Lisa Dwan in Blackshore (2024)

Decent murder drama mini series.

I've watched 5 out of 6 parts here and I'm really enjoying it. Nothing revolutionary it must be said but very solid throughout and I think Lisa Dwan is really on point as tough, ambitious, no nonsense DI Fia Lucey. The entire series is built around her character and she carries it off with aplomb. Looking forward to part 6. Perhaps the plot is a bit needlessly complex and it's hard to imagine a typical sleepy Irish town with so much happening beneath the surface. Still it has plenty of interesting characters on view and the finger of suspicion is shifting in many directions throughout. Bottom line, very decent series.

Very watchable.

After an angry act in a pub, Detective FIA Lucey is sent home to Blackshore to solve the murder of Roisin, the case unearths memories of her tragic past, where her father killed her family.

Episodes one and two were decent enough, it turns up a couple of notches in episode three, and just gets better and better, it truly turns into a fairly captivating show.

A very effective whodunnit, you're made to wait to learn the truth, my focus moved from person to person with every episode, I got it wrong.

It's very well written, plenty yo keep you engaged and intrigued, you have two mysteries, Roisin's death in present day, and the mystery of Fia's past.

Well acted, Lisa Dwan is great from start to finish, Fia isn't perhaps the most likeable Stanley Townsend and Aidan McArdle are excellent in support.

I'd love to see a second series.

8/10.

Did you plan on watching some Tarkowsky tonight? Really?))

I don't understand the hate toward the production. It's an evening cop show, to cook and eat your dinner over)). It's really solid - it's truly Irish, sorry for y'all Marvel fans out there, there's no haste, loads of sipping whiskey, yeah, and headstrong RECKLESS PASSIONATE ILLOGICAL characters - just like the real people out there))) Amazing cinematography, editing and music, great costume and production design puts you right there, in the rural back of this olde magnetic inexplicable country with stoic families, carrying generational trauma in silence and seemingly all them gorgeous landscapes - lakes, forests, meadows themselves are filled with dark secrets of the past.

Why hate on Ms. Dwan? Great performance - she's a GUARDA, people, not some sexy corporate lawyer or steaming under her hazmat cute pathology examiner)) Police are sorta hunting dogs if the regime, so they're intended to be rough, tough and a bit unnerving. Also also looks great in superskinny jeans and hipster variation of the biker leather jacket. I mean, loads of actors HAVE TO wear those, both on screen and irl, but very few have good proportions and measurements to really pull it off.

I didn't care much about the love life of the mme DI. You know what? It's actually GREAT, when there's NONE, dear screenwriters! Especially when the protagonist is physically attractive and mentally available. Family is one thing - dynamics, character arcs, good meaty stuff to propell the plot, to build the character. But sex for the sake of sex - even if it's something quirky, queer and such - oh please, c'mon, let's move on! Breaks the rhythm of the story and adds absolutely nothing.

Just muddies everything.

No need, really. We are all adults here, and we came to find the killer and give the silent victims of the crime justice. We can have a look at pretty naked people in other places and with way better outcome))))) I'd rather watch the next season of Blackshore, than another "kiss kiss bang bang" Bond movie or political thriller where everyone talks like they're all on speed and everyone bends everyone else over, sometimes just for the sake of it. I know about the corruption and all, but i want to eat my pizza in peace and down my wine without risks of misunderstanding the plot))) PS: the opening titles are just MARVELLOUS - simple, but very elegant visuals that pushes you towards the story immediately. And the opening theme song is sooooo sweet! It's not the greatest piece of folk rock you've ever heard - but it suits the story and supports the visuals in the same strong, but subtle manner. Looked up all i might - nothing. If anyone knows, I'd be delighted to learn the name of the artist, buy their music and maybe get a chance to see them live someday.

Truth will come out soon or later

Blackshore is one of the latest Irish TV Series that has been realased. If be honest I had very high hopes for this show after watching other recent Irish TV Shows such as The Woman in the Wall and The Vanishing Triangle. However, it was not what I was expected. Although this show is a decent one and the story is quite good, there are issues with acting. I do not know what other people think but I do not think that Lisa Dwan is fit for the role of Detective Fia. I did not like the way how she acts in this show. Nevertheless, the other actors are really good in particularly Stanley Townsted (Andor and The Spy). But still this series is a decent one and I give 6 over 10.

Very Good in Lots of Ways

This is really watchable and easy to get in to. Lisa Dwan is very watchable and carries off her role with enough panache to keep you interested.

The supporting cast are all pretty good and do their best with the convoluted plot line. The plot is full of twists and turns but ultimately feels like it's trying too hard to fill out each of the red herring plot deviations.

The last episode feels like it's been written by someone different to the first 5 episodes. It's all Over the place and quite a clumsy unbelievable ending to what had been a satisfying series up until then. I'd still rate it overall as a watchable 7!!

