The series is aptly written, with each episode building on the last until the surprising and rewarding conclusion. The conversation is intelligent, gripping and dramatic, making the characters more interesting and improving the series as a whole."Murder in Mahim" talks about the gender equality crime against LGBTQ, raising questions over parents and Indian Mentality towards them. It raises the bar for crime dramas and has a profound effect on its audience. Excellent acting, fantastic writing make this series binge-worthy. Highly recommend to everyone must watch this webseries and Enjoy the acting of Vijay Raaj, Ashutosh Rana ( He is just brilliant ).

Web Series Review: Murder in Mahim streaming on Jio Cinema!!
Based on a book by Jerry Pinto who incidentally was my teacher in school 🙂, Murder in Mahim starts off well with the brutal murder of a gay prostitute in a toilet inside Mahim station. As the body count increases, Inspector Jende ( Vijay Raaz ) is forced to forge an alliance with his estranged friend and retired reporter Peter Fernandes ( Ashutosh Rane) to piece together the clues and solve the mystery. Helping Jende in this case is rookie inspector Rabbani ( Shivani Raghuvanshi).
I have mixed feelings about this web series. The casting is spot on with Ashutosh Rana , Vijay Raaz & Shivani Raghuvanshi getting into the skin of their individual characters and performing well overall.
There are two storylines which run in parallel .The first one is the murder mystery which is very engaging. The second one is about challenges faced by the LGBT community in India. This gets a bit peachy & results in the narrative slowing down intermittently and digressing from the main plot . A tighter script coupled with crisp editing would have definitely made a stronger impact and conveyed both storylines more effectively.
To cut the makers some slack , the narrative which slows down somewhere in the middle quickly picks up pace in the last three episodes resulting in a decently showcased climax!!
Even with its shortcomings.. Murder in Mahim is a decent one time watch!! Had the potential to be much better though ... Some points to ponder for the makers if they plan a sequel in future!!
Going with 3/5 for this one .. Adios 🙂!!

'Murder in Mahim' is a gripping investigative drama that promises to engage viewers with its intricate storyline. This series keeps audiences hooked until the final episode, delivering all the elements of a binge-worthy show. Beyond its suspenseful plot, 'Murder in Mahim' offers a commentary on the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community. It sheds light on the discrimination and exclusion they endure, revealing the societal prejudices that brand them as outcasts. Through its narrative, the series captures the struggles and stigma experienced by individuals within the community.
Yet, the show's depth extends beyond its social commentary. It delicately explores the complexities of familial relationships, particularly focusing on the nuanced dynamics between a father and his son. As a retired journalist grapples with his own inner conflicts upon suspecting his son's sexuality, the series navigates the intricacies of acceptance and understanding within the family unit.
Adapted from Jerry Pinto's novel, 'Murder in Mahim' follows the journey of Shivajirao Jende (Vijay Raaz), a principled police officer, as he investigates a series of murders targeting young men from the LGBTQ community in Mumbai's Mahim locality. The common thread linking these crimes is a secluded restroom located at the distant end of Mahim railway station. Assisted by Firdaus Rabbani (Shivani Raghuvanshi), Jende makes headway in the case, only to be thrown off course by a new murder, complicating their progress. Desperate for a breakthrough, Jende seeks help from Peter Fernandes (Ashutosh Rana), a retired crime journalist with a troubled history involving Jende's father, who was ousted from the force due to corruption allegations exposed by Peter's reporting. As Peter grapples with his conflicted feelings about his own son's sexuality, the investigation takes unexpected turns, challenging Jende and his allies to confront their pasts and biases in pursuit of justice.
Despite most episodes spanning 40 minutes, the series maintains an engaging pace. With a brisk narrative and no shortage of thrilling moments, viewers are drawn into an immersive exploration of human nature and societal realities. Packed with revelations and twists, the storyline keeps audiences invested in the characters from start to finish. Particularly compelling is the authentic portrayal of the father-son dynamic between Vijay Raaz and Shivaji Satam's characters, capturing the essence of a middle-class family with depth. Ashutosh Rana's character skilfully embodies the universal conflict faced by fathers when sensing something awry with their sons.
The strength of the series lies in its cast, many of whom embody their characters with sincerity. Led by Vijay Raaz and Ashutosh Rana, the actors fully inhabit their respective roles, with Raaz particularly shining as Shivajirao Jende. Raaz portrays the inner conflicts and struggles of a policeman facing overwhelming odds, delivering a standout performance. Ashutosh Rana's restrained portrayal adds authenticity to his character, enhancing the overall impact. Shivani Raghuvanshi's nuanced performance as Firdaus Rabbani further elevates the series, showcasing her talent once again. Additionally, standout supporting performances, like Rajesh Khattar's portrayal of Leslie Sequeira, contribute to the series' brilliance, with Khattar delivering a fabulous performance in his role.
The series also shines a spotlight on the persistent challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, revealing that despite the repeal of Article 377, meaningful change remains elusive. The portrayal of a dingy toilet at a Mumbai's Mahim local station as a supposed 'safe haven' for these individuals raises more questions than answers about societal acceptance. However, the series is not without its flaws. One such misstep occurs when Peter Fernandes' sudden appearance for an interview with Himali feels out of place and disconnected from reality. Additionally, the plot veers off course by focusing on a knife belonging to a character unrelated to the murders, unnecessarily diverting viewers' attention. Despite these shortcomings, the series excels in its brisk pace, gripping mystery, and exploration of human relationships, making it a gripping watch.

