Avis à la une
My Oxford Year desperately wants to be a Love Story for the 21st century, presumably with the object of leaving its audience sobbing uncontrollably. Unfortunately, the plotting is so obviously contrived and predictable that it's unlikely to achieve that goal with any but the most susceptible viewer. The best it manages to be is Emily In Paris: The Movie. Sofia Carson as Anna looks a bit like Lily Collins, but doesn't have anywhere near as much charisma or charm. Or the ability to make ridiculous outfits seem chic, or at least fun. We fare better with Corey Mylchreest, who brings a Montgomery Clift-like vibe to Jamie, and easily steals the movie. Despite being the healthiest looking cancer sufferer in the history of cinema. Dougray Scott deserves special mention for going above and beyond to bring some real emotional depth as Jamie's father. Great locations and an excellent supporting cast just about make it worth enduring the endless cliches. But you'll probably suss that out within the first ten minutes.
I watched My Oxford Year on Netflix, and honestly, I was pretty disappointed. Sophia Carson's character, Anna, was just so unlikable. She came across as way too full of herself, with this smug ego that made it hard to root for her. It was off-putting enough to make me want to switch it off at times. The storyline felt like a blatant rip-off of Me Before You-same vibes, same predictable script, just not as well done. The acting didn't help either; it was stiff and wooden across the board, like nobody was really connecting with their roles. I wanted to like it, but it just didn't deliver. Maybe it's just me, but I'd give this one a pass.
- Complete letdown! The pacing was too rushed, and I couldn't connect with the characters. The romance felt forced, with no build-up or development. One minute they were strangers, and the next they were in a situationship - it felt unrealistic. I craved a slow burn, seeing their connection and feelings grow, but it wasn't there. The music clashed with the romantic scenes, being too fast-paced and loud. The emotional impact was lost, leaving me feeling unsatisfied. Overall, it felt dry and uninspiring.
Corny? Absolutely. Cliché? Every damn minute. But did I eat it up like emotional comfort food? Without shame.
American girl with big dreams meets tortured British guy at Oxford. They hate each other, fall in love, and there's of course a tragic twist. It's every trope you've seen before, rainy kisses, scarf moments, emotional monologues, and yet it works.
Manipulative? 100%. Predictable? Hell yes.
Would I watch it again? Hell no.
Unoriginal, but irresistible. Well done Netflix!

Her acting ruined the movie...she was stiff the whole time, soo unnatural. He was so much better, but they doesnt look good together..they didn't leave the impression of a couple in love..the story tells us so and the story is good but the acting spoils it..his acting was much more natural..but best acting has his father..other is pritty much clasik.

- AnecdotesStudents at Oxford must also be members of one of the constituent colleges. Magdalen College, widely considered the most beautiful, is Anna's home for her year.
- GaffesRomantic relationships between a tutor and a student at Oxford are prohibited. If a tutor and a student become romantically involved, the relationship "must be declared to the relevant authority. Once a relationship is disclosed, appropriate steps are taken to reassign academic responsibilities to another staff member." Although Jamie was only a replacement tutor, he still led the class, and Anna was his student.
