David Gordon Green shifts gears and makes a holiday drama with a premise that's familiar all the way. You know how everything's gonna go down, so the least you'd expect is some Ben Stiller-modeled laughs. There's not much here in the way of humour, except for one very random John Rambo bedtime story. The screenplay offers absolutely no surprises, although this isn't the kind of film that's insufferable to sit through, with mushy melodrama and overblown Christmas aesthetics. For those who were expecting a Christmas classic, well.. this AIN'T it. I'll pick Bad Santa and Violent Night over this any December. And if I need well-written drama, I'd go for The Holdovers.

But, I just liked it. Ben's acting seemed as if he didn't even want to be there and I could barely understand what the kids were saying half the time. I felt like I was watching the "Wolfpack" brothers if they looked like the "Hanson" brothers. The kids lack of discipline was annoying at times and yet they were smart and capable. I almost wondered if the parents faked their demise and ran away. Would i recommend this movie? Probably if you want to watch a confusing family movie with a Christmas theme. There was something about the brothers that is intriguing and I hope to see more of them in the future after they hone in on their acting skills.
This movie was a complete letdown. First off, it's hard to even understand what the film was trying to accomplish. The kids in the story were insufferable obnoxious and hard to like (credit to the actors, not a criticism of them personally). Meanwhile, Ben Stiller's character started off as reasonable: he had a job with an important deadline, and he was helping his sister, who had thrown her life away. Despite that promising start, the plot went nowhere.
The pacing was terrible, with long, unnecessary scenes of kids jumping and running. It felt forced and strange, like the filmmakers had no idea what they wanted the movie to be. It wasn't a comedy, a Christmas movie, or even a heartfelt drama. It was just... nothing. Boring from start to finish.
To make matters worse, the premise a typical "adult is left to take care of unruly kids" story didn't deliver anything fresh or meaningful. The kids were unbearable, and the narrative dragged without any real payoff. I can't think of a single redeeming quality.
I would have given it a 1-star rating, but I'll settle on 2 just to avoid seeming overly harsh. That said, it's still the worst movie I've seen all year. Save yourself the time and skip this one.

Nutcrackers is a film starring Ben Stiller as an Uncle who has to try and take care of his sisters 4 boys on their farm as she recently passed away.
Its a situation that takes him out of his corporate office life comfort zone.
His Nephews are free spirited and slightly feral but also dealing with trauma and loss.
This is not a laugh out loud hijinks comedy but more of a heartwarming family film.
There is a vague christmas theme but its mot christmassy per se.
The 4 boys are played brilliantly and very real by 4 actual real life brothers who's real lives mimic that of the story.
Overall its a nice but fairly lightweight watch, its not super deep or super funny but it is heartwarming and has some nice themes.
It was nice to see Ben Stiller back acting again in a more serious role.
6 or 7 out of 10.

1st of December, what should we watch? There's a new Christmas movie out with Ben Stiller, that should be good... wrong.
You ever watched someone's unruly children running around a store or restaurant and just want to leave before you lose it? This movie encapsulates this perfectly. I had no connection to Bens character or the kids whatsoever. I didn't even realise they were all brothers until half way through the movie.
Strange & unnecessary montages of the bratty kids dancing around the country side with absolutely nothing to do with Christmas apart from it being set in winter.
A real let down for Bens first lead role in years. Don't waste your time.

I really do not understand the harsh reviews. This is a sweet film. Not a typical Christmas film maybe, but also nothing groundbreaking. The boys, all real life brothers, are excellent. I didn't think they were obnoxious characters as other reviewers have suggested, just young kids grieving the loss of both parents! It's not too cheesy or schmaltzy, I laughed out loud a few times (it's gently funny rather than hilarious). This was my first Christmas film of 2024 and a nice gentle one to start the season off. I suppose people expect more lights and music and adventure, plus general cheesiness with a "Christmas" film so perhaps that's is why eating are bad. It's just a nice Sunday afternoon type film. I enjoyed it. Only real criticism is zero diversity. Not really any excuse for that these days.

