Sri Lanka has its own cinema, which should be recognized as Sri Lankan Cinema, not just Sinhala Cinema. Our country is home to a diverse range of cultures, and therefore, cinema should represent the entire nation, not just one ethnic group. In this context, the film TENTIGO, directed by one of Sri Lanka's finest advertisement directors, Ilango Ramanathan, is a significant contribution to our film industry.
Drawing from his extensive experience in the world of advertisements, Ramanathan brings an artistic flair and a deep understanding of audience engagement to the screen. His ability to tap into the sense of humor of Sri Lankan audiences is remarkable. But it doesn't end there. TENTIGO has also impressed Indian audiences, as the movie was remade in Tamil. This marks a significant milestone as Ilango Ramanathan is the first director to remake a Sri Lankan movie with Indian actors.
While TENTIGO may not be a masterpiece, it certainly serves as an absolute adult family entertainer, filling a crucial gap in the Sri Lankan cinema landscape. This is exactly what Sri Lankan cinema needs: more quality films that entertain without compromising on substance.
There are many filmmakers who seem to be focused on selling historical narratives with low-quality screenplays and shallow, absurd movies. To those filmmakers, I urge you to watch TENTIGO. This is cinema. This is the level of quality that Sri Lankan audiences are craving.
With proper scripts and execution, Sri Lankan cinema has the potential to reach a global audience. It is not about imitation; it is about embracing and developing our own unique style, and Ilango Ramanathan has shown us that this is possible.
Well done, Ilango Ramanathan! Keep pushing forward.

This is a comedy movie from the outset and the situation, the characters, the incidents were properly written to generate lot of humor. But is it only a comedy movie to make people laugh..?
I guess not. There is an underneath layer which speaks about some social issues like sad realities of a middle class family, opportunistic people, father son relationships and how it related to education, mythical beliefs, etc.
It's like we laugh at ourselves by watching this movie. We live among these various issues and we don't see them as such. The power of cinema is such that it can show these in a different way so that the society can see and think about these issues. Great movie. A must watch.

Tentigo advertises itself and delivers exactly what it is: a Black Comedy for adult families. Beyond its simple plot line and concept, it highlights a family culture that is uniquely Sri Lankan and effectively injects understated humour that can be appreciated by anyone who has lived in the island. This is a rare comedic gem that doesn't rely on over-acting talents and over-exaggeration to generate audience laughter and illicit joy.
Tentigo's charm is in its innate authenticity: showcased in character relationships and its local setting. Despite the ridiculous premise, its characters are both realistic and relatable.
This may not be the film of the decade, but it certainly can capture the hearts of locals who can watch it with an open mind.

This movie sets itself apart from the usual Sri Lankan comedy genre in an exciting way! Hats off to the director and the crew for delivering this piece to the cinema.