Irish Noir that is gripping from beginning to end

If you like Shetland or Scandi Noirs- This is the perfect follow up; Gripping from beginning to end, bingeworthy with plenty of cliffhangers and : A brilliant lead! Rough around the egdes with a past as any proper Detective or DI and then some, they couldn't have found a better actress for this character: Lisa Dwan lives and breathes female Garda Fi" who seems tough as nails, too tough for Dublin even, razor sharp wit and plenty of dark ghosts from the past- but as the story evolves we gte to learn teh reasons for this and a more vulnerable side- Love and trust, for her family, for those around her, that got blown by a shitgun twenty years ago and now unravle to eveal further plots nobody would have thought of.. she portrays such a vast range of emotions with so much rawness and passion and authenticity, that it's hard to believe she is somebody else outside of this. Brilliant actress! The chemistry and development between the lead Guarda (DI) and her rural sidekick are fascinating too. The suitably haunting sensitive gothic folk ditty for the intro: "We the Drowned " by Lisa Hannigan sets the mood for a murder chase that spans 20 years and generations in an Ireland far from American Leprechaun phantasies: Beautiful landscape and the lake as another protagonist under heavy grey skies, cover up the intrinsic network of a too- small community, where everybody is tied to everybody and an unspoken law of "Omerta" to rival the Sicilians- complete with Whiskey Lord who pulls the strings invisibly in a network of debt and guilt.. I hope we will see more of this !

Who knows what song sounds at the beginning of film series?

I really liked the song that sounds in the series' intro, but neither Shazam nor Google helped me find the author and title. This is probably some little-known Irish folk group. In case anyone knows her, I would be very grateful.

The series looks easy and has a pleasant aftertaste of Ireland. My family and I are literally hooked on Irish TV series. Good acting, beautiful Irish scenery and a pleasant little town. Sometimes you watch certain TV series because of the place where they are filmed.

The main character returns to her hometown, where she experienced a tragedy as a child and, through the work of a detective, tries to get to the bottom of the truth of what really happened.

Good but flawed

Excellent acting from top to bottom and it excellent first five episodes. A couple of plot conveniences verging on deus ex machina, combined with other parts of the plot falling into some too familiar territory, and a not altogether satisfying conclusion, mean the 6th and final episode is okay but a bit of a let down. Nonetheless, given the solid acting and writing for the first several episodes, fans of this sort of BBC crime show might want to check it out. Definitely worth watching

This is an enjoyable series that's definitely worth watching. Lisa Dwan delivers a great performance and looks fantastic in the show, and the general cast are very good too. Murder mystery & history in rural Ireland. Feels pretty authentic and whilst the plot is quite similar to others, it keeps one interested. If you're looking for a crime drama to watch on a winters evening then this does the trick. The theme music is a great bonus - must check out the artist. Major gripe is the choice of young girl to play Fi in the flashbacks. Looks nothing like a young Fi (Lisa). Apart from that - it's good.

Music is by Lisa Hannigan

I, too, found the opening and closing music to be haunting. There's a line in the credits that says the opening and closing themes are 'We, the Drowned' by Lisa Hannigan. Apple Music has three different versions.

About the series... it's very Irish and somewhat dark but very watchable. Lisa Dwan is very good. The plot is complex but not confusing in the end. Scenery is grand, as are the interiors of various homes and buildings.

All six episodes are on AcornTV (Summer 2025) so very bingeable.

I would absolutely recommend giving it a watch... since you can always bail out if it's not your taste.

Another depressing Irish drama

There are so many things wrong with this production. Clichés galore - incompetent local cops, local tycoon who's bribed everybody in town, clinically depressed, mood big city cop forced to return to her home town as a punishment, etc. Unnatural dialogue, uninteresting personal back-story, loads of over- and underacting at am-dram-level, washed-out colours (not even black & white, more grey & grey) what seems almost like fog in every indoor scene, no contrast low resolution images often out of focus, mumbling all around - the list goes on. If I were forced to say something positive about this doom-and-gloom-fest, it would be that it's not quite as bad as Kin or North Sea Connection. Which isn't saying much.

Some good cast hampered by a terrible script.

Two stars for the actors who tried to do a good job with this mess of a script. A Dublin detective screws up and is banished to her home town, where her family was murdered, that's a recipe for a disastrous plot. I like Irish movies and series, but this one is way below their normal quality. Who cast Lisa Dwan as the lead, she's terrible. There are really good actors like Rory Keenan and Aidan McArdle and then there is Lisa Dwan at the other end. Solving the murder of Roisin Hurley is enough of a plot without complicating it with Fia Lucey's family history. I realize that actors sometimes take any job because they have bills, I assume that's the case here.

Not even close...

Well, seen lots of crime series, and this has elements of plots we have seen before, but in this series it really does not work. It seems that the people making this thinks that this is kind of a groundbreaking way to bring you something outstanding. But thats my opinion. I must admit that it did not take long before i realised that this is way of in many ways

The one thing I liked the best is the bit when Fia tears a padlock apart like the most common thing in the world, topped by the same padlock is locked and fixed a bit later in the episode.

Well, keep away, it was not worth the time

See something goood.