Yikes
A big Chicago hot shot named Michael (Mike) must return to smaller life when his sister passes away and leaves 4 kids parentless. He is going back to try and sort the foster parent situation, as things are on hold he must spend the weekend with Justice, Junior, Simon and Samuel. The boys who prove to be a lot will also be an extra heave in trying to find them a new home. The question is will Mikes personal life take importance over the relocation of his nephews.
It's a really good idea for a movie but it feels like nothing clicked, the kids are grieving but acting like feral animals at one minute and an hour later are perfectly fine, this happens a lot in the movie.
There are some heartfelt scenes and the acting isn't an issue, I just feel the movie wasn't Christmas themed bar the last 20 minutes. It was long and boring at times unfortunately, I don't recommend, maybe watch a classic instead, 4/10.

I'd watch anything with Ben Stiller in it, at least for a little while, and the little while here was pretty short. To tell the truth, I thought that this was a sure shot for our aging beloved Ben: an aloof businessman learning to love and become a father, as his sister died leaving him four preteen children.
And the kid actors are spot-on on how children behave after such a loss, becoming belligerent, full of angst, and looking for relief by being wild and unruly.
So it has all ingredients to become a tearjerker Christmas drama, but it wants to be an 'uncomfortable' comedy like Meet the Parents, or at least want to be sold as such. And that doesn't fly. Too much mourning and death for such a light-headed comedy it wanted to be. It doesn't fit.
It is set in farm, so it is also a fish out of.water situation for businessman Ben, from where half the 'jokes' come from; all the lazy tropes you already saw a thousand times: Does businessman Ben step on poop as soon as he leaves the car? Yes. Does Ben wake up with animals in his bed? Yes. Is Ben provoked by the kids to kill a chicken for supper? Yes.
And by then I turned off the movie, so take this review with a grain of salt, but whatever happens later in the movie, is already tainted by the tired writing by the numbers and the financial choice to tone down real life drama to fit into a feelgood comedy:
'I guess it is true what mom said about you,' says the older angst sad kid out of the blue in their first interaction.
'What is that?' Clueless Ben asks.
'That you can't love...'
'That is... stupid'
Indeed. Stupid writing. And also so on the nose that bleeds.
It is 2024, when we have access to all sorts of libraries of entertainment, including classics that done these same themes over and over, and you may ask yourself why you are wasting your Christmas time with this movie instead of those. Perhaps because this movie can make you happy that you don't have to deal with four sad hyperactive kids who lost their parents that you would never be able to replace.
Good photography, though.

I went into watching this movie thinking that it was another Ben Stiller slapstick comedy. However, I ended up being pleasantly surprised that Nutcrackers isn't that. It's hard to capture in words, what makes it good. Yes, it's heartwarming, funny and somewhat light, but it's the kids, their animals, and their rural environment that end up capturing your heart. I wasn't surprised when I later read that the boys are actually brothers in real life and that it was filmed on their family's actual farm. Ben Stiller was good but seemed a little out of place in the flow of things - but I guess that was the point wasn't it? :-)
I always love Ben Stiller's movies, wherever he is plotted in a movie he is very fitting in playing it. Even though the movie is written by himself or not, at the right time to watch this movie, because I miss the rural atmosphere in the movie, currently the movies tell too much about monsters, the future, aliens and things about the future.
This movie even though Ben is not 100% a comedy actor, there is still a sense of comedy, even though the plot is about children who are abandoned by their parents. However, the sense of drama, comedy, and the message of this movie is really interesting. The producers of this movie are very smart in choosing child actors.

Nutcrackers (2024) aims to deliver holiday magic but falls far short of expectations, resulting in an experience that feels almost meaningless. The plot meanders without a clear purpose, and the script suffers from poor writing, filled with clichés and lifeless dialogue. This, paired with its overly slow pacing, makes it difficult to stay engaged.
The visuals are uninspired, with bland set designs and lackluster cinematography that fail to capture the festive spirit. The characters are shallow and underdeveloped, offering little for viewers to connect with emotionally. Even moments that aim for humor or charm feel forced and ineffective.
While Nutcrackers might appeal to someone who simply wants to pass the time with a holiday-themed movie, it ultimately fails to provide any memorable or enjoyable moments. It's a disappointing entry in the holiday movie lineup, lacking the warmth and joy that make the genre special.

