Horror icons Kane Hodder and Bill Moseley are teaming up to star in the indie horror film Covet, Variety has learned.

When a sleazy car salesman is framed for the murder of his mistress, he must prove his innocence — only to learn the forces responsible may not be human.

The film marks the sophomore effort from writer-director Brian McQuery, who recently helmed Plea with another genre favorite, Heather Lagenkamp.

“I’m thrilled to work with Kane in a role crafted to take advantage of both his intimidating presence and sense of humor,” McQuery said in a statement. “And I can not wait to see what Bill Moseley will do with his portrayal of Sheriff Troy.”

Smallville’s very own Lex Luthor, Michael Rosenbaum, serves as one of the co-creators behind an upcoming television series based on the notorious serial killer Dorothea Puente (per Deadline). Known as the Death House Landlady, Puente callously murdered some of the elderly people who stayed at her boarding house in Sacramento, California during the 1980s. The mass murderer would then profit off her victims by cashing in their social security checks.

The former President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, Jeff Frost, is spearheading the Dorothea Puente project as an executive producer through his production company, Bristol Circle Entertainment. Co-creator Joshua Michael Stern will serve as the showrunner and an executive producer, while co-creators Rosenbaum and Jane Whitney will serve as writers and EPs. Rosenbaum portrayed Clark Kent’s (Tom Welling) best friend and later his most dangerous adversary for seven seasons on the must-see WB and CW series, Smallville.

Prolific actor Tony Todd, especially popular with horror fans for his roles in the genre, passed away on Nov. 6 at his Los Angeles Home. Per Deadline, Todd's death was confirmed by his reps, but the cause of death is not yet known. He was 69 years old.

Todd was born on Dec. 4, 1954. After studying theater at the Eugene O'Neil National Actors Theatre Institute, he began appearing in movies and TV shows by the mid-1980s. One of his very first roles was in Oliver Stone's acclaimed 1986 war film Platoon alongside Charlie Sheen, Johnny Depp, and Willem Dafoe. The film won Best Picture at the Academy Awards, among other Oscars, helping to further launch Todd's career.

It’s fitting, then, that the final outing for prolific Amityville writer/director Mark Polonia takes the “franchise” into the furthest reaches of space in the year 3015.

It’s been a few entries since Polonia’s last outing. He’s the creative responsible for Amityville Island, Amityville Exorcism, and Amityville Death House. Of these, Island has some amusingly self-aware bits, Death House has a great spider walk finale, and…well, the less said about Exorcism the better.

After an “in name only” outing with Amityville Prison (aka Against The Night), there’s something reassuring about Amityville Exorcism, which delivers exactly what the title suggests.

This is the second outing for director Mark Polonia after Amityville Death House, who swaps out writer John Oak Dalton for “franchise” newcomer Billy D’Amato. Alas, what made Death House an entertaining, albeit uneven, watch – ie: a pair of gonzo sequences – is mostly absent in this film.

Exorcism begins with a typical Amityville set piece in which father Charles Humes (Ken Van Sant) murders his wife and daughters in their home. Polonia and cinematographer Lukas K. Reynolds shoot this sequence in a dream-like fashion: partially in slow motion, with an accentuated heartbeat pounding on the soundtrack.

More horror films spoofing Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan are on the way. Thanks to these classic stories becoming part of the public domain, the doors were wide open for filmmakers to do whatever they wanted with the beloved characters with the controversial Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey leading the way. That film didn't exactly impress the critics, but it was a huge success financially, so it's no surprise to see other filmmakers putting their hands into that cash-filled honey pot.

With that said, Variety has revealed the production of two new parody horror films, one taking aim at Winnie the Pooh with the other spoofing Peter Pan. The news comes out of the Cannes film market, reporting that the films come from German distributor Dolphin Medien and the UK produciton company Red Shadow Studios. I feel lied to.

