Warner Animation’s just-released Batman and Harley Quinn is an interesting project from the standpoint of it being a more mature sequel to the Batman: The Animated Series while still fitting into the now cohesive DC Animated Universe. It has the look and feel of the classic series while the content and themes are vastly different in keeping with Harley’s prominence in all-things DC these days along with upping the stakes in a longer production.
That said, the production is very entertaining and a welcome 30th film in the line of animated projects (the DC Universe: 10th Anniversary Collection is expected in November).
It’s a lot of fun to have Bruce Timm, Harley’s co-creator back in action as a co-scriptwriter. Sam Liu is also back to direct so we have a lot of veteran talent to bring tremendous affection to the project and it shows in every detail.

While I feel like Batman v Superman tends to get a lot of undue hate, Suicide Squad is a film where I can understand the hate. Sure, I enjoyed it quite a bit while watching, but it was still a big mess of a movie. On one hand you had a stupid character in Amanda Waller, and a nonsensical plan, and on the other, you have one of the weakest villains known to mankind in Enchantress.
It seemed like a waste to have Enchantress being the villain when you had one perfectly good Joker already crowding the plot of the flick. Even worse than the fact that he wasn’t the main villain is that he was woefully underutilized even as a side character. If we’re to believe what Jared Leto had to say, they seemed to have left a lot of his scenes on the cutting room floor.

Before there was the DC Extended Universe in live-action cinema, there was the DC Animated Universe – a notable multimedia collection of animated tales based on DC Comics properties. It was the DC Animated Universe that gave birth to the now iconic, fan favourite character, Harley Quinn – who was introduced in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992. Since 2014, DC has been releasing original animated movies that have grown in profile but, now that Harley Quinn is set for a co-lead role in the upcoming Batman And Harley Quinn, newly released casting details may be surprising to some fans.
There’s no director confirmed just yet, but Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Bruce Timm is on board as executive producer. This being the case, the most striking thing to note about Batman And Harley Quinn is the fact that the style seen in early images from the film is clearly reminiscent of that...

Suicide Squad proved to be quite divisive when it landed in theaters back in August, though the general consensus ultimately seemed to be one of disappointment. Make no mistake about it, Task Force X absolutely crushed it at the box office, bringing in almost $750 million worldwide, but for fans and critics, the group’s debut outing was a wholly mediocre one.
That doesn’t mean it’s the last we’ve seen of Deadshot, Harley Quinn and the gang though. Far from it, in fact. We already know that Warner Bros. is eyeing a Suicide Squad 2 and of course, a spinoff featuring Harley has already been greenlit. It’ll arrive in the form of Gotham City Sirens and may also feature Batman characters such as Catwoman and Poison Ivy. It seems that the studio has...

Being the second DC film to arrive in 2016 to have been met with mixed feelings by moviegoers, Suicide Squad arguably has the advantage over Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in that it was leggier at the box office and seemingly caught on more when it came to merchandising, along with inspiring legions of cosplayers.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot to like about this movie, but there’s also quite a bit that I found to be less than satisfactory. Director David Ayer brought an expected sense of gritty realism to the film along with a certain gravitas needed when bringing so many iconic supervillains to life, many of which are appearing on the big screen for the very first time. He obviously had a clear vision for the adaptation, but it was quite obvious that the studio had other ideas after BvS didn’t exactly...

Since the big-screen Dceu has been taking up all of the news lately, it’s completely understandable if you missed out on the fact that they’ve also been churning out quality animated films for years. One in particular, Batman: Assault On Arkham, deserves some attention because of how closely it relates to the upcoming Suicide Squad film.
This surprisingly-adult animated film is set in the Arkham universe from the video games, and follows the newly-assembled Suicide Squad as they’re tasked by Amanda Waller to break into Arkham Asylum and retrieve something for her. In exchange, their sentences will be reduced and she won’t have them killed. If that sounds familiar, it’s because it’s more or less the plot of the upcoming film.

Margot Robbie hasn't really shared that much information about her role as Harley Quinn in "Suicide Squad." She's been doing a rather god job at being hush-hush about the role, the film, and everything else. So it's a bit of a surprise that she was interviewed by Cineplex about the film, her character, and how she feels about playing the part of a psychotic criminal.
“Harley is creepy, violent, crazy ... all of the things that I aspire to be! No. It’s the fun of living vicariously through someone who is doing things that I would never do in real life.”
The next thing she talked about was her fellow co-star Will Smith, who she just finished starring in a film with in the form of "Focus," where they both played con-artists. This time around, they both play murderers, so that had to be a rather interesting topic of discussion amongst the two of them.

