Among the slate of movies and TV shows arriving on HBO Max in July, there are titles in every genre. From blockbusters to subtle indie flicks, the content is set to freshen up the platform next month.

In the superhero genre, Batman is taking center stage in multiple animated titles, from Batman: Year One to Assault on Arkham and more.

Tim Story's 2005 version of Fantastic Four, starring Jessica Alba and Chris Evans, is also arriving on HBO Max. Justice League and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider are also imminently dropping. And then there's Superman, starring the late Christopher Reeve.

Warner Animation’s just-released Batman and Harley Quinn is an interesting project from the standpoint of it being a more mature sequel to the Batman: The Animated Series while still fitting into the now cohesive DC Animated Universe. It has the look and feel of the classic series while the content and themes are vastly different in keeping with Harley’s prominence in all-things DC these days along with upping the stakes in a longer production.

That said, the production is very entertaining and a welcome 30th film in the line of animated projects (the DC Universe: 10th Anniversary Collection is expected in November).

It’s a lot of fun to have Bruce Timm, Harley’s co-creator back in action as a co-scriptwriter. Sam Liu is also back to direct so we have a lot of veteran talent to bring tremendous affection to the project and it shows in every detail.

While Wonder Woman may be putting the DC Entertainment Universe back on track, there is DC content that Warner Bros. and DC have never had a problem with, the animated DC Original Movies. In fact, their movies have been touted as being better than Marvel's, which is no small feat.

As a way of honoring the success of the DC Animated films turning 10, this year, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has created a box set the likes we never could've fathomed.

On November 7, 2017, WB will release the DC Universe Original Movies: 10th Anniversary Collection on Blu-Ray. The collection includes all 30 Animated movies, 5 shorts, new special features, and exclusive collectible items. The Digital version will release much earlier on August 15, 2017.

While I feel like Batman v Superman tends to get a lot of undue hate, Suicide Squad is a film where I can understand the hate. Sure, I enjoyed it quite a bit while watching, but it was still a big mess of a movie. On one hand you had a stupid character in Amanda Waller, and a nonsensical plan, and on the other, you have one of the weakest villains known to mankind in Enchantress.

It seemed like a waste to have Enchantress being the villain when you had one perfectly good Joker already crowding the plot of the flick. Even worse than the fact that he wasn’t the main villain is that he was woefully underutilized even as a side character. If we’re to believe what Jared Leto had to say, they seemed to have left a lot of his scenes on the cutting room floor.

Before there was the DC Extended Universe in live-action cinema, there was the DC Animated Universe – a notable multimedia collection of animated tales based on DC Comics properties. It was the DC Animated Universe that gave birth to the now iconic, fan favourite character, Harley Quinn – who was introduced in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992. Since 2014, DC has been releasing original animated movies that have grown in profile but, now that Harley Quinn is set for a co-lead role in the upcoming Batman And Harley Quinn, newly released casting details may be surprising to some fans.

There’s no director confirmed just yet, but Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Bruce Timm is on board as executive producer. Suicide Squad proved to be quite divisive when it landed in theaters back in August, though the general consensus ultimately seemed to be one of disappointment. Being the second DC film to arrive in 2016 to have been met with mixed feelings by moviegoers, Suicide Squad arguably has the advantage over Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in that it was leggier at the box office and seemingly caught on more when it came to merchandising, along with inspiring legions of cosplayers.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot to like about this movie, but there’s also quite a bit that I found to be less than satisfactory. Since the big-screen Dceu has been taking up all of the news lately, it’s completely understandable if you missed out on the fact that they’ve also been churning out quality animated films for years. One in particular, Batman: Assault On Arkham, deserves some attention because of how closely it relates to the upcoming Suicide Squad film.

This surprisingly-adult animated film is set in the Arkham universe from the video games, and follows the newly-assembled Suicide Squad as they’re tasked by Amanda Waller to break into Arkham Asylum and retrieve something for her. In exchange, their sentences will be reduced and she won’t have them killed. If that sounds familiar, it’s because it’s more or less the plot of the upcoming film.

Margot Robbie hasn't really shared that much information about her role as Harley Quinn in "Suicide Squad." She's been doing a rather god job at being hush-hush about the role, the film, and everything else. So it's a bit of a surprise that she was interviewed by Cineplex about the film, her character, and how she feels about playing the part of a psychotic criminal.

This time around, they both play murderers, so that had to be a rather interesting topic of discussion amongst the two of them.

