Avis à la une
No pun intended - this is me trying to connect this to the 90s movie with the same title. But there are not that many connections to be made. I reckon the central part of the story is similar. But there are many differences too. Not sure if that is sufficient to not call this a remake. A reimagination then? Well you decide that.
There is again a lot of nudity and some blood that is shed. Particularly one lesbian scene, that contains both is quite intriguing. But it is also one of the few highlights the movie contains. There is not that much to get you too excited (no pun intended here either). Beautiful people, though I doubt many if any of them will ever become as famous or known as some of the stars of the "original" movie.
There is not much to say here, other than it looks good (visually, and again no pun intended), but lacks some substance. The key romantic love story is missing from the original, but as I said, this tries to spin something new with some of the perimeters it got from the other movie. Not sure if there is a novel they are based on (wouldn't surprise me), so can't make any comparisons if there is. It also seems inclined to use some of the vampire mythology that the other movie did not even look at ... for better or worse.

Charlotte Hawthorn (Sharon Hinnendael) has lived a pretty sheltered life so far. She attended an all-girls Catholic school, is a quiet and reserved personality, and so on. But now she's about to attend a co-ed university on a fencing scholarship. But her past, containing an ancient evil, is all set to haunt her new life.
If that sounds unbelievably clichéd and contrived, it's because it is. Embrace of the Vampire is a remake of 1995 film of the same name. And why they wanted to remake such an average film, I have no idea, but they didn't exactly improve upon the source material, to say the least. The acting is stilted, the pacing either crawls or rushes forwards with lightning speed and the movie just kind of ends in the middle of a fight. Yeah, just as things are starting to come together, in what would normally be the end of the second act, the film decides that you've seen enough and the credits roll. I almost didn't believe my eyes.
It should also be noted that this is supposed to belong to the erotic vampire genre. The only problem being that it doesn't have the guts to do even that correctly. Sure there's some nudity and sexual situations, but barely anything more than you'd see in your typical teen comedy. If the movie would have at least provided us with proper erotica, it could have kind of worked as a B-movie. But no, it plays it safe. Sounds thrilling, doesn't it.
So yeah, this movie will quietly fade into history as an utter failure on pretty much all levels. So long, movie. You shall not be missed.

Simply put: Less T&A and more Stefan. Victor Webster plays a fang-tactic vamp, but I wish he was in the story more. It would've been nice to see him shirtless to make up for the T&A heavy movie.
This remake is not quite as erotic as the original. It's actually borderline softcore porn at times. If I recall the original, there were plenty of dream sequences between Alyssa Milano and Martin Kemp, which helped build anticipation. This film, on the contrary, didn't build that anticipation enough. There was hardly any chemistry between Stefan and Charlotte. Also, Charlotte's constant delusions and/or flashbacks took too much time from the movie.
The scenery, although beautiful, seems heavily influenced by the Twilight films -- rain, dense forests and mountains minus a pack of wolves.
It's a decent effort compared to many recent vampire flicks( Kiss of the Damned might be the best one released in the last decade). Victor Webster made this film enjoyable, but barely.

This is a remake of the 1995 movie starring Alyssa Milano as Charlotte. You expect a remake would be good but this is not the case. Just like the original it was very bad. I have nothing good to write about this movie except the lesbian scene, the rest are all garbage. The female character in this movie is played by Sharon Hinnendael as Charlotte Hawthorn. Her character reminds me of Bella Swan from Twilight, shy and a quite girl. However she can't act and so are the rest of the cast member. Also the story line is so lame I could not bare to watch without pausing every 10 minutes. If you seen the original there's no point of seeing this movie, unless you skip to the " good part ".
Well honestly there is nothing very special in Embrace of the Vampire and it wont make a difference if you skip it....
The movie is not scary or thrilling and the climax is quit predictable as well. If you are expecting a little bit of action then you are in for a disappointment. As far as the acting is concerned, its not bad at all..... Sharon Hinnendael who plays the lead as Charlotte has done a fine job (though sometimes she does try to act like Kristen Stewart in Twilight...lolz), the other cast has done a good job as well, I wont say great but good.... The girls in the movie including Sharon show quite a bit of skin so that keeps it a bit interesting ha ha.
The plot is simple, an Orphan girl goes to a top grade University for higher studies on scholarship, conveniently the university campus is in a beautiful hilly location, where an innocent Vampire just happens to be waiting for her for past 500 years or so...gah...
If you are watching this movie for the story, thrill, suspense or horror element then you will be disappointed. However, if you feel like killing your time or like me you are a fan of vampire movies you might find it watchable.
Overall nothing very special..... but I don't think anyone would get bored while watching it, for me this movie is a 4 out of 10.

- AnecdotesA remake of the 1995 movie which starred Alyssa Milano and Martin Kemp.
- GaffesWhen Charlotte comes into her dorm room after waking up from a bad dream outside, her roommate's room-divider is placed oddly in front of her nightstand. Charlotte runs into the bathroom and when she comes out, the room divider has moved where it should logically be located, from the wall edge on the outside edge of the nightstand.
