Exclusive: French director Vincent Maël Cardona makes his Cannes Official Selection debut with huis-clos thriller No One Will Know, which premieres as a Midnight Screening.

The drama revolves around the clients and staff of the fictitious Le Roi Soleil café in the Paris periphery who unwittingly assist in the killing of an elderly regular just after he discovers he has won €294 million ($320M) in the lottery.

With the life-changing sum in their sights if not their grasp, the disparate group battle with their consciences and one another as they figure out a way to explain the death, as well as whether and how to take possession of the prize.

“They have to agree on a scenario, a fiction and a way of recounting what happened, which is not what happened, in a convincing manner, that stands up to scrutiny,” says Cardona. “They’re doing the work of a screenwriter.”

Exclusive: Studiocanal has revealed a first image for Vincent Maël Cardona’s tense behind-closed-doors thriller No One Will Know as it launches sales on the title at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris this week.

The huis close follows the clients and bar staff of a shabby cafe outside Paris in the early hours of the morning, who enter into a deadly pact when an elderly regular comes in and wins €294 million in the lottery.

Cardona has gathered a high-profile ensemble cast featuring Pio Marmaï (The Three Musketeers duology and The Ties That Bind Us), Sofiane Zermani (Hunting With Tigers), Panayotis Pascot (Loup Garous), Lucie Zhang and Joseph Olivennes (Magnetic Beats).

They are joined by Pulp Fiction star Maria de Meideros as the bar’s tough-talking, streetwise, eccentric landlady who stumbles in on the dangerous plan, which ultimately send all the participants on a bloody downward spiral.

The French thriller Hunting with Tigers, which just dropped on Prime Video, is an unnecessarily confusing movie. It has a convoluted plot for no valid reason whatsoever. It doesn’t qualify as a gritty crime drama that could bring award glory, and it also lacks in terms of pulpiness.