By all accounts, Suicide Squad is set to be one of the more unusual cinematic offerings -- not just for DC Comics, but the superhero movie genre as a whole. However, as many who have watched the trailer and read the various reports surrounding the production have deduced, the 2016 blockbuster shares a lot of similarities with a previous Batman movie. No, not a live action one, but one from the world of animation. I.m talking Batman: Assault on Arkham, the 2014 DC Universe Animated Original Movie that existed in the same universe as the Arkham video games. And by all accounts, it should be the most deranged depiction of this iconic super villain, trumping everything that has come before it. Earlier this week, we reported that Warner Bros.' highly-anticipated comic book adaptation Suicide Squad has wrapped production, with stars Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Jai Courtney (Boomerang) stopping by a young girl's lemonade stand to help a worthy cause, on the way to their wrap party. David Ayer’s Suicide Squad adaptation has gained two new cast members in the form of Fury and The Longest Ride actor Scott Eastwood, and bodyguard-turned-boxer-turned-actor Ray Olubowale, known best as the Axe Man in the Resident Evil franchise. Who they are playing remains a mystery, but that hasn’t stopped the internet hype machine from jumping into full-on speculation mode.

Eastwood – the son of iconic actor/director Clint Eastwood – was first spotted in Toronto alongside Suicide Squad member Cara Delevingne and confirmed his involvement in an interview with Canadian news outlet eTalk. Some have already begun to speculate that Eastwood has landed a major role in the film, but frankly, there just aren’t many of those to go around at this point. It’s more likely that he’s landed a smaller supporting role, perhaps as a military figure or inmate from either Arkham Asylum or Belle Reeve prison.

Following the trailer for Batman Vs. Robin, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have released the cover art for the animated film along with some additional details. The reaction from fans regarding this movie have been mixed, especially since a lot of people didn't seem very happy with the last movie, Son of Batman. I think it will offer some fun entertainment regardless.

After being first announced at Comic-Con 2014, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has revealed the voice cast for the next animated DC Universe Original Animated Movie, Batman Vs. Robin. In 2016, Warner Bros. is releasing two DC movies. First up is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, whose titular characters everyone has heard of. Just minutes ago, Warner Bros. announced the main cast members for Suicide Squad. However, there is still one major role still left to be cast, the squad's leader and the villain of the movie, Amanda Waller. Variety reports that Oprah Winfrey is the studio's top choice for the role, with other contenders including Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer.

In the comic books, Amanda Waller was a government agent who oversees the Task Force X (Suicide Squad) program, which assigns practically impossible missions to this group of dangerous villains. Amanda Waller was previously portrayed on the big screen by Angela Bassett in Warner Bros.' 2011 adventure Green Lantern, and she was also played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson on the small screen in Season 2 of Arrow. The character has also been featured in a number of animated projects, with Cch Pounder most recently voicing Amanda Waller in this summer's Batman: Assault on Arkham.

Batman: Assault on Arkham, the latest effort from DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. As with all rumor and speculation surrounding Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, I must warn you to take this story with a grain of salt. It could either be completely legitimate and thereby introduce a relatively unknown supervillain into the DC Cinematic Universe, or it could be some J.J. Abrams-level misdirection on the part of director Zack Snyder as a way to mess with fans.

Warner Bros Animation has released the first Justice League: Throne of Atlantis trailer.

The Aquaman-centric feature sees Arthur Curry raised to the position of king of Atlantis and hero of Earth (via Newsarama).

With hostilities growing between the underwater kingdom and the surface, a group of rebels seize control and declare war on the Justice League and mankind.

Only a person whose heritage is of both worlds can hope to stop the invasion.

Sam Witwer (Orm/Ocean Master), Chris Gorham (The Flash), Jason O'Mara (Batman), Shemar Moore (Cyborg), Rosario Dawson (Wonder Woman), Jerry O'Connell (Superman), Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern) and Sean Astin (Shazam) are among the voice cast.

Ethan Spaulding (Son of Batman, Batman: Assault on Arkham) directed the animation.

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in Spring 2015.

Last month, Warner Bros. set nine release dates for upcoming DC Comics movies, although none of the titles were announced. Variety reports that one of those projects is Suicide Squad, with the studio eyeing David Ayer (End of Watch; Fury) to direct.

It isn't known where the studio and director are at in the dealmaking process, but sources reveal that Warner Bros. believes David Ayer is a good fit for the project, which is described as being "dark and edgy." The original DC comic book centered on a number of supervillains who are given a chance to redeem themselves by taking on a suicide mission that may kill them all.

There have been several incarnations of the Suicide Squad in DC Comics, with villains including Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Bronze Tiger and many more, but it is unclear which characters will be used in the film. The Variety report also reveals...

DC/WB have been steadily releasing animated movies for some time now, and the latest is somewhat of a departure from their normal focus on adapting established stories from the comics. “Batman: Assault on Arkham” is the 20th release but is the first to be based on a video game, and if we could get more tie-ins like this, the Arkham series would be an even bigger media juggernaut than it already is. If you’re a fan of the character, the games are absolutely amazing! I don’t usually give that high a praise for video games based on comics because they usually fall short, but even the worst Arkham game is still good. If you crossed the Nolan films with the comic universe you’d have the Arkham game world. They are gritty, realistic, and wholly centered on Batman lore and history without trying to compromise for full-on reality.

The movie opened 25 years ago in June and July was Batman Day but Warner Home Entertainment decided to wait until the holiday buying season to release a celebratory new edition of Tim Burton’s vision of the Dark Knight.
