I'm a fast reader but reading the subtitles on this was actual work. Are you trying to alienate viewers solely for vanity purposes? It honestly makes no sense. Also, why are 75% of your subtitles superimposed over ALL WHITE backdrops? Does NO ONE not see this? Oh. Right. Nevermind.
WATCH FOREIGN FILMS!!!!!!
YELLOW SUBTITLES!!!!!!
Why are we still having this conversation???
I still don't know what this documentary is about because some coked out producer was having a heyday speed cutting between shots that were all actual exposition completely lost by backgrounds muddled in white background.

Great cinematography and not an easy task bringing a New Yorker article to life -/ thank god for the subtitles and good contextualizing of the subject to help us along the way with the interviewees who do a phenomenal job, not to mention the massive edit undertaking this required... cheers to the Showrunner and his crew for tackling what would otherwise be an impossible adaptation. This is meta meta storytelling and not an obvious choice for television so to make it come alive is a real feat ...
Félicitations !! Bravo to exposing all the liars and plagiarizers out there ... the internet sleuth team deserve an Emmy along with the crew...
I've already watched the first episode on Hulu, which had subtitles for everything, so they got me into the story. Now I'm watching the second episode and the majority of the interviews are in French yet there are no English subtitles. I'm interested in the story but more than half of what is being said can only be understood if you speak French. Even when you turn all subtitles on only the English speaking parts are subtitled. What is up with that?! As I sit here starting the third episode I'm extremely hopeful that the subtitles will return as I feel that I missed a huge amount of information already.
Even as the victim of the 'not raped enough' horrifying RAPE, sits and tell us what a 'betrayal' and the 'disappointment' of the subjects using her accounts and relationship, to create a graphic novel of the moment of her abduction - and how hard it is for her to relive it and the dismay at having that be made public - AND IN THE SAME SCENE, THE SAME BREATH, THIS POS DOCUMENTARY SHOWS SAID GRAPHIC NOVEL PAGES AND RECOUNTS PRECISELY WHAT SHE'S LAMENTING and it's absolutely repugnant that, and of all people, the New Yorker's handywork is to further COMPOUND this victems anguish
AND FOR WHAT!?
To sell content to people like us, the entire time, regarding the reasons true crime exists and the very subject of The documentary and his motivations WHILE ALL ALONG this becomes some self fulfilling clusterpuck of a vicious circular catch 22
Its madness and we're all complicit in it - ALL OF US -
Let's do better, let's BE better
(for the record I gave it a 3 because how could I begrudge the 4th eye people after all of that hard and 'good' work)

Episode 1: great storytelling. I was definitely hooked. Interesting characters and a genuinely intriguing story. It is subtitled, since the cast all speak French, except Lauren Collins, who is the writer. Sadly, that is where it ends.
Episode 2: What happened to the subtitles? 99% of the dialogue is french, and the viewer has zero idea what is happening.
Episode 3: I honestly have nothing to say since I threw in the towel about halfway through Episode 2.
Overrall: what is probably a super interesting story gets lost on translation, rather lack there of. Who are the QA people that let this slip through?
