Bittersweet Perfection, Just Short of 10

The opening and ending songs were fantastic, but what truly surprised me was the background score. The mix of Japanese rock, electronic elements, and classical tones made the soundtrack worth the ticket alone.

The film quickly establishes the antagonist without overemphasizing, and the narrative flows naturally through the characters rather than relying on clichés. It leaves a bittersweet impression, almost like Natsume's Book of Friends.

MAPPA's visuals are stunning as expected, with a few scenes even giving me an Akira-like vibe in the best way possible.

The only reason it's not a perfect 10 is that I wanted more interaction between the main character and the supporting cast. Still, this movie is an exceptional experience in story, visuals, and especially music - easily one of the best anime films I've seen in years.

It is fun

It is what you expected it to be ... Pure fun.

Animation is lit the good ol Mappa is doing what it does best. First half is Emotion, second half is Action, Ending could have been different but they decided to close the movie there. Not that it make movie bad or anything it is still great and impactful. Can't wait for season 2.

MAPPA gave us the best animated film of the year! 2025 is a big year for anime!

The long-awaited "Chainsaw Man" movie has been released.

After almost three years, MAPPA gave us another glimpse of Denji and company's adventures, and I couldn't be happier with the result.

While comparing isn't ideal, we recently had the KNY movie, which was very good but didn't feel like a complete experience due to being the first of three parts.

The opposite is true of this movie, which is well-rounded from beginning to end and shows us the entire Reze the Bombshell arc. While it starts slowly, it gradually becomes more dynamic until we reach a point where we don't stop until the very end.

We have very good character development for Denji, a wonderful Reze with Aki performing perfectly. We also have the addition of supporting characters like the Angel Demon and the Shark Demon, who give us memorable scenes. There are also a couple of incredible Makima moments. Unfortunately, this movie loses its power due to her limited presence.

The film has everything: excellent animation, risqué scenes that serve the plot, and plenty of action and gore.

The budget allocated to it is clearly noticeable, and it's used to its full potential.

All of this is crowned with a bittersweet ending, revealing the outcome of Reze's story and a preview of what Makima will do next with other characters... A truly great experience, the best animated film I've seen this year.

"This author is definitely the same one who made 'Look Back!'"

At first, I wasn't into Chainsaw Man. I thought it was just another raunchy manga for teenage boys. But... after being moved by the movie "Look Back," I decided to rewatch the first anime season since it was by the same creator. That's when I learned about Himeno and Aki's backstory and Makima's conspiracy, and I got hooked.

Then, just one week later, I watched the movie "REZEarc" and ended up bawling my eyes out. That's when I truly understood: "This author is definitely the same one who made 'Look Back!'"

Chainsaw Man might seem like a typical action hero story, like Superman or Batman, at first glance. But it's actually the coming-of-age story of the protagonist, Denji. It's a human drama depicting the bonds, trust, betrayal, and disappointment within the various relationships that form during his growth. I think it's an emotionally stirring masterpiece.

I truly believe people who avoid watching this work just because it's labeled an action hero story are missing out.

I hope you'll ride this wave and connect with it, not just dismiss it as some raunchy anime for boys.

Best anime movie of 2025. Hands down.

Im a grown ass man ( no im not lol ) and i lowkey started sobbing with snot running down my nose as the end credits rolled. The post credit scene did cheer me up a bit but it did not alleviate the tears whatsoever.

I mean wow i READ the manga I knew what was going to happen but seeing it on the big screen wrenched my heart even tighter than when first experiencing it in the manga.

Insane performance by the voice acting team, stellar animation by the animators and thank you SO SO MUCH to Tatsuya Yoshihara for directing this masterpiece

A Visual Feast to fans of CSM

MAPPA continues to exceed expectations with breathtaking animation. Visually, Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc is cinematic in every sense. The contrast between soft, romantic lighting in the café scenes and the harsh, kinetic energy of the action sequences is striking. This visual juxtaposition mirrors the narrative duality-love and violence, tenderness and terror.

The transformation sequences, especially Reze's bomb form, are a stunning blend of body horror and elegance. The choreography during the fights-particularly the battle at the school and the waterlogged cityscape finale-are fluid, chaotic, and emotionally charged.

Background art deserves special mention. The everyday settings-dimly lit streets, empty classrooms, rainy alleys-evoke an eerie, melancholic mood. They ground the story in a familiar reality, making the supernatural elements even more jarring when they arrive.

Funny, bloody, and surprisingly heartfelt

This movie delivers exactly what you'd expect from Chainsaw Man - sharp humor, bloody action, and just enough drama to keep it from being mindless. The fight scenes are brutal but fun, the jokes land, and the emotional bits around Reze actually hit the right note. Not flawless, but it never feels cheap or boring. A solid, entertaining ride that balances chaos with heart.

great adaptation

Great music, great animation, great everything. This is truly peak. This was worth the three years, sort of. I went to japan in time to actually see this movie, i didn't even know the release date in japan but i got to watch it and it was actually one of the best anime films i've ever watched, if not the best. The pacing works well for me atleast. This was probably one of the best anime adaptations of all time for me. I like kenshi yonezu's music here, he makes fire music, both the opening themes and the ending themes are fire and i like the choreography and animation, i want more of this, i want more like this, i give this a ten out of ten but i would give it an eleven if i could.

