‘Hangman’ Adam Page on Facing Will Ospreay in the Owen Hart Finals and Connecting With Aew Fans: ‘People Believed In a Better Me Than I Did’
Image
For the better part of two years, “Hangman” Adam Page has been in a tailspin of destruction and self-loathing, but All Elite Wrestling’s once-“anxious millennial cowboy” is ready to write a new chapter. As a founding member of the Aew roster and a former World Champion, Page is no stranger to holding gold, but this year his path to victory in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament (culminating in a main-event match at Double or Nothing for a future title shot) is blocked by an opponent he’s never met one-on-one in the ring.

“This is the second year in a row I’ve made the finals. I’m proud of it this year, as I was last year. I’ll be wrestling Will Ospreay at Double or Nothing, and it’s one of those matches I’ve been waiting for. A lot of people would consider Ospreay to be the best wrestler alive,...

Does John Cena Have Any Tattoos? Real Reason Why The Champ Never Followed Most WWE Fighters Tradition
Image
John Cena was the face of the WWE for more than a decade, and his image of a ‘goody-two-shoes’ wrestler attracted kids to watch and support him. Cena always had the clean-cut good guy image inside and outside the ring. To many, he was the hero of the WWE.

Hence, he never followed up with having a tattoo. Most WWE stars do have tattoos (whether small or big), but Cena didn’t follow that tradition. He doesn’t have a single drop of ink anywhere on his body part despite once playing a character who was heavily tatted in a movie.

It is genuinely surprising that he doesn’t have one, considering who he shared locker rooms with.

After 20 Years, Booker T Makes His Feelings Clear About Vince McMahon Using the N-Word That Went Too Far
Image
The Hall of Fame recently featured Booker T and Brad Gilmore in an episode. The six-time world champion started the conversation on a very positive note with good energy. However, as the podcast continues, there is a segment where they watch a clip of the current Aew champion, Swerve Strickland.

It was an intentional part of the whole podcast, as Booker T wanted to address the whole situation as Swerve Strickland made some remarks about WWE that involved him as well.

Booker T doesn’t feel John Cena should compete for another WWE World Title | WWE

In the clip, Swerve Strickland was asked about his opinions on Booker T, saying he was treated fairly in WWE for 20 years. This is one Swerve made negative remarks about Vince McMahon and subtly accused him of racism, as he mentioned a storyline, where Vince McMahon said, N-word to Booker T.

Vince McMahon Told “I don’t care who you are” to Shaquille O’Neal to Get the Hell Out in a Tensed WWE Backstage Moment
Image
Vince McMahon does not care who you are, if he wants to remove you from WWE he will chase you out, by hook or by crook. Something similar happened to NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal when he entered WWE’s backstage without a pass.

While Shaq’s WWE appearances in 2009 and 2016 are widely known, his lesser-known 1998 feud with former WWE CEO Vince McMahon stands out. The clash reportedly began when McMahon demanded Shaq to “get the hell out” of the arena as he failed to show a backstage pass during his visit to a WWE match.

Let’s find out what actually happened between these two mammoths of American sports.

Why Vince McMahon didn’t want Shaquille O’Neal inside the WWE arena Shaquille O’Neal | credit- NBA

The story unfolds during a period when Shaq had just earned his sixth NBA All-Star title and decided to attend a wrestling match for some entertainment.

Fortnite’s Item Shop Was Once Fairly Priced Before Greedy Cash Grab Tactics Took Over
Image
It is no secret that a large part of Fortnite’s success can be attributed to its successful deployment of microtransactions. These microtransactions are offered in the form of multiple cosmetics (such as skins) that can be purchased against a set amount of ‘V-Bucks’, which can be brought with real-world money.

This has been in practice since the early days of Fortnite, and is something the player base has gotten used to over the years. Things have drastically changed in recent times though – with the Item Shop turning out to be downright predatory at times, marking itself as nothing more than a cash grab.

A recent post on the r/FortNiteBR subreddit has gone viral, seemingly ‘thanking’ Epic Games for not selling skins individually, and instead packing them into a bundle. This...

