in a field. Later, he and his sister are grabbed by slave raiders while they're in their small, well-built cabin and he's sitting in a nice brass bed. Moses Carter tracks down the raiders and George, buys back George Carver, and vows to continue to search for the mom.

While the movie is cute, some of portrayals or information is either inaccurate or unlikely. 1. Slavery ended prior to 1869. 2. Enslaved children wouldn't have dressed nicely. 3. Slave cabins were not well-built or furnished nicely. 4. Moses was their slave owner. He searched for them because he wanted his property back, not because he was some benevolent person.

The writers took unnecessary liberties with his childhood when the facts make his life story more compelling than this movie suggests. It is a cute movie that's based on a true story.