Ben Stiller must have owed someone a favor to do this movie. There's no other explanation as to why such a talented actor would get involved in such dreck. This movie is so awful that it makes Little Fockers seem like a cinematic masterpiece.
Nutcrackers is an absolute embarrassment. Every moment is entirely predictable. There are zero laughs, zero suspenseful moments, and zero scenes where the viewer is emotionally involved. There is simply no point to this movie and there's zero entertainment value here. Stay away and watch paint dry or grass grow as those are much more entertaining endeavors.
This is in the running for worst movie of 2024.

This starts a little slow, but stick with it, because it gets better. Yes, Ben Stiller's character is flat, but the rest of the cast makes up for this. There are moments when you'll think his character is the most heartless person on the planet, and for the most part, that seems to fit him, but keep watching. There will be a shift in the film where things will click with where the story is going, and it will start to take off from there. By the end, you will be glad you stuck around because that's when it all wraps up in the best way. Also, the boys in the film are brothers in real life, which is interesting to me. Enjoy!
With the name "Nutcrackers," I was expecting this comedy to be more like the Problem Child series with a Christmas twist. Ben Stiller's character mimics the acting he did in the "Meet the Parents" series where he plays an average Joe who finds himself in some comedic situations while caring for four young boys. I gave extra stars for the writers creating realistic scenes in which any parent of unsupervised rambunctious boys could find themselves in. The story line loses stars because of the pivot the story took when the ballet performance idea was introduced. Too much was jammed into such a short amount of time. I don't believe this movie will become a Christmas classic nor do I feel I will be watching it again. However, it does have a nice heartwarming ending.

Many problems with this movie, the first being it was marketed as a comedy when it's a quirky drama a la Little Miss Sunshine. It suffered from an identity crisis.
Next, the emotional hits in this movie were swings and a miss. Not earned, so they didn't pack the punch. It wasn't funny enough to be a comedy and it didn't earn the heartfelt drama. The relationships and connections weren't there.
Mighty Ducks did it better. Worldly guy gets a pack of misfit kids dumped in his lap and he learns to love them. That's what this movie should have been. Funny and with some heart.
Swing and a miss boys, swing and a miss.

Embrace the weirdness and just enjoy the simple messages in this uplifting little Christmas movie. Some people seem to hate it when a film tries something a bit new and strays from the norm. The formula here is as old as time but the delivery is quirky and offbeat. Really enjoyed it! I wish we had more films like this being made, so refreshing to have a simple character driven story with no CGI or over-the-top dramatic jeopardy. The young boys are great at playing a ragtag bunch of unique and interesting little toerags with their hearts in the right place. Supporting cast don't have a great deal to do but that's fine as the focus stays on Stiller and the boys.
I rarely write reviews here anymore, only when I feel I must: 5.5 stars rating, reviews with 1*, seriously?? Who are this people?
This is not a film for kids, it's not for insensitive natures that like late Adam Sandler humour and Terrifier movies, it's a smart movie, so it's not for primitive idi**s, it's not for miserable nitpickers that criticise the lighting and camera angle, and it's not for pretentious as***es that always go with the crowd and the hype, but have no real taste or own opinion, for those people I recommend Barbie, Deadpool & Co.
This is first and foremost a NICE movie, unassuming, doesn't overstay its welcome, with understated fine humour in every scene, entertaining, has a stellar cast, irrelevant plot but with attention to how it is made, it's for mature people who CAN DISTINGUISH GOOD FROM BAD movies, a light and warm Christmassy film that is capable of letting you forget harsh reality, because it has CHARM. And that is a very rare quality.
So If you can enjoy Paddington, Green Book, All Creatures Great and Small, etc., and are in mood for light entertainment, then this may be for you.