Fortnite’s Leaked Wrestlers Season Suggests a WWE Takeover and James Bond Could Be Part of the Action
Image
Fortnite featured a tower defense looter shooter gameplay loop prior to the battle royale mode’s explosive growth in popularity during Chapter 1. Since then, the game has collaborated with hundreds of popular characters, including Rick Sanchez, Captain America, John Wick, and many more. As the current season, Chapter 6 Season 1, has its own offerings, there doesn’t appear to be any indication that these crossover sprees will stop.

In light of Epic Games’ ongoing addition of well-known IPs to its game, a number of fans have expressed their preferences for future characters. , According to a recent leak, the addition of James Bond 007 to Fortnite in a future season may be the result of popular demand. Not only that, fans might be surprised with the theme of the new season as well.

10 Things WWE Fans Can Expect When Raw Debuts on Netflix
Image
In what will be one of the biggest moments in professional wrestling history, January 2025 will see the WWE moving Monday Night Raw to Netflix as part of what appears to be a full migration to the world's biggest streaming service. The company's flagship show will become entirely global as of January 6th and looks set to start an entirely new era. This media partnership will be integral to WWE as they do their best to maximize their global reputation while the company keeps distancing itself from the previous owner Vince McMahon, whose recents trials have been a (small) subject of Netflix's recent WWE documentary, Mr. McMahon.

The move to Netflix is an exciting prospect for fans, as WWE has hit a creative zenith not seen in decades. Through long-term stories such as The Bloodline and Cm Punk's life-long quest to headline WrestleMania, a women's division that is boosted by...

Kevin Smith returns to his roots (again) for teen-centric The 4:30 Movie
Image
Once an indie underdog, Kevin Smith has, in middle age, devoted himself to making what critics and fans alike might characterize as glorified, self-referential home movies, cast with friends and family members and filled with callbacks, in-jokes, and the same familiar anxieties about friendship, romance, and growing up. This is not an original observation.

Fantasia 2024: ‘Dark Match’ Review
Image
Stars: Ayisha Issa, Steven Ogg, Chris Jericho, Sara Canning, Michael Eklund, Jonathan Cherry, Leo Fafard, Skene Kittle, Damian Chao, Stephanie Wolfe | Written and Directed by Lowell Dean

There’s actually been a few wrestling-themed horror movies but the quality has been somewhat lacking. From Wrestlers vs Zombies to Wrestlemaniac to Parts Unknown to Wrestlemassacre. At best, these have been somewhat average, so could Dark Match buck the trend and actually blend horror and wrestling and still be entertaining?!

In Dark Match, a small-time wrestling company in the eighties accept a well-paid booking in a backwoods town, only to realise too late that it is run by a cult leader with devious plans. On the face of things, that doesn’t sound like the story for a great movie but Dark Match might just surprise you.

Right off the bat, we are introduced to the wrestling companies show. If you have...

America's Sweethearts Is So Much More Than Just Hot Cheerleaders in Dallas
Image
Quick Links What Is America's Sweethearts About? America's Sweethearts Are Part of an Elite Sisterhood Big Fame But Not Big Pay Victoria's Troubles Sexual Assault and Other Crimes

The perfectly coiffed hair. The skimpy uniforms. The pom-poms. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders make it look easy. But the Netflix docuseries America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders proves that the women putting everything on the line so they can be part of the squad are much more than pretty faces and hot bodies. In fact, they're athletes whose blood, sweat, and tears all go into making their cheerleading team the best in all of sports.

That's what America's Sweethearts is all about. The show talks about the joys of being part of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (or Dcc), including the sisterhood that comes with it. But it also touches on the lows of being part of the squad, including hard work for low pay,...

The ‘America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ Trailer Proves Those Jump-Splits Take a Toll
Image
Are you optimistic about the Dallas Cowboys 2024 NFL season? Well, recent history suggests you probably shouldn’t be. (Giants fan over here.) But there is something exciting leading in to the summer’s training camp: a new cheerleading docuseries from director Greg Whiteley, the man behind Netflix’s “Cheer” and “Last Chance U.”

