As Greta Gerwig's BARBIE demonstrated, we're culturally thirsty & ready for films from the female perspective! If you dig Amy Poehler/Tina Fey storytelling, then Honora Talbott's "B Word" is for YOU! Skewering our impossibly steep expectations of women, Talbott straddles our inner human motivations and societal programming on what makes us acceptable and valuable in others, and our own, eyes, and she does it with spot on dialogue and acting, filled with glorious awkward humanity, landing the comedy like a Schitt's Creek episode. There are pithy jokes worthy of lifelong repetition I'll never forget, and a lack of preciousness about Talbott's directing. In the words of the great Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, "we should all be feminists," and Talbott invites this viewpoint in the most humorous, non-preachy way. Honora is a filmmaker to watch, unstoppable in her disarming, self-deprecating charm her work so effectively conveys. Her sense of pace is well tuned and the entire ensemble looks like they had a spectacular time filming, because there is such a sensibility of PLAY! Highly recommend!