By all accounts, Suicide Squad is set to be one of the more unusual cinematic offerings -- not just for DC Comics, but the superhero movie genre as a whole. However, as many who have watched the trailer and read the various reports surrounding the production have deduced, the 2016 blockbuster shares a lot of similarities with a previous Batman movie. No, not a live action one, but one from the world of animation. I.m talking Batman: Assault on Arkham, the 2014 DC Universe Animated Original Movie that existed in the same universe as the Arkham video games. For those who are unfamiliar with it, Batman: Assault on Arkham followed the Suicide Squad as they were sent by Amanda Waller to break into Arkham Asylum to kill The Riddler and destroy a thumb drive with information on the team that he planned to make public. However, their goal changes when they...

Jared Leto went full-on method in his performance as The Joker for next year's Suicide Squad. And by all accounts, it should be the most deranged depiction of this iconic super villain, trumping everything that has come before it. Jared Leto isn't afraid to taut his work before fans and critics have gotten a proper taste. It's a performance he took quite seriously. Making an appearance at Dubai Music Week, he teased that his Joker will have people worried for his sanity.
All throughout the Suicide Squad production, co-stars said that Jared Leto had gone off the rails. He so completely disappeared into his Joker persona, that everyone claims to have never met the real Jared Leto on set. He stayed in character for the entirety of the shoot. David Ayer’s Suicide Squad adaptation has gained two new cast members in the form of Fury and The Longest Ride actor Scott Eastwood, and bodyguard-turned-boxer-turned-actor Ray Olubowale, known best as the Axe Man in the Resident Evil franchise. Who they are playing remains a mystery, but that hasn’t stopped the internet hype machine from jumping into full-on speculation mode.
Eastwood – the son of iconic actor/director Clint Eastwood – was first spotted in Toronto alongside Suicide Squad member Cara Delevingne and confirmed his involvement in an interview with Canadian news outlet eTalk. Some have already begun to speculate that Eastwood has landed a major role in the film, but frankly, there just aren’t many of those to go around at this point. It’s more likely that he’s landed a smaller supporting role, perhaps as a military figure or inmate from either Arkham Asylum or Belle Reeve prison.

Following the trailer for Batman Vs. Robin, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have released the cover art for the animated film along with some additional details. The reaction from fans regarding this movie have been mixed, especially since a lot of people didn't seem very happy with the last movie, Son of Batman. I think it will offer some fun entertainment regardless.
The movie is being directed by Jay Oliva (Batman: Assault on Arkham) from a script written by J.M. DeMatteis. Here's a new synopsis for the film that offers some additional story details:
The shadows of Gotham City are no place for a child but Damian Wayne is no ordinary child. Now bearing the mantle of Robin, he blazes a headstrong and sometimes reckless trail alongside his father, Batman. After being first announced at Comic-Con 2014, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has revealed the voice cast for the next animated DC Universe Original Animated Movie, Batman Vs. Robin. The project is a follow-up to last year's Son of Batman, with voice actors Jason O'Mara (Batman), Stuart Allan (Damian Wayne/Robin), Sean Maher (Nightwing) and David McCallum (Alfred) reprising their roles from that animated adventure. The story will be based on the Batman: The Court of Owls comic, written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Greg Capullo.
New voice cast members include Jeremy Sisto as Talon, the Court of Owls' nearly invincible assassin, 'Weird Al' Yankovic as The Dollmaker, a popular DC Comics villain who is the son of a serial killer, Grey Griffin as Samantha, Robin Atkin Downes as The Grandmaster and Peter Onorati as Draco. If Viola Davis is going to be the Samuel L. Jackson of the DC movie universe, I am perfectly fine with that. If you're not terribly familiar with Amanda Waller, the character she is in final negotiations to play in a number of different DC movies, let me recommend a recent DC animated film to you as a sort of crash course in both Waller and the Suicide Squad. "Batman: Assault on Arkham" will give you a pretty decent idea of what you can expect when David Ayer's "Suicide Squad" hits theaters in August of 2016. Cch Pounder plays the role in that film, and she also played that part on the "Justice League" animated series. On "Smallville," it was Pam Grier who played the part. Waller also appeared in a very brief couple of scenes in the live-action "Green Lantern," where Angela Bassett played the part. I love Viola Davis,...

