Southern Fried Homicide

Being a southerner myself, I was intrigued by this one. The best thing about it however is the title. I was appalled at the southern belle drinking tea and commenting on the episodes. She may have sounded Southern, but had more of a caustic yankee commentary that truly destroys the entire southern charm thing! I was not surprised she was not back for the other seasons. People must have written in complaining! If I had TV when shows were actually new (we stream everything, so these are years old by the time they get to streaming!) then I would've written in to complain too! Yes, southern women can be catty or caustic as well. But that shouldn't be utilized on something as sensitive as murders, where families are grieving. I like this one better than the other 2 I've watched....but sadly that's not saying much.

Certainly Not Charming . . . .

While some of the crimes in this series are suitable ones for true crime episodes, this series is actually quite offensive in the way the stories are told. There is a Southern "hostess" of sorts who narrates the stories, supposedly giving a "Southern" tone to them, that may be suitable for fiction stories, but certainly is not for actual homicide stories. What she says at times is truly offensive. Her Southern charm is not charming.

Even worse are all the dramatizations where actresses are behaving like caricatures of those they are portraying. Their actions, the looks on their faces, their smiles are all exaggerated. Who in the world is behind this series? I'm watching it on Discovery +. I've seen three episodes and doubt I can go on. Is there an episode about Billie Joe MacAllister jumping off the Tallahatchie Bridge?

Making fun of tragedy

"Tougher than a 2 dollar steak." "Another southern fried helping of murder" and other corny tongue in cheek wit makes for a despicable presentation of real, heart wrenching tragedy. Making flashy, witty, funny entertainment out of real murders is nothing short of a sign of a failing society. Tactless shows like this really need to be rejected by viewers and sponsors. Real tragedy, and real death should be presented in only a forensic manner to teach others, and not "entertain " or humor them.

Producers of this trash harrassed the family of a murder victim, then made an episode against the family's expressed wishes

I realize there is an unavoidable element of scum in this world, but the way the producers of this trash repeatedly contacted the Shunick family to participate in the sensationalism and vulgar exploitation of their tragedy is beyond sickening- and the fact that they persisted on making the episode in spite of the family's pleas is beneath contempt.