“America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” a collection of seven 45-minute episodes, will follow the 2023-24 squad (last season’s team) from start to finish — meaning from their auditions to the team’s inevitable late-regular-season or early-post-season collapse. The cheerleaders are led by their longtime director Kelli Finglass.

The docuseries, which is definitely not “Cheer” Season 3 (except it definitely should be), premieres on June 20 on Netflix.

Whiteley executive produces alongside Adam Leibowitz for One Potato Productions; Andrew Fried and Dane Lillegard of Boardwalk Pictures and Ross M. Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans of Campfire Studios also executive produce for their respective companies.

Stephen Amell's Heels Reportedly Sets Netflix Premiere Date
Image
The pro wrestling series Heels is making its way to Netflix this summer following a two-season run on Starz. A Netflix premiere date has been revealed for the series, and if it finds a big enough audience on the streaming platform, then Season 3 is a very real possibility.

Per PWInsider, Heels will start streaming on Netflix on July 29, 2024, though this date hasn't been officially announced by the streamer at this time. Both seasons of the series will be streaming together, allowing fans and newcomers to the show to binge-watch every episode. In April, it was reported that Netflix had acquired non-exclusive rights to stream the show, and that the company was open to reviving Heels with a potential third season. Of course, that will depend upon Heels drawing in high enough viewership to justify the revival.

“I’m very, very sorry for my mistake”: Why John Cena Had to Apologize to China
Image
The perks of adulation and superstardom that are expected by-products of being a Hollywood celebrity can also sometimes boomerang back to bite one in the face. Wrestling champion-turned-actor John Cena has been on the receiving end of both extremes. As a bonafide action star with commercial blockbusters to his name, Cena has a massive fan base of sports and movie fans.

On the other hand, the Peacemaker actor has also courted controversy through his comments that have attracted some negative publicity. A few years ago during the promotions of F9, Cena got into a politically sticky situation with China following his references to Taiwan, and ended up having to rectify this error.

The Iron Claw: Zac Efron's Wrestling Drama Debuts With Impressive Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
The critics are loving The Iron Claw, even if it's leaving them as a blithering mess by the end of it.

Written and directed by Sean Durkin, The Iron Claw explores the tragic, real-life story of pro wrestling's famous Von Erich family. Zac Efron leads the cast as wrestling legend Kevin Von Erich, supported by Jeremy Allen White and Harris Dickinson playing his brothers and fellow pro wrestlers. It's not opening wide until Dec. 22, but with its early reviews at Rotten Tomatoes, the film has debuted with an approval rating of 91%. The overwhelming majority of the critics are giving very high praise to the film, giving credit to the entire cast along with Durkin's presentation of the "gripping" story.

Netflix Didn’t Offer Data Transparency Because of ‘Promise with Creators,’ Ted Sarandos Says
Image
Netflix recently promised more data transparency for creators — which, according to Netflix, is also the community it previously shielded from the numbers.

“Part of our reason for not publishing (viewership data) early was part of our promise with creators,” Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos said during its October 18 earnings call. “At the time we started creating original programs, our creators felt like they were pretty trapped in this kind of overnight ratings world and weekend box-office world defining their success and failures. And as we all know, a show might have enormous success down the road and it wasn’t captured in that opening box office.”

For years, Netflix famously did not share viewership metrics. Executives like Sarandos would also diss TV-ratings currency company Nielsen’s ability to measure programming, including Netflix’s. The two companies are now measurement partners on certain initiatives.

In early Summer 2021, Netflix began posting its own...

Max Was Pretty Mid This Summer
Image
Perhaps Max should have stayed HBO Max after all.

Amid a pretty lukewarm summer for streaming, one popular service stood out for all the wrong reasons. Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max disproportionally declined in terms of penetration and usage, a new study has found. And oh yeah, the platform had no new hit series — or even new hit season — during the third quarter of 2023.

Max was the only platform of the eight major streamers to see its percentage of daily users decline from Q2 to Q3, data analytics firm HarrisX found. Max usage slowed down across every age group, including a pretty big drop among 18 to 24-year-olds. Uh-oh, they’re the future.

AT&T dropping the inclusion of Max from some of its legacy broadband plans certainly did not help. Nor are continued macroeconomic pressures — those, of course, are not unique to Max. And soon, the clogging of development pipelines due...