It's alright, but maybe just not my taste.

This movie is basically the continuation of the first season. Chainsaw Man is always pretty strong whenever it comes to unique concepts and character designs. Although, personally, I am not a big fan of the new art style changes here. It looks like the 2D characters are half-finished instead of fully blending with the background. It does resemble the original author's art style but it could've been better if they added more gradation rather than flat colors. I also noticed that this movie tend to experiment with many different approach on particular scenes. Still, it was a decent animation for a theater scale. My favorite part about this movie was the soundtrack. They were all amazing and on point.

As a non-manga reader, I found the plot alright but there was not much depth to it. Some characters like Kobeni appeared without adding much to the story. Perhaps, it was just a simple fanservice to Kobeni fans. Everything was pretty interesting until the aftermath where they just kind of resolved everything through a simple talk at the beach. There was a plot twist at the end so I guess that could cover the flaws in the writing. I also do not particularly enjoy anime with many fanservice, but I know that Chainsaw Man had been like this since the first season, so if you are a fan of that then watch this movie.

Should have been a 1 hour special instead

Seems like the fans that loves the franchise gives it a 10 in rating and would probably do it no matter the quality of the content. The rest of us I guess just got bored and forgot all about it as soon as the movie ended and therefor didn't bother to rate it here.

There is barely any story, just a lot of screaming and never ending fights. Feels like being stuck in a Transfomers fight-scene until the end of time.

I've seen the series and liked it and didn't have any high expectations, just hoped for a good time and at least a 7/10 movie but no, It would have been better if it was one hour or less.

Beats the Already Great S1 Anime

This is the first film in a while I've dragged myself to a cinema to see, and boy am I glad I did.

I'll be brief - Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc is probably the best anime movie which adapts a manga for me - it paces things absolutely perfectly, which, given the messy structure of the material (not necessarily a bad thing) was undoubtedly challenging. It's a visual spectacle, absolutely gorgeous to watch, and the romantic writing of Fujimoto is amazing for a man who ate his pet goldfish and believes he can levitate. There's so much to unpack in this film, but if I can recommend one thing to watch, it's manipulation - there's a lot of manipulation which goes on in this film, some very obvious, but there's subtler and much more layered implications than the surface level parts of this film. If you're like me, observing this particular feature is really fascinating.

I usually try to give big long reviews breaking things down but I don't want to talk about the plot of this film at all - because giving it away would ruin it - I'll just say this - this is a step up from Season 1. It adds far more nuance to the show and is the first time I think Chainsaw Man really strides into a firm story after its extended introduction. This film has nailed that on the head.

The cinematography is also a particularly specific quality I noticed, with the shots done more carefully than in an anime - this felt like it was definitively an anime movie, which made the most of its budget to create an atmosphere above all else - I wanted Reze to get episodes in the show, but frankly, I've concluded the adaptation into film was the right call.

Overall, this is the best anime movie I've ever seen - there are no flaws, those who say it starts slow are being unfair because the slow start is needed for character development and character introduction. We wouldn't find this film so interesting without the first setup.

Overall, this is a 10/10 film and something you HAVE TO drag yourself out to see. It's a visual spectacle that reminded me of the fun of the big screen to see films.

A beautifully crafted film with outstanding animation, but limited narrative payoff.

Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc is a visually breathtaking film that reaffirms MAPPA's mastery of animation. Every frame feels meticulously crafted - from the fluidity of movement during intense sequences to the subtle details in lighting and reflections. The way the film captures glimmers in the characters' eyes or the faint shine of city lights on wet surfaces gives it a cinematic texture that few anime productions achieve.

The direction is dynamic yet controlled, using sharp cuts and smooth camera motion to heighten both action and emotion. Sound design and score complement the visuals perfectly, balancing chaos with moments of quiet atmosphere. It's clear that, on a technical level, Reze Arc stands among the best-looking anime films in recent memory.

Where it falls short is in narrative and character development. The film starts off engaging, with strong emotional tension and a promising setup, but the story plateaus before it can fully explore its ideas. Some characters feel underused, and while the presentation is beautiful, it doesn't always translate into meaningful progression or emotional payoff.

Even so, Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc remains a striking experience - stylish, ambitious, and technically superb. It's a feast for the senses, even if its heart feels a little underdeveloped.

Could've done better, but do I want that

Pretty much what the comic has given us, but when you make a movie, some changes could make it better. Few moves as such has been made. So the first half moves a bit too fast, maybe saving budget for the massive violence we got later. And it's indeed massive and violent. But after watching it twice, it's the small imperfection that lingers. I mean it's supposed to be great, still Aki could've swinged faster when ambushing Bomb, and Bomb could've punched faster when attacking Beam in air. Some slow mo scenes chould be better as well. Then I remembered Chainsaw man is a cult, yeah, it's popular but not for everyone. And a cult movie as far as I can recall is never perfect. And I love it despite the imperfection. Remember the saying"it's so bad and it's soooo good"? This one is not bad and it's SOOOOOOOO good!!

Peak

This was one of the best adaptation arc I've seen the animation the fluidity the music, I absolutely love how mappa went all out with the animation absolutely phenomenal must watch!! And the ending was hard to process I stayed until the end credits you should really wait since studios usually sneck in special scenes.
