Great series!

The series is very entertaining and diverting. The original book is also about a lawyer, so @keikoyoshikawa seems to have got something mixed up in his review. The lawyer learns how to deal with certain situations from his mindfulness coach. The series is very closely modelled on the book. Only some of the supporting characters are different. I really enjoyed 'Mindful Murder'. It is a fast-paced production. There is not only this series, but also a corresponding theatre play, which I have already seen. The series and the play have the same structure. I'm already looking forward to the second season.

A few plot holes and having to suspend disbelief in palces, but overall a delight

Imagine you are a lawyer who can't find proper work-family balance, who gets no respect at work, is mistreated by his clients and whose family is falling apart. Would you go to a class that teaches you how to be mindful, how to live in the now, how to reduce stress? Yes? Well, that's what our hero does, albeit reluctantly at first.

And it helps, it truly does! He uses his newly learned skills to deal with dead bodies, suspicious mafia lieutenants, rival crime bosses, police.... And at home, with his family.

There are some plot holes in terms of how his actions play out, how others treat him and the like, but if you take the series as a comedy operating on comedic rules that don't always correspond with real life rules this is a funny series worth your time. Bite sized length episodes help in that each subplot doesn't drag out too much.

It was a great Entertainer ! Looking forward to S2 <3

My First German series and it didn't disappoint. I loved Tom Schilling's acting. He is perfect for the role. Absolutely entertained me and kept me coming for more. The Mindfulness lessons by the doctor (Who is also cast perfectly) worked well for me too Haha :D

Can't wait for S2 ! Kudos to the team. They've gone above and beyond with the camera work and I loved watching every frame. Emily was too cute. The whole plot combining Murder and Mindfulness, was not only bringing two extreme poles to work together, but also was fresh and engaging to watch. It goes to show that even Murder when committed with Mindfulness still works ;) Not planning to do any, but it instilled a quaint picture in my head of how being mindful in intense situations can look and feel like and that's a great takeaway from this series..

fish out of water

Murder Mindfully (German Language): Achtsam Morden. Netflix 2024 Unassuming Lawyer Bjorn, struggle with pressure, failing marriage, not seeing his daughter enough, guilt over representing local gangland boss etc.

What does he do to resolve this problems he seeks spiritual guidance.

After attending a course of "mindfulness" his life turns around for the better, with added complications,

If you consider Break Bad as the premise these types of programmes you'll get the idea.

It is thoroughly entertaining and very watchable and worth 4 hours of anyone times (8x1/2 episodes)

The only spoiler I will give, I think the maker have left it open to enable a second series, which it does warrant.

INTERESTING AND FULL OF THRILL!!!!

After a long time I watched a really good and well made series I can't wait for season 2 already, Each episode pulls you deeper into the plot, keeping you hooked with unexpected twists and emotional depth. The acting, direction and screenplay are mind blowing it just gets better and better. Hope it gets renewed for season 2. I think the main lead and all the actors have done a fabulous job and it is very mature and modern. Also the series does not play around and is not afraid to put characters in the most difficult position they can deal with is jst amazing to see unlike other shows where they favour their main lead. It's undoubtedly one of the best shows in recent memory.

Fantastic! If You Can Truly Switch Your Brain Off

Oof. I really enjoyed this series but there are so many plot conveniences that become harder and harder to ignore as the series progresses. Smart people become stupid when it's convenient, dumb people become smart when it's convenient, you'll be watching the show going "oh this is clever how they set this up how are they going to sort this out" then the writing just half asses the hell out of it... It's kind of funny really.

I'm in Canada watching the English dub and at first I thought maybe something was getting lost in translation but it became pretty obvious that was not the case towards the end.

Honestly I really enjoyed the show, more than a lot of other shows I've watched recently. It IS entertaining but if you watch it you'll see exactly what I mean.

Surprisingly good!

This is an 8-ep, 30 mins each, dark comedy thriller that has steadily been gaining some popularity by word of mouth. Call it a...'breezy' crime thriller; which doesn't make sense, because you'd use 'breezy' for something lighthearted and not for shows/films about murder but here we are.

The protagonist is an overworked, undervalued employee at a law firm whose life is beginning to fall apart, and his asks him to sign up for a series of classes on Mindfulness. As expected, he's totally against, as he calls it, 'such BS' but as the plot goes on, he buys into the idea of mindfulness to get rid of his 'problems' in life. Can't reveal anything more without getting into spoilers.

