Went in with no big expectations but I am absolutely shocked how much I loved this - watched it in one go! I am from Latvia so a lot of the historical themes and background knowledge is culturally very close to me, but I am pretty sure that the series translates well to other nations as well. It's like The Office and Stromberg (a German TV series with black humour) meeting the 17th century. Good actors, good story line and great jokes weaving in the 21st century as well - I laughed out loud more times than I could count. Well done, Poland, I can recommend this series to everyone! Will show it to my family too.
Amazing idea for the office like comedy placed in 17th century Poland. I can only hope this is so funny also for non-polish audience.
Scenes are fantastic based in real town scenery (not a cgi), the characters are so vivid and adorable. The leading actor finally found it's perfect spot to play and show his true skills even though this is only comedy series.
I've never seen that Polish producers pulled off such a great show where even the current events are mentioed but in a very stylish way. Best of this that many problemy can be understand by eu audience.
Feel free to jump in random episode - you will immerse to this world immedietally.

God knows, since "The Hundred Year Old Man who Jumped out of a window and Disappeared ', I can't say that I found same satisfaction in any comedy of kind.
This ain't the same perhaps but it's nearing This show is equal to 3x Prozacs..so make sure you have it on your face flicks' list... if needed. SO uplifting, such amazing acting, location, costumes, camera, choreography, dances, music And especially Hats... Plus When is the last time you find yourself watching a TV Show where All characters are Adorable??
Costumes, Location, Hats, Script,Costumes,Dialogues, location, art direction, camera, direction are all superb.
Loved casually dropped innuendo and dry humor and sarcastic yet kind references.
This is a MUST see show to relish. Hope there will be a second season..Gosh We missed it soon as it ended:((
You do Not wish to leave them when it ends..You Rather be in the set With them.

I've been quite sad that Netflix cancelled Norsemen as it was exactly the type of comedy I liked: witty, but pretending to be dumb and absurd. 1670 is just like that and maybe even a bit better. The show runners do not shy away from portraying polarising topics like casual racism and discrimination in a humorous way that first makes one laugh, but then find themselves in the show's characters and hopefully reflect a bit.
I also loved these nod to modern times they made (parking lots for horses, boat attendants telling the passengers about safety features etc.), they made us laugh every time. Hope Netflix doesn't close this one after a season or two like it loves to do.

The mockumentary comedy style has been popular since the UK version of "The Office", its American remake (one of the few successful American versions of an overseas TV show), and countless spin-offs.
"1670" is Poland's version of the mockumentary formula.
It takes a lot of the tropes from the genre: the arrogant but dimwitted main character, the slowly building romance that pays off at the end, enjoyable comic relief characters, lots of farcical humour, and plenty of direct-to-camera asides.
Jan Pawel Adamczewski (Bartlomiej Topa) - the head of a Szlachta noble family - is the David Brent/Michael Scott archetype: blessed with a healthy ego and oblivious to how stupid and useless he actually is. Not surprisingly, most of the jokes are at his expense, along with plenty of jokes about the quirks of living in 17th century Poland. Though those familiar with Polish history will probably need to leave their knowledge at the door.
The big drawback of this show is the American dubbing on Netflix. With the all-Polish cast speaking Polish, the dubbing feels unnatural at first, but you eventually get used to it. It's a shame Netflix didn't keep it in the original language with subtitles: perhaps they were worried a show in a foreign language wouldn't be as popular as one with American accents?
Despite this dubbing issues, "1670" is an enjoyable mockumentary that's worth investing your time in.