In 2016, Warner Bros. is releasing two DC movies. First up is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, whose titular characters everyone has heard of. Later that year, though, audience goers will be treated to a different kind of comic book film. Suicide Squad, set for release on August 5, 2016, will follow a group of supervillains that are coerced into going on dangerous missions. That.s right: it won.t be a superhero headlining this film . it.s a group of bad guys! The Suicide Squad has been an important presence in the DC Universe since writer John Ostrander revitalized the group in the 1980s, and now they.re getting a chance to shine in the DC Cinematic Universe. The Suicide Squad has appeared in a variety of media, such as Justice League Unlimited, Batman: Assault on Arkham and Arrow, but this will be their first theatrical appearance. Here.s our handy...

Just minutes ago, Warner Bros. announced the main cast members for Suicide Squad. However, there is still one major role still left to be cast, the squad's leader and the villain of the movie, Amanda Waller. Variety reports that Oprah Winfrey is the studio's top choice for the role, with other contenders including Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer.
In the comic books, Amanda Waller was a government agent who oversees the Task Force X (Suicide Squad) program, which assigns practically impossible missions to this group of dangerous villains. Amanda Waller was previously portrayed on the big screen by Angela Bassett in Warner Bros.' 2011 adventure Green Lantern, and she was also played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson on the small screen in Season 2 of Arrow. The character has also been featured in a number of animated projects, with Cch Pounder most recently voicing Amanda Waller in this summer's Batman: Assault on Arkham.

Batman: Assault on Arkham, the latest effort from DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation, casts Batman aside (for the most part) in order to focus on Amanda Waller's Suicide Squad. The anti-hero team has gotten quite a bit of press lately for its planned live-action adaptation, so now's a great time to take a look at one of the Suicide Squad's animated iterations, now available on Blu-ray. While Batman: Assault on Arkham takes the opportunity to cast Batman villains in lead roles, it doesn't come close to exploring all the potential those characters offer. The voice acting is spot on as usual and the animation style is a visual joy, but the half-baked plot and immature on-screen antics makes this a weak adaptation rather than a must-have addition to your collection. Hit the jump for our Batman: Assault on Arkham Blu-ray review. Feature: The Good Any time the villains get to take center stage,...

As with all rumor and speculation surrounding Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, I must warn you to take this story with a grain of salt. It could either be completely legitimate and thereby introduce a relatively unknown supervillain into the DC Cinematic Universe, or it could be some J.J. Abrams-level misdirection on the part of director Zack Snyder as a way to mess with fans.
Now, with that said, a rumor has surfaced online that supervillain and Suicide Squad member KGBeast will appear in Batman V Superman in some capacity. Filming is currently underway in Chicago, which has led to the usual influx of set reports and leaked photos. The latest comes from Filming In Chicago, a Twitter account dedicated to reporting and posting various news updates and photos from the Batman V Superman set. Yesterday, Warner Bros. announced their full slate of movies based off DC Comics characters, and there were a few surprise tucked away in there, especially the David Ayer directed Suicide Squad, set for release August 5th 2016. For those scratching their heads, the Suicide Squad, first appearing in 1959, is a government funded team made up of a revolving door team of DC's toughest villains taking on highly dangerous, black ops missions in return for commuted prison sentences. In recent years, the team has been breaking out of comics into other mediums, most notably in t.v. show Arrow, and animated movie Batman: Assault on Arkham. Now with the big screen beckoning, it's clear Warner Bros. have big plans for this anti-hero team, and they have been courting some big names, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing Ryan Gosling, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, and Will Smith have been approached about the taking a...

Last month, Warner Bros. set nine release dates for upcoming DC Comics movies, although none of the titles were announced. Variety reports that one of those projects is Suicide Squad, with the studio eyeing David Ayer (End of Watch; Fury) to direct.
It isn't known where the studio and director are at in the dealmaking process, but sources reveal that Warner Bros. believes David Ayer is a good fit for the project, which is described as being "dark and edgy." The original DC comic book centered on a number of supervillains who are given a chance to redeem themselves by taking on a suicide mission that may kill them all.
There have been several incarnations of the Suicide Squad in DC Comics, with villains including Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Bronze Tiger and many more, but it is unclear which characters will be used in the film. The Variety report also reveals...

DC/WB have been steadily releasing animated movies for some time now, and the latest is somewhat of a departure from their normal focus on adapting established stories from the comics. “Batman: Assault on Arkham” is the 20th release but is the first to be based on a video game, and if we could get more tie-ins like this, the Arkham series would be an even bigger media juggernaut than it already is. If you’re a fan of the character, the games are absolutely amazing! I don’t usually give that high a praise for video games based on comics because they usually fall short, but even the worst Arkham game is still good. If you crossed the Nolan films with the comic universe you’d have the Arkham game world. They are gritty, realistic, and wholly centered on Batman lore and history without trying to compromise for full-on reality.