As he attends these classes, you hear everything you've seen/heard/practiced on mindfulness. The writing is so well done that you're likely to take deep breaths and follow along with the class instructor. Wh...how?

While the show isn't mind-blowing, in fact, one may even find several flaws, but if you're looking for something quick and different to watch, I'd totally recommend this show on Netflix. It's surely worth a watch.

Sehr Gut!

Unexpectedly, I enjoyed this series a lot.

Excellent acting, script, directing, production value. There were some pretty big plot holes, however, but they could be overlooked for the overall engrossing story.

I love that the conceit of the series uses the popularity of mindful meditation in Germany, with many people practicing it during commutes and at work.

The Netflix series is based on a series of novel - and both share the same name - that has a different protagonist and a completely different plot.

In the TV series the main character is a lawyer involved in murders. In the novels the main character is a mindfulness coach solving murders.

Which is better? I don't know, because I have never read the novels. But I do like the TV series.

I recommend watching this in German with subtitles.

Germans Version of Breaking Bad

If you are a Fan of Black comedy or mystery Crime Shows this is for you after "Dark" we have finally got another high quality TV series it feels kinda like Breaking Bad but alot faster story progress without the Drama and more Black Comedy the tension is all the time there and the Methodic of "Achtsamkeit" is brilliant involved into the Show it is very well made. The casting is great Tom Schilling one of the best actors Germany has plays this Role perfectly from Caring family man to his other side also his crime Partner plays pretty good. This show is Based of a novel you can Tell its very well made into a TV Show. Its one of those Shows you cant get enough off because it is so good. A total suprise never heard much of it only after the Release. Hopefully we see more of this Show it has alot of Potential.

Would have could have should have

Despite being constantly disappointed in German television, me as a German, this is quite okay to watch. Is it good? No. Is it bad, also no.

It's not mind-boggling like "Breaking Bad", but it goes into that direction.

From a logical standpoint, so many things are not even possible in Germany. It's upped for an international audience. That being said, there are many plot holes where you think: "Well, does it really?"

Anyways, the ~ 30min x 8eps is not wasted. It's okay-ish. And I hate German television/productions to the core. We landed one good one with "Dark" and before that there's a void.

So, enjoy the series, but think for yourself. Harsh reviews are not neccessary, because all in all, it was okay.

Interesting Concept, but Mixed Execution

Murder Mindfully is an unusual blend of dark humor and crime with a unique focus on mindfulness-something you don't see every day in TV crime shows. Tom Schilling does a good job as Björn Diemel, a stressed-out lawyer who tries to improve his life with a mindfulness course, only to end up, well... taking some extreme measures. The concept is fresh, and there are moments of genuine comedy mixed with suspense.

However, while the series starts strong, the storyline feels a bit repetitive at times, and some plot points don't feel fully developed. The pacing can be uneven, and it sometimes feels like it's trying to do too much at once. Still, fans of dark humor and quirky crime stories might enjoy it. Overall, it's a decent watch if you're in the mood for something different, though it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

MIndfulness, Crime, Comedy

German sequel based on a quite popular book. An underdog lawyer, underpaid, overworked, just good for the "dirty" work with a crimnal gang discovers "mindfulness". This profoundly changes his life ... The actors possess different qualities. I adore Peter Jordan with a schmaltzy, mindful voice of his as therapist whose wisdom is inserted from time to time. Whether Tom Schilling hits the nail, I could not tell exactly, and I leave it to your own impression.

In playful way close to cynicism, quite cruel deeds are portrayed. You would not want to have <16 present, would you?

Not only If you as a lawyer want to transcend your field of work, would this sure be a good sequel to watch.

Plotholes and smoking Barrels

The scripts are solid, despite the somewhat simple-minded police. Unfortunately, the plot leaves a lot to be desired. Tom Schilling saves the whole thing with his outstanding presence, but sometimes you do wonder what the makers were thinking. For example, an assassin throws a hand grenade into a car without first checking whether there is anyone inside. He does the same thing a second time, throwing a hand grenade into an apartment without first checking whether the person he wants to kill is even in the apartment - an apartment in which the target does not even live, but in which he is only supposed to be hiding, which the assassin's employer only knows from an intercepted phone call. What's more, a special police squad has already stormed into the apartment at this point - how can the assassin not have noticed this? This is too implausible even for a comedy.

