First 10 minutes seemed promising

Luis Gerardo Méndez's directorial debut is a good attempt, with a brave execution in addressing certain social issues, but it suffers from poor humor and a terrible script.

The first 10 minutes seemed promising, but then you're plunged into a sea of inconsistencies and technical flaws.

It's appreciated to see a Mexican film that doesn't focus on violence, drug trafficking, corruption, or government issues, and instead tries to address something different. Despite all its structural problems, Mexican cinema is much more than that.

I hope Luis Gerardo Méndez's career as a director brings us more films like the ones we're used to seeing him act in.

Mexican thrash

"Technoboys" is a cinematic disaster that showcases the worst of what modern streaming content can be. The script is an uninspired mess, relying on tired clichés and lazy humor that barely elicits a chuckle. The plot, a rehash of every "washed-up band reunion" trope, lacks originality and depth, making it feel like a half-hearted parody of better films. The performances are equally abysmal; the cast either overacts to a cringe-inducing degree or delivers lines with such flat detachment it's as if they'd already given up on the project.

Direction-wise, the pacing is erratic, jumping between poorly developed subplots that never connect meaningfully. Attempts at commentary on modern culture, such as cancel culture or societal expectations, feel shoehorned and disingenuous, offering no real insight or humor. Even the production design and soundtrack, which should have been the film's saving grace, are bland and forgettable, failing to evoke the nostalgia the film so desperately clings to.

Ultimately, "Technoboys" feels like it was created by an algorithm rather than actual filmmakers, designed to cash in on nostalgia without an ounce of care or creativity. It's emblematic of Netflix's recent trend of prioritizing quantity over quality, churning out hollow content that insults the intelligence of its audience. It's not just bad-it's a slap in the face to anyone hoping for even a shred of originality or effort.

Easy cheap "humor"

Technoboys is a film about Alan, the frontman of a 90s pop boy band who is stuck in the past and wants to recover his good old fame.

The film has nothing interesting, the characters are completely flat, the jokes are cheap and the easy alternative to making actual decent films.

Sad to see a great cast doing nothing, Luis Gerardo Mendez is one of the greatest his generation and part of great artistic wave, unfortunately he's just wasting his time in characters like his previous film "Nosotros los nobles" with silly and dumb personalities. Luis Gerardo, you know you can do better!

Not worth watching.

Solid and entertaining techno boy-band fun!

LOL This was hilarious!

A retrospective, modern approach to the 90's electronic dance/pop music and boy band concept!

This was a solid, funny comedy delivery!

The entire cast - Technoboys, Saborigenes, Melena - is FANTASTIC... - but, what can I say - I'm definitely team Mendez - that dude is SUPER FUNNY XD.

His facial expressions and the way he plays his character just made me burst in laugh XD...Alan kicks ass...!

Karla Souza is awesome as well!

Being a mexican gen-x, and having lived the 90's pop music phenomenon; it was really fun to see everything mixed up so well.

There's everything: the catchy pop single hit, the lead male singer, the lead female singer, the pop-star romance, the boy band, the differences, the attitude, the record label, the fame, the conspiracy, the manager...so many music industry cliches... all in all poured into an original effort, reminding us that music unites people...!

I definitely felt this was mostly aimed to the Mexican public - I think low ratings must be from those alien to Mexico and its urban/pop culture (either modern or vintage)... since language, expressions, lifestyle, places and other aspects displayed in the movie both were and are current in specific sectors in our society...

Anyway - I loved this - well done Netflix!
