Sherlock & Daughter

Sherlock Holmes has been done again and again.

Hrs a fictional character penned by Arthur Conan Doyle.

We've had Basil, Jeremy, Benidict, Robert Downey, Johnny Lee etc etc.

Spin offs and so on etc.

Watson is the newest and this followed.

I'm liking this, well cannot get any worse than Watson ( insert laughing emoji here ).

Give it time but I think this will be better than all the rest apart from Elementary. Nothing can beat that exceptional quality of TV series.

Give it a chance but its not elementary or anything close

I mean Conan Doyle gave us a specialist in deduction and yes we need more.

I like Thewlis' actng but the plot is cosplay. There is nothing realistic, true to history or believable in it.

I was looking forward to the series but it's this almost parody like, energetic and boasting but rather empty, almost fastasy-like series with historic decorations.

Not literally fantasy but it fails to even try to be anything resembling seriousness or accuracy which is a pity.

Another one of these series where using some historically accurate depicton would have benefited the show immensely. Some female figures were in fact participatnig in the 19th century detective work scenery in London, yet this is all some Broadway-style musical-level happy-go-lucky light-hearted enterntainment.

Having said that, Thewlis is the only one who actually tried to make the most of it with what he has been given. It's a waste of his talent though.

I was expecting to be mildly amused but I ended up enjoying quite a bit. I used to to dislike Thewlis a while back but I've learned to appreciate some of the characters he's played though his Holmes here is a bit smug and annoying. Of course he's dealing with some loss and personal issues so he gets a pass for now. The daughter which could have been a waste of character is actually charming and interesting. I've seen untold movies and shows featuring Holmes as well as read dozens of novels and this is quite refreshing though somewhat reminiscent of Miss Scarlett and the Duke ( another good show ). This could have had dumb, unfunny jokes but while not overly dramatic it's mercifully not whimsical or campy ( two things I abhor ). Anyway give it a shot and you too might be surprisingly entertained.

Sherlock Holmes is a work of fiction which will always remain popular though right now it is very over used.

So along comes CW, throws in a daughter for the gender diversity, gives her agency and attitude of modern times, and throws in some historical customs and you have this.

This would have worked way better if they had embraced the time period or modernised to modern times instead we have this lite version of all these themes.

The script is pretty dire, and I think the actors would have been ok if they had a decent fun script instead this feels like one of those fictional movie/documentaries and incredibly boring.

Huge disappointment for Holmes fans. There's no real mystery, no suspense, just a flat storyline that never takes off.

The new series Sherlock Holmes & Daughter is a major letdown. The production quality feels cheap, the acting is stiff and uninspired, and the writing lacks any of the clever twists or intrigue fans expect from a Sherlock Holmes story. Even the soundtrack fails to create any tension or mood. The first episode should have drawn viewers in, but instead it left me bored and frustrated. This show had potential, but it squanders every bit of it. A true misfire and sadly, not worth mine time.
