Too Good To Be True is a channel 5 mini series psychological drama thriller. Which aired in 2024.
Starring Allen Leech and Kara Tointon.
It's about Obsession, power and what goes on behind closed doors.
Despite the low rating and some negative reviews it's surprisingly good. So don't be fooled.
The first episode was good just persevere with it as the series does get better.
It's little predictable but a good watch !
Too Good To Be true is intense and thrilling to watch !!
Acting was good ! Least Kara Tointon is more of a natural actress than Michelle keegan. She is not so wooden. Kara Tointon is more believable!!
Allen Leech is such a brilliant actor I think he played the part extremely well he was the one you stood out more in this drama.
Overall it surprised me that it's not a bad watch for a channel 5 drama I've seen some rubbish in my time. So I know what is good regarding tv and acting.
Give it a watch as it's good!!

Having watched some utter dross in 2024 whe it comes to tv drama I went into this with some trepidation as a result of all the recent reviews. This is a little predictable but is easy to watch and does have a storyline. I think some of the reviews are a little harsh considering some dramas I've watched based upon good reviews only to find they are shockingly bad. I'm glad it's only 4 episodes long however the story flows nicely, setting the scene and although most people would scoff at the storyline by saying "well this is too good to be true" I guess that's the whole point.
Overall I would say this is worth a watch if at a loose end.

I guess this a show for keeping in the background. You know, when you like to have some noise, while doing something. I actually do that often, when I code, for example: put a TV show or a movie on one side of the screen, and code on the other. When in that kind of mode, this show may look decent, since it has quite good dynamics, but...
When you start to think about it seriously it makes little to no sense. The woman has a kid, and we are led to believe, she cares about him, and sacrificing her own food for him even. But then, she has an abusive ex, against whom she does not have a restraining order (and probably did not even try), and then she takes the kid with her to a random "billionaire" that wants her to clean for him without much of an afterthought, that it may be dangerous.
Not only that, but she also completely ignores the requirement to not enter prohibited area on her 2nd day. Or 1st one depending on how you count really. Don't get me wrong, even "The Beauty and The Beast" had this kind of thing in it, and numerous other stories, too, but they always either tempt the character to break the rule or force through some kind of accident. There was no accident here, and I do not think closed doors tempt people that much to risk a job one needs to literally survive.
But I guess, that's what you would expect from a person taking her kid inside guests' rooms in a hotel, she is cleaning at. Taking the kid to the hotel, because there is no one to look after him? That I can understand. Taking him inside the rooms? Definitely a no-no, and in real world would probably result in her getting fired pretty soon.
These seemingly little things break the whole atmosphere that the show is trying to build. Since this is supposed to be a thriller, the damage is outright fatal.

As usual with this type of drama, this started off OK and went downhill rapidly. It is very predictable and some of it makes no sense at all. It is obvious right from the very start that Elliot is the bad guy and the big reveal at the end is an hilarious anti-climax as many of us guessed what he had done anyhow. The sudden change in his P. A. Simone was absolutely ridiculous as one minute she hated Rachel but the next she cared deeply for her wellbeing.
The acting was OK and it was a shame that Taj Atwal was so underused as Jasmine. Kara Tointon seemed to be scowling throughout though which was a bit off putting. Overall this was flat and the ending was truly funny with the least menacing child in history giving a cold stare into the camera. This made me think there would be a second series but I doubt it.

Like many drama series these days the ending seems more about the production team having run out of time rather than the writer having a credible ending to his or her plot. Why have 3 and a half episodes out of 4 leading up to a rushed damp squib of an ending? How it ends should at least be explored somewhat or perhaps a 2nd series is in the pipeline? If so, do not bother. In the 3 episodes that lead up to the finale there are many plot holes but once one knows the end there are even more. Take the advice from my title and go and watch something more interesting like the proverbial paint drying.
