Critics point out issues like clichéd characters, poor acting, unoriginal plot, and excessive use of profanity. Some appreciate the mysterious and suspenseful elements reminiscent of 'The X-Files', while others find the show lacking in coherence and realism. The show's potential is often highlighted, with hopes for improvement in future episodes.
Avis à la une
I just watched the pilot of the series and I was very surprised..I had low expectations since I read somewhere that this was an Amazon production and that so far not big channels were interested to show it. But I can say that I enjoyed it a lot..it was really well done made..the story has a lot of mystery,(something you expect from the creator of X-files) and the characters are very interesting. This show has very big potential to be a great mystery/thriller big hit of the year..It reminds you a little bit Walking dead/ Lost/ X- files..I really hope they will get a whole season and see more what is going to happen with the "breakout" ..Well done John Carter.
The first pilot episode took a while to gather any steam, and for the first half hour I thought I was watching a Student Drama Production, with every single character cliché over exaggerated as if the show was just trying "too hard" to prove the contrast between the characters.
It's a bit like the show is constantly screaming 'these people would never be friends in real life, but look, they're banding together regardless!'. It feels frustrating and a bit unnatural. Almost like the script is patronising the viewer, as if we wouldn't be able to decipher subtle details and personalities.
However, it's the pilot, so we'll see how the character development becomes a little more refined and mature.
As for the production quality, it's pretty good and comparable to any regular TV sci-fi series. There's some recognisable faces, enough for familiarity (even if all the known actors are playing the same typecast roles that you've always seen them in).
There was just enough action, mystery and sci-fi to keep me intrigued, though I do hope the level of sci-fi will get upped in future episodes. Right now it feels a little bit too subtle, reminiscent of some of the old X-files episodes that ended up feeling a bit too 'regular'.
The surprise right at the end of the pilot was pretty awesome. It shows promise for where the series could go!
So, great potential in the concept and clearly a well budgeted show. However, stereotypical cliché characters leaves you 'tutting' and finding the dialogue quite patronising.

The new Amazon original pilot for "The after" is out now. I don't know whether the show will get a green signal or not but I certainly hope it does. The X-files creator Chris Carter is the creator of this show. The Pilot is really intriguing..acting department requires polishing. The story has not been revealed much or I should say the Plot hasn't Been revealed much Till the last 15 minutes of the show.Build-up is pretty Good and the "creature" is really creepy.Expect this show to have high Skin quotient, violence, gore and whatever MA is certified for. Give this one a try U will surely enjoy it. Highly recommended for its plot, screenplay and direction.
For months "X-Files" fans have been talking up a storm on the internet about Chris Carter's return to television with a new show called: "The After". Unfortunately he choose to align the TV series with Amazon, who are famous for bad pilot episodes anyone else remember the Zombie Land pilot episode? *Cringes* For those of you who do not know Chris Carter, he was the golden boy of 90′s television after creating The X Files franchise which instantly became a cult classic. He never really delivered another show to equal that of the X Files, he came pretty close with crime drama Millennium. But even that only truly became popular after the series was finished.
"The After" begins right at the very moment the apocalypse hits earth. By apparent manipulated circumstance, a group of eight strangers with the exact same birth dates are thrown together when the power goes out in their building. The group consists of a gay clown, a tough Latina policewoman, a French bombshell, a drunk Irishman, and a rich old white lady. Which really does sound like the start of a very bad joke And being ignorant human beings they are they think that they are the only ones affected by this "power outage" They then try to break out of an underground parkade, only to discover that there is far more wrong with the world than just a simple power outage..
The pilot episode of "The After" is exactly what you would expect from any apocalypse themed drama. Mass chaos everywhere, the police have lost control of the situation obviously. There are people everywhere trying to get out of the city and no one really knows what's going on, including us the viewers which I really loved as they only really revealed some of the key plot elements during the last few minutes of the show. The first episode of the show plays its cards closely too its chest which caused me to scream out in frustration multiple times because I wanted to know what type of apocalypse has befallen our characters and fictional world.
During the course of the episode Chris Carter throws in the suggestion that the supernatural is at play and though some of it feels a bit rushed in the plot episode, the closing scene feels like something strait out of an X Files episode, it's reminiscent of a really great opening for an "X-Files" episode. I really want this show to succeed. Chris Carter has provided some solid entertainment in the past, and X Files had a few really iconic/classic standalone episodes. With good all round performances, and a suggestion that the show is headed in some dark and interesting directions will keep me watching for now. So let's see were this show goes hopefully not the same direction as the Zombie Land pilot.

I have watched the first show and I'm HOOKED! What my question is.......... When is Amazon going to pick up the rest of the season or is there another place I can watch this show. I seen where it said it's starting in February of 2014 on Syfi and I am yet to see it. Can anyone help me out where the rest of the season(s) are at? I have looked on Netflix come back to amazon prime one a week to see if it's bed hooked up and even checked my Syfi channel on direct TV weekly.
Any help I can get from any one I will be very grateful. I love theses types of movies and by the looks of the first movie this one is not going to be a let down. Many thanks to anyone who can answer this question for me in advance!

- AnecdotesNot actually a TV movie, but a pilot made for Amazon that was not picked up to series even though 8 additional episodes were originally ordered but later canceled due to creative differences between the showrunner Chris Carter and the Amazon studio.
- GaffesWhen Gigi goes up to her hotel room, she can't get in. The lock is dead. Hotel door locks are battery operated. Just because the power in the city goes out, that doesn't affect a hotel door lock.
