The story of the Mickenbecker family would not make it on any studio executives desk if it were not true. It is an utterly tragic story that has the potential of becoming a deeply depressing film. "Leben Ist Jetzt" avoids that trap through one simple recipe: hope. Even though one knows how sad the story continues in real life, one cannot help but share the life-affirming and positive outlook of the films heroes. Tears will be shed, but you will feel optimistic once the credits start rolling. A pretty remarkable feat by the filmmakers.

So even though the movie apparently has been through a lot in post production (a second director and a lot of dialogue that doesn't match the actors lips), the final result is convincing and enjoyable. Definitely 9/10!
