It’s been less than a decade since Netflix first became available in Thailand and only six years since it made its Thai-based production debut with the drama series “The Stranded” but, as it revealed in its first-ever Impact Report on Wednesday, the streamer is clearly just getting started in the country.
The report, “Netflix in Thailand: Supporting the Future of Local Storytelling,” was unveiled at a press event at the 515 Victory event space in Bangkok with Thai government officials, filmmakers, press members and Netflix executives in attendance.
Netflix invested $200 million in Thai-based productions, which resulted in 20 films and series and employed 13,500 cast and crew across all levels of the creative industry between 2021 and 2024, according to the report, which also pointed out that the streamer has regularly licensed existing Thai titles that have also been a part of the programming slate.
Its 2025 slate consists of nine local originals, including six films and three series.

Adapted from Netflix’s first ever Thai TV series called “Bangkok Breaking”, the film adaptation is an action-packed, explosive-laden romp that will leave many viewers out of breath. Just a shame that the confusing story and every repeated attempt at drama and emotionality fail to keep up.

Struggling aftermath, Wanchai turns to food delivery to make ends meet. But one routine delivery pulls him directly into danger. While witnessing a kidnapping, Wanchai bears unwitting witness to a crime carried out by local gang members Sin and Bank.
With little choice, Wanchai becomes embroiled in a high-stakes chase when the criminals hold him and inexperienced nurse Meiji hostage in an ambulance. It seems pretty clear these days that governments around the world often exploit the poor by uprooting them from their homes to build flashy high-rise buildings or even temples, all in the name of “progress” and they do not even consider the situation of the helpless people they displace or show any real concern for their well-being. In the movie Bangkok Breaking: Heaven and Hell, directed by Kome Kongkiat Komesiri, this exact situation takes place, in a small housing village in Thailand, the government signs a deal with a construction company called Idea Tech, led by CEO Mr. Wichai to build a world-class community complex, but to do that, they plan to kick out the people who’ve been living there for ages. Obviously, this created a lot of chaos among the locals, and the villagers started to protest. They had a feud with the police sent by the government,...

Netflix’s new Thai crime thriller film, Bangkok Breaking: Heaven and Hell, presents a very different take on the capital city of the Land of Smiles than we are used to seeing in popular culture or in reality. The Bangkok shown in the film is all about crime and corruption, with a controversial housing community called Ruamjai at the center of all the fiascos. When a paramedic, Wanchai, is fired and starts a new job as a food delivery rider, he unknowingly steps into a big mess involving the kidnapping of the young girl. Overall, Heaven and Hell can be an entertaining watch for those who enjoy films from Southeast Asia and does not require any prior knowledge about the Bangkok Breaking series, despite having been made by the same director and featuring the same lead actor.

‘Bangkok Breaking: Heaven And Hell’ Netflix Review: Thai Action Film Simply Doesn’t Know When To End
There have been quite a few action movies this year where the cityscape, or at least a part of a city, was turned into a battlefield to comment on classism, corruption, and how justice has become a distant reality. For starters, there was City Hunter, which used vigilante justice to wage war against the seedy connections between the police, the beauty industry, and the defense forces. With Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and Bad Boys: Ride or Die, the cities featured in the films show how anti-immigration sentiments are used to mask criminal misconduct. The Roundup: Punishment, Monkey Man, and Rebel Ridge, to a certain extent, used its surroundings to give us an education on righteous violence. Twilight of Warriors served as an homage to Hong Kong action films while talking about the violent gentrification of slums. Bangkok Breaking: Heaven and Hell falls squarely in this category. Is it any good though?...
