Maa is a heart-touching film that reminds us of the pure love and sacrifices a mother makes without expecting anything in return. The story is simple, but the emotions it carries are very deep. Kajol gives one of her most honest and moving performances. She doesn't just play a mother - she makes us feel every bit of her pain, strength, and love.
Throughout the film, you can see the silent battles a mother fights every day, and Kajol brings all of that to life with her expressions and body language. She makes the audience connect with her character instantly. The way she protects, supports, and never gives up on her child is something many of us can relate to.
The concept of the movie is powerful because it shows that a mother's love doesn't need big words - it shows through her actions. This film is not about drama; it's about truth. And Kajol makes that truth beautiful and unforgettable. Maa is a gentle reminder of why mothers are truly heroes in our lives.

Maa is not just a movie, it is an emotional and spiritual experience. Rooted in devotion and wrapped in powerful storytelling, this film pays a bold and heartfelt tribute to Maa Kali, the fierce protector and symbol of feminine power. The visuals are striking, the music is soul-stirring, and the depiction of rituals and mythology is done with deep respect and intensity.
From the chants of devotees to the climactic divine appearance of Maa Kali, every scene captures the essence of faith, strength, and divine justice. The film brilliantly balances spiritual devotion with cinematic drama, making it relatable for the youth while honoring ancient traditions. The lead actor's transformation into a believer and the final surrender to the Goddess is particularly moving.
This film stands as a reminder that Maa is not just worshipped, she is experienced, felt, and lived through struggle and surrender.

Must watch movie , please go to the theatre and make it super hot.
Kajal is also brilliant, even at this age she was looking like a Diva Mom.
Love the songs , other actors also very brilliant and powerful acting.
I wish Bollywood in the future will give us some more and more like this movies connected with our roots - Puran Stories.

Folk Horror is a sub-genre of Horror which has recently re-emerged from obscurity across the globe with movies like the Witch, the Apostle, Midsommar, similarly in India movies like Tumbbad, Bulbbul, Chhorii, Shaitaan etc. These are not necessarily fast paced, jump scare laden horror movies but mostly slow burn, folklore and mythology themed movies that explore superstition, sacrifice and dark aspects of nature. In the current era when Horror Comedies have found unprecedented box office success, folk horror movies like Maa is a step in the right direction for horror movie enthusiasts.
Maa is not in the same league as Tumbbad and the others listed above but is a good attempt at serious folk horror. The movie stays focused on the mythology with no moments of comic relief as unnecessary detours. It slowly and steadily sets up the battle of good vs evil reminiscent of Maa Kali's showdown with the Rakshas Rakhtbeej. The end result is a pretty good attempt at folk horror. It is not great and could have been much better but still pretty effective as a serious horror movie.
Technically the movie is pretty strong in its visual imagery, practical VFX, make up, background music and overall cinematography. Kajol comes across as a very potent protagonist and gives a very fiery performance. Ronit Roy also gives a pretty decent performance, as do most of the other supporting cast. Kherin Sharma as Kajol's daughter feels a bit miscast and unconvincing in her role. Kajol channels a really strongly motherly bond towards her daughter, but Kherin seems a bit bland. There are some pretty effective jump scares and some very well choreographed scary action sequences, however the movie would have benefited from more of such scares and sequences.
Horror enthusiasts, especially those who like well made, slow burn folk horror should like the movie. I hope the movie finds its audience at the box office, especially if we want to watch more serious horror movies in theaters. It would be sad to give it the Tumbbad treatment on initial theatrical release only to rediscover it as a cult classic on streaming later. It is not at the level of Tumbbad or Chhorii or even Bulbbul but is worthy to be in the same sub-genre of good folk horror movies. I liked it. 7.5/10.

Kajol's performance in Maa is nothing short of a cinematic revelation. Her expressive eyes alone carry the weight of a mother's anguish, love, and resilience. Every glance, every gesture, and every movement is charged with emotion, making her portrayal both unforgettable and deeply moving. She brings to life a character who is fierce yet fragile, unyielding yet vulnerable a rare balance that only a powerhouse like Kajol can deliver. From the first scene to the last, she commands the screen with a presence so magnetic, it becomes impossible to look away. Her raw honesty, the sheer intensity of her performance, and the way she immerses herself in the role make Maa not just a film, but an emotional journey. Kajol doesn't just play the role she lives it, breathing soul into every frame and redefining what it means to portray maternal love on screen. She proves yet again that she is a true gem of Indian cinema, and Maa is a shining jewel in her illustrious crown.