25 minutes in and I quit. Here I am writing this instead, which is much more fun than going on with this undecided and pointless movie.
What's the cinematic fascination with weird kids? I don't get it. I just don't get it. What now, Ben Stiller will "become capable of love" and start doing nonsensical stuff with those four by the end? Why?
Brought up by weird parents, or maybe not brought up at all, this gang of siblings (played by a gang of siblings) has ZERO charm in my eyes. I'd prefer watching The Sound of Music. Now, those kids there do make sense in some way. What's this, really? Royal Tennenbaums? Much as I don't like it, that one had some sharp style to it. This one, no. A group of annoying kids exist in their own dead end realm, only to annoy who is essentially a passable uncle. There are ways to depict annoying people in a cinamatic fashion without actually annoying the viewer, but no, this film is set to annoy us. To what avail?
I was hopeful about Linda Carellini's presence, thinkig some flare between her and Stiller could make up for all the pointless bore. Doesn't look like such a thing can cut it after this point. Given I cannot get my 25 minutes back, we'll call it even by me trashing the movie a bit on here.
Is Ben Stiller trying to "go beyond comedy" or something? If so, this is not the way. This kind of dull script is not hospitable to his qualities as an actor. The premise did not look unfruitful, but the execution definitely is. This is the first time I'm deciding to pause on a Stiller movie. C'mon, man, even if you're gonna quit comedy, do it for the sake of something worth the trouble.
No one needs to see the resolution to some overhyped drama after two hours of being subjected to pointless actions of weird kids. Good Will Hunting exists already as a well-executed example to such emotional agitation. If I were that uncle, I'd be out before the first night and never look back. Let the government take care of troubled orphans.

Nutcrackers unfortunately has been marketed as a holiday season film. It isn't and this starts the disconnect. Since it has a definite time element of unfolding during Christmas Season there is that, but it is only a kind of backdrop. Intended to be a comedy this is in the stew for sure, but it leans into what I'd turn more of a drama with comedic elements. So, don't expect Ben Stiller from Something About Mary, Meet The Parents, or Zoolander. This is a flatter Stiller, one that can play a kind of boring lawyer type coming of age as a person who cares for others. I don't have a problem with that, but a looser and comedic take might have worked even better for the character on the whole.
That said, the story of a rigid self-absorbed and aging, slightly Scrooge type, single businessman suddenly thrust into taking on care for 4 most unorthodox wild boys has some charm. In a bit we come to care for "the boys" who seemed early-on to be beyond hope as does Stiller's uncle Michael character with inner empathy for them bringing it together. Not an easy thing with four children.
Losing his "big deal" in Chicago changes Michael as now he focuses on the four boys. As Michael bonds with the youngsters a crazy deal is forged with his hopes of showcasing them in order to find a possible home for them. This is where the story goes for the heartstrings in a creative way. It's over the top silly and makes you believe in love conquering all. That works for me.

Be prepared to be annoyed. The director should leave Hollywood. Sooo bad. From casting to set design it's awful everything. Ben Stiller deserves better and know idea why he agreed to this movie! Linda is good too but this is is B-C-D movie. I hope they spent as little on this movie as it appears they did. Why kids with speech impediments not cute hard to understand. Androgynous girls or boys. Your audience doesn't want to guess if they are girls or boys it's annoying as the rest of this movie.soundtrack not good either 👎👎👎👎👎👎 you will regret watching. Garbage don't waste your precious time watching.
From the very start it seems off and it never recovered. It tries to be this wild qwerky story and it fails miserably. I dont think i at any point bought into wwhat was being portrayed and told. And cant blame it on bad acting, in fact all played their parts well, but the setup, story and circumstances just fell through entirely. I really wanted to like the movie, but the next minute you got presented by the next wierd scenario who killed any buzz that might be brewing. Put on a santa hat and watch where the wild things are if you want a good movie and have the urge for a christmas theme.. hence that santa hat. This movie will only be remembered for a terrible story line.
