Even the most disturbing movies ever made are operating with a thematic heft that far exceeds mere exploitation. A movie is just a movie, after all, so to accomplish that necessary suspension of disbelief and really get an audience feeling all icky and disturbed, a filmmaker’s got to bring their A-game.

The scene in question here appears early in the film, where Batman rescues a subway user from a gang of goons with face paint. This has Batman declaring that he is ‘vengeance’ before he proceeds to beat them up. However, this scene, while looking like a rescue, actually has Batman indulging in his coping mechanism.

Exclusive: Ace Entertainment has optioned TV rights to New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Young’s In Nightfall, a young adult horror novel that was sought after by a number of production companies, sources tell Deadline.

One of the most memorable faces on daytime TV has died.

Elizabeth Hubbard, best known for her work on As the World Turns, passed away over the weekend.

She was 89.

Hubbard's son Jeremy Bennett shared the sad news via Facebook.

"I'm sorry to say with a broken heart my mom passed over the weekend," he wrote.

"Thank you for being an unmovable rock that guided me through life."

"I will try to honor your memory as long as I live."

Hubbard was a daytime TV staple, scoring 11 Daytime Emmy nominations throughout her impressive career.

Most of those nominations stemmed from her work on As the World Turns in the role of Lucinda Walsh.

The actress appeared in the show from 1984 until 2010.

She also worked on the NBC soap The Doctors as Dr. Althea Davis.

It won’t take long for 2021 to get a bonkers new television series thanks to the debut of “History of Swear Words” on Netflix at the start of the new year. The six-episode series hosted by Nicolas Cage tells the origin stories of some of the most widely used curse words around the world, from “fuck” and “shit” to “bitch,” “dick,” “pussy,” and “damn.” Produced by Funny or Die, “History of Swear Words” looks like a riff on Comedy Central’s dearly departed “Drunk History” with an added dose of Cage insanity.

Nicolas Cage continues to have one of the least predictable careers in Hollywood as he now moves to Netflix to host a new comedy series in which he will be exploring the origins of some of the most used curse words in the English language, from f*ck and sh*t to p*ssy and d*ck. The passing of famed British actor Ian Holm has been mourned throughout the film world, but especially by “Lord of the Rings” fans who enjoyed his performance as Bilbo Baggins. In a Facebook post honoring his life, “Lotr” director Peter Jackson reflected on his memories of working with Holm on both “The Fellowship of the Ring” and his final film performance in “The Hobbit.”

“Ian was such a delightful, generous man. Quiet, but cheeky, with a lovely twinkle in his eye,” Jackson wrote. “Back in early 2000, before we started shooting our Bilbo scenes for ‘The Fellowship of the Ring,’ I was nervous about working with such an esteemed actor, but he immediately put me at ease.”

Ian Holm, the classically trained Shakespearean actor best known to film audiences for his performances in films including the “Lord of the Rings” and “Hobbit” movies, “Chariots of Fire” and “Alien,” has died. He was 88.

A rep for the actor has said Holm died in hospital on Friday morning. The actor had been battling Parkinson’s Disease for a number of years. However, as recently as January, Holm appeared in person to collect the Newport Beach Film Festival’s Icon Award in London.

Holm, who was celebrated for interpretations of most of the Shakespeare canon, including a towering “King Lear,” also excelled onstage in the original production of Harold Pinter’s “The Homecoming,” which he also brought to Broadway. He began working in films only midway through his career, debuting with an adaptation of his stage performance in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in 1968.

The crime thriller had its second season announced back in 2017, and since then had been lying dormant, until executive producer David Fincher, a veteran director of films such as “Zodiac,” “Se7en” and “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” appeared on Kcrw’s ‘The Treatment’ podcast and revealed the release date of the latest season.

Netflix’s interactive press site has released the first-look images for Season 2 of “Mindhunter,” which will focus on the Atlanta Child Murders.

The series, from David Fincher, covers the early days of the FBI’s criminal psychology and criminal profiling division, delving into the minds of murderers to see what makes them tick. Fincher will executive produce and direct.

Premiering Aug. 16, Fincher recently revealed the focus of Season 2 will be on the series of killings between 1979 and 1981 that targeted African-American children, teenagers and adults in Atlanta, Georgia. Wayne Williams, who is currently serving a life sentence of the deaths of two Atlanta men in 1981, will play a central role in the season. Police believe he’s responsible for 23 of those murders. He maintains his innocence.

Netflix has not forgotten about Mindhunter after all.

Mindhunter executive producer/director David Fincher announced during an appearance on The Treatment‘s Elvis Mitchell podcast, that Season 2 will premiere on Friday, August 16.

What's more, the second season will span eight episodes, two fewer than the freshman run.

The freshman run aired on Netflix back in October 2017, so fans have been on tenterhooks eagerly awaiting a premiere date for the new run for quite some time.

The best part of this news? August 16 is not that far away, so there's that.

Netflix’s Mindhunter is set to return for its second season on August 16 – nearly two years since the launch of the crime drama.

The series, which stars Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany, initially launched in October 2017 and was quickly renewed for a second season a month after its debut.

The second season is thought to pick up between 1979 and 1981, a couple of years after season one and is expected to focus on the Atlanta child murders, where at least 28 people were thought to have been murdered in a short period of time.

The release date was first revealed by executive producer David Fincher on Kcrw’s podcast The Treatment before being confirmed by Netflix. Fincher exec produces alongside Charlize Theron, Joshua Donen and Cean Chaffin. It was created by Joe Penhall.

Charlize Theron teased in May that the long-in-the-works second season of “Mindhunter” would debut on Netflix in August, and now co-executive producer David Fincher has revealed the date: August 16. The “Gone Girl” director announced the premiere date during an interview with Elvis Mitchell on Kcrw’s “The Treatment” podcast. Fincher also cleared up speculation and confirmed the Atlanta Child Murders, Charles Manson, and Son of Sam are all integral to new episodes. The filmmaker also verified the involvement of “The Assassination of Jesse James” director Andrew Dominik.

“I got a call from Andrew Dominik who had seen the first season and said, ‘I’d really like to do something with Season 2,'” Fincher said. “We brought him in. When God gives you a really great idea, take it. When we first sat down he said, ‘What is it about this world that seems so American? There is something going on here.

After a long career that’s included writing for the La Weekly, The Detroit Free Press, and The New York Times, Mitchell is currently the host of the Kcrw radio show “The Treatment,” but the new Epix series “Elvis Goes There” gave him the opportunity to do something on a whole new level.