A web series made that does virtue signalling on issues that may not be an issue for a majority of the target population. It would still have been a good watch but the story is loose and execution is subpar.
I was able to sumarize my review of the web series in that first paragraph, but this platform requires the reviews to be at least 600 words so i had to write this part. Maybe the writers of the story/series also had a similar commitment and what you see is the result of them trying to fill up pages to make the story longer. However, that does not explain the impact less dialogues of the series.

Murder in Mahim is a rather pedestrian affair despite noble intentions
(6.5/10)
Jerry Pinto's acclaimed novel deserved rather better treatment than this sluggish eight-part adaptation. Following police officer Shivajirao Jende and retired journalist Peter Fernandes investigating Mumbai's seedy underbelly, the series squanders compelling source material through turgid pacing and unfocused storytelling.
Vijay Raaz delivers typically excellent work as the irascible cop, his lived-in portrayal anchoring proceedings admirably. Ashutosh Rana proves equally compelling as the tormented journalist, whilst their partnership generates the series' few genuinely engaging moments. The supporting cast, particularly Shivani Raghuvanshi, elevates material that frequently disappoints.
The series tackles LGBTQ+ marginalisation and police homophobia with commendable sincerity, focusing on ordinary Mumbai dwellers rather than glossy elite. This exploration of institutional prejudice feels authentic rather than performative, lending the proceedings considerable social weight.
However, good intentions cannot compensate for fundamental structural failures. The writing mistakes languorous pacing for atmospheric tension, resulting in procedural drama that feels soporific rather than suspenseful. Plot threads meander aimlessly whilst character development lacks precision required for effective crime storytelling.
Murder in Mahim succeeds as social commentary but fails as compelling television. Despite strong performances and worthy themes, it remains frustratingly inert... a series that respects its subject matter but forgets to entertain its audience.
A missed opportunity wrapped in noble intentions.

The book was not the best work of Jerry Pinto and the series is a reflection of that. It has great actors like Vijay Raaz and Ashutosh Rana, but there is a limit to how much they can sweat the basic story. Shivaji Satam is completely wasted (a far cry from the powerful CID kind of roles you have seen him in)
While the focus is on Mahim, there isn't much of Mahim in the series. And the script meanders before coming towards the end to tie up the loose ends. LGBTQ is a central part of the theme, but that part is slightly overcooked.
If you find something better to watch, this is a good 8 hours you can save.

"Murder in Mahim" is a series that deeply moved me, bringing me to tears in a way few shows have in recent times. It shines a powerful light on the challenges the LGBTQ+ community faces, from everyday discrimination to societal rejection. The series beautifully illustrates how even a small act of acceptance can start to shift long-held biases, offering hope for a more inclusive world.
For those familiar with Ashutosh Rana and Vijay Raaz in their usual film roles, this series offers an exciting departure. Both actors deliver standout performances, portraying characters with remarkable depth and nuance. One scene in particular, where Vijay Raaz's character transitions from drunken stupor to sheer terror, is masterfully done and exemplifies his incredible range.
Although the series has a few rough patches, especially in the beginning where some performances feel overdone, it quickly finds its footing. Stick with it, and you'll be rewarded with a story that only gets better with each episode.

Anwar Says: Aren't you fade up with the similar stuff of same genre on OTT. Homosexuality, Article 377 and story of LGBTQ community have already flooded and this is a fresh entry. Based on the novel of Jerry Pinto's by the same name and it is a very slow burner. Since the director Rajesh Acharya has to shoot eight episodes, many side stories are simultaneously running. If you are doing binge watch , it would be a laborious watch.
On acting front, both Vijay Raaz and Ashutosh Rana are very much in their character. Acharya Ji tried to put some comic angels at some points, which were unnecessary . The sensitive issue of male sex workers has been raised but the narratives hardly humanise the cause and fails to generate empathy for them. Even the primary theme fades away in the parental conflict, shady twists and explaining other sides of queer community.
Not a very interesting watch on Jiocinema . But , the other releases like Yodha and Undekhi-3 are not worth spending relax time. So if you are not a IPL Fan , can give it a try for the actors.

Not captivating enough. Lacks the ability to hold attention for an extended period. Too many unrelated stories. The predominant focus on arguments supporting LGBTQ perspectives can sometimes lead to a sense of monotony for spectators. While the portrayal reflects their lives authentically, a more diverse range of viewpoints could enhance engagement and sustain interest.

This series is really really boring dull slow and painful for your head...
Its like bad script and screen play for good actors like Vijay raaj and rana..
Its looks like cast are forced on gun point to say the dialogues boring as hell.
Crime thriller should be griping and hold audience to edge of the seat but it's not at all griping poor script poor screenplay.
Unnecessary dialogues unnecessary sence it not at all reach my expectations
I read one review he said after 3 episodes it's become my favourite series just want to say PAGAL HAI KYA ? Don't waste your time watching this you can Sinchan instead of this Web series 😅😅😅😅