The role of Toni is a caricature and almost destroys the series. He exudes no danger whatsoever and is not funny. Marc Hosemann really didn't have a good day here, or the director has problems leading actors. Maybe he should take some extra lessons from Guy Ritchie when it comes to bizarre supporting characters.

A pleasant German dark comedy-crime series

It consists of 8 episodes and is based on a bestselling novel following Björn Diemel, a defence lawyer entangled with a mafia boss, who turns to mindfulness to regain control over his chaotic life. However, his newfound serenity leads him down a dangerous path, as he begins to or is involved at eliminating those disrupting his peace and endangering the existence of his own and people close to him. Björn's meditative practices are combined with violent acts, creating a darkly humorous tone reminiscent of shows like Barry and Dexter and depiction elements like in The Office or Alo.

The writing walks a fine line between absurdity and insight, often leading viewers to genuinely reflect on mindfulness techniques while chuckling at the ridiculous situations the protagonist finds himself in. The direction maintains a balance between suspense and character development, with smooth transitions between comedic and dramatic moments: crimes are never funny, but the parties to it can be.

Tom Schilling's portrayal of Björn is central to the series' success. His splendid performance captures the character's internal conflict and descent into moral ambiguity. Several supporting actors provide emotional grounding amidst the chaos, although their presence on screen is often limited. Special mention goes to Peter Jordan as mindfulness coach with an almost hypnotic calmness that's both soothing and comically out of place amid the darker elements.

In short, Achtsam Morden is a fresh, genre-blending surprise that turns out to be both thought-provoking and entertaining. As Season 1 ended in an intriguing manner, I am looking forward to Season 2.

Entertaining, but Missing the Big Punch

A lawyer who accidentally becomes a murderer... already sounds like a nightmare. And as if that wasn't enough, he also tries to cover everything up, be a good father, and keep his wife happy. Quite a lot at once. But instead of getting help from professional killers or shady problem-solvers, he finds support-surprisingly-through a mindfulness retreat! Instead of blood and drama, we get breathing exercises and self-reflection. Does that help with covering up a murder? That exact premise makes the series kind of exciting.

I binged the miniseries in one go and have to say: it was pretty okay. Entertaining, often funny dialogue, and the story develops a bit more with each episode. But honestly, neither a specific episode nor the season as a whole really blew me away. I kept waiting for that one moment-a big twist or clever turn-but it never came. And that was a bit disappointing.

Of course, the main character isn't a cold-blooded mastermind, but still a lawyer who didn't choose this situation, but maybe that could've been told in a more exciting or surprising way. So in the end, what stuck with me was: the series was nice. I won't be impatiently waiting for season 2, but if it happens to come out and I hear about it, I'd keep watching.

All in all, each episode was a solid 7/10 for me-and that's also my rating for the first season as a whole.

How mindfulness should be taught- with a fistful of comedy

What a take on mindfulness, applying it in do or die situations with a comic blast. Someone dies because you were just mindfully spending your day with your daughter.

To learn mindfulness as a lecture about counting till 10, focusing on breath etc. Is so intellectual. Instead, in a story, you are thrown with the character into a difficult situation where the teacher's words ring in your ears and you act on that. Real life case studies. His calm in the elevator despite life threatning situation is an example stamped on my mind.

A sequel where he gets even more polished in his reactions or rather responses would be a good growth arc to see.

Refreshing

This series is nothing new as story. If you have watched various crime-comedy shows and movies before, then you won't be surprised about any progress in this series.

However, the new thing about this series is that this progress is explored by a new angle (at least new to me). This angle is exploring the effect of human nature to the instant decisions in a crime world.

The second thing that I liked about this series is the time of episodes. Most shows tend to be 45+ minutes by introducing fillers each episode. However, this series kept it simple and rarely introduced fillers which really gave the show an excellent pacing and progress.

Very recommended.

Made things look too simple

The plot was nice and unique but the story writing seemed like life was too easy and doing people were too dumb around him. Rather than coming up with unique ideas to get out of a situation they just wrote the most idiotic plotlines. For me it was a waste of time. Only the ending of each episode seemed a bit hooking, trying to see how he'll get out of that tight situation and there goes next episode with another stupid ideas and stupid people around him buying it. If people around us were that simple than I guess everyone would have been committing crimes and got away with it. They are plenty of mideocre shows that does it better than this.
