It appears critics don't think Captain America: Brave New Worldwas brave enough with its final product as it approaches its anticipated release. Early critical feedback for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster differs from the encouraging fan response, with many lukewarm reviews raising concerns about the film.
Several outlets shared their summations of Brave New World, the first Captain America entry featuring Anthony Mackie as the eponymous supersoldier. IGN were right down the middle with their review, giving the sequel a 5 out of 10 rating and saying "Captain America: Brave New World feels neither brave nor all that new." IGN also accused Brave New World of "recycling" the plot points and political structure of another Captain America film, The Winter Soldier, though they credited its actors, who "save the day" and preventing it from being a bust. Meanwhile, Empire Magazine gave Brave New World 3 out of 5 stars, claiming it's "a promising...

Even if you’re more into watching film than sports— and let’s be honest, if you’re part of the Film Independent community, then there’s a good chance of that — the best sports films have something for everyone. There’s the irresistible underdog you can’t help rooting for. Determined characters coming together to face insurmountable odds. In a splintered media world, there is only one true vestige of monoculture left: The Super Bowl. The Big Game, which will be played Feb. 9 and televised by Fox, averages over 100 million viewers, a staggering number that dwarfs every other piece of entertainment in a given year.
For big advertisers, a chance to highlight their brand or product in front of that audience is without peer, and they are willing to pay handsomely to do so.
“It’s the only place to be able to aggregate this type of scale quickly, and I think it’s a safe haven,” says Fox Sports executive vp ad sales, Mark Evans.
Fox has secured an eye-popping $8 million for 30-second ad spots during the game, a new record, and brands pour millions more into producing them, and a chance to create their own pop culture moments.
“The stakes are very, very high, and not every brand can win,...