Leila Grey Interview: Netflix's Wrestlers & Aew
Image
Wrestlers documentary series on Netflix focuses on Ohio Valley Wrestling (Ovw) and the behind-the-scenes struggles faced by CEO Al Snow and his team. Ovw hopes that the show will bring attention and turn their fortunes around, and the response so far has been overwhelmingly positive from both wrestling and non-wrestling fans. Leila Grey, a member of Aew and Ovw, discusses her experience on the show, working with Aew superstar Jade Cargill, and her goals in Aew as a standalone character.

Leila Grey is a member of the All Elite Wrestling roster, but she's also part of Ohio Valley Wrestling, which is the focus of the new Netflix documentary series, Wrestlers.

In Wrestlers, CEO and head of creative Al Snow copes with the pressures of booking his local Kentucky pro wrestling promotion, Ovw, which has a live weekly television show. Along with a rowdy locker room of wrestlers including Ovw Champion Mahabali Shera,...

For the Stars of Netflix’s Wrestlers, Timing is Everything
Image
Nestled away in what looks to be a warehouse district in Louisville, Ky is the Davis Arena. It might not look like much, but the sign outside of the door suggests otherwise:

“Tomorrow’s Superstars, Today!”

This is the home of Ohio Valley Wrestling, what I affectionately like to call the “little promotion that could.” It is also the subject of the powerful, hard-hitting new Netflix docu-series, Wrestlers, which follows the men and women in this struggling developmental territory. They are the future stars of professional wrestling, many of them. All of them have that dream. But to accomplish it, they must first make their name and prove themselves. And that happens in places like Ovw. Unfortunately, times are tough for the company. No longer a breeding ground for the main roster stars of WWE, Ovw is going through a turbulent stretch with new owner Matt Jones, who often conflicts with 60-year-old wrestling legend,...

Netflix’s Wrestlers TV Review
Image
Plot: A group of underdog wrestlers try to make the big time.

Review: When people think of professional wrestling, they imagine the glitz and polish of the WWE, which has dominated the landscape for decades. Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler put a spotlight on what is the reality for most wrestlers out there, and that is the struggle they face to remain part of this business, to make money in it, to reconcile this grueling profession with their personal lives and individual demons. Netflix’s Wrestlers, a new docu-series from Emmy-winning filmmaker Greg Whiteley, has captured the everyday drama and struggle of professional wrestling in a way that has never been done before.

The series centers on Ohio Valley Wrestling. Chances are you’ve never heard of it. As someone who has grown up with professional wrestling, been in the ring a bit, and basically loves it with every fiber of my being,...

‘Wrestlers’ (2023) Review/Recap: A Nostalgia-Heavy Series About Wrestlers Trying To Find A Foothold Again

Sports drama documentaries have had a resurgence in recent times. Netflix has released countless documentary series and movies in this genre to help people understand the amount of training, time, and investment that goes into making this one athlete or team world-famous. Introduction

The Ohio Valley Wrestling Gym, also known as Ovw, is run by ex-WWE fighter Al Snow, whose real name is Allen Ray Sarven. Netflix Docuseries ‘Wrestlers’ Follows Up ‘Cheer’ With a (Body) Slam Dunk: TV Review
Image
Everyone loves an underdog, but it’s possible nobody loves one more than Greg Whiteley. With Netflix hits “Cheer” and “Last Chance U,” the documentarian trained his eye on undergraduate athletes whose programs lack the resources or respect of a Big Ten institution. Each show made a compelling case for its subjects’ skill, tenacity and right to a bigger spotlight; “Cheer,” in particular, made stars of its protagonists, a charismatic squad of Texas students who performed death-defying stunts with a smile.

The second season of “Cheer” was forced to reckon with the fallout of its own success, taking some focus away from its namesake sport to address squad member Jerry Harris’ being sentenced to prison for soliciting sex from minors, as well as coach Monica Aldama’s stint on “Dancing With the Stars” and the uncomfortable transition from challenger to heavy favorite. Thankfully, Whiteley’s latest effort offers a fresh start.