While yes, technically Eric Roberts is in 2015’s Amityville Death House, he’s basically hidden under a mask and appears solo for his whole one minute of screen time (Clearly this cameo was filmed separately from the rest of the production and took approximately one hour to complete).

Barring the slightly misleading advertising, the twelfth Amityville film remains weirdly entertaining. It’s not good at all, but there’s something admirable about its “everything-but-the-kitchen-sink” approach to storytelling, which helps to offset the truly terrible acting. Because let’s be real: you can forgive amateur actors if there’s a spider woman in your film’s climax.

Prolific character actor Sean Whalen may be best known for playing Roach in Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs, but he has over 140 other screen acting credits to his name as of today, and now he’s set to make his feature directorial debut with a horror movie called Crust… a strange tale that involves a sock monster. Whalen has reserved the lead role for himself, but Deadline reports that he’s also building up a strong supporting cast. Succession‘s Alan Ruck (who may still be best known for playing Cameron in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) and genre regular Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) have joined the cast, which also includes Daniel Roebuck (Rob Zombie’s The Munsters), Rebekah Kennedy (Two Witches), Shawntay Dalon (Detroiters), Ricky Dean Logan (Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare) and Daniel John Kearney (Dark Circles).

There’s a load of great content coming to Netflix in November, but just as is always the case, there are also a bunch of titles being removed from the streaming service at the same time. Next month, the platform is losing 53 movies and TV shows. There are some classics amongst them, too, unfortunately, so you might want to fit in a last minute rewatch before they vanish from Netflix’s library.

On the first day of November, four titles are being removed, including horror remake Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, children’s animated sequel Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil and Gerard Butler action movie Olympus Has Fallen. 2017 horror Death House is also leaving on the 4th, while drama Into the Forest departs Netflix on the 6th and Jamie Foxx vehicle Sleepless is among those disappearing the following day.

Martin Scorsese’s mobster movie swan song The Irishman will not spell the death knoll for gangster films as long as independents continue to mine lesser known criminals. The film Mob Town told the story of the 1958 mafia summit in Apalachin, N.Y., which brought organized crime to national attention. The upcoming series Silent Partners brings a Genovese family unit to series on the same service that brought Robert De Niro and Al Pacino's mob pairing. 3 From Hell is by far one of 2019’s most-anticipated horror releases. The conclusion to Rob Zombie’s gory Firefly family trilogy has been teased heavily by practically everyone involved with the production and from the numerous trailers and clips we’ve seen of it, it truly does seem like it’ll be a fitting conclusion to the series.

Unfortunately, however, it’s not all good news for 3 From Hell, as one of its stars, Sid Haig, has suffered some kind of accident and is now in the ICU. It’s still unclear exactly what happened, but the actor’s wife shared an update on his Instagram page last night notifying everyone that her husband had been hospitalized and now, she’s returned with another message, saying:

Happy Halloween, everyone! While I know it’s a bittersweet feeling that our favorite holiday is finally upon us, that doesn’t mean we have to bid the horror genre farewell any time soon. November’s digital releases kick off on Friday with Possum, Welcome to Mercy, and Monster Party, and then just a few days later, get ready for Death House, Kin, The Heretics, Beyond the Sky, and Blood, Sweat and Terrors on November 6th. One week later, the cyber thriller Searching hits various platforms (and is definitely worth a watch), and there are a few more titles making their digital debuts that day as well: Blue My Mind, Lasso, and Bloody Ballet.

A director has been announced for Ghost Walk Studios and 333 Productions' Dead Slate and its none other than Staci Layne Wilson (Psycho Therapy). We have the film's production and casting news. A new trailer for Death House is here and it looks like a bloody little treat for horror lovers to enjoy in the near future. This movie has been described as "The Expendables of the horror genre" and, based on what we're seeing here, that seems to be a fair assessment. Whether or not that equates to a good movie is another question entirely, but they've certainly managed to gather together a massive group of genre icons all in one place, which is undoubtedly enticing.
