Straight after watching it I had to write this review. First, Ferreira was amazing in this, and indeed all the actors were great. Really film was about a woman who was abandoned as a child by her mother, and raised by an uncaring and selfish father. She gets by, but is lonely. On the internet she meets a guy with the same name as her father, and he shows her platonic love.
I loved the original story, and the demonstration of caring between people who are all suffering with their own problems. A beautifully crafted film. Nice cinematography, beautifullly emotive. Such a touching film and for me a real gem. While sad, it shows a real positive aspect to humam hearts. Please watch this, it's great.

Ah, look at all the lonely people.
As I watched the new film, Bob Trevino Likes It, I was reminded of that Beatles classic about loneliness and depression. Almost every character in the film is experiencing some form of sadness. Yet, it's not a depressing film because the characters are particularly likeable, even at their lowest points. You connect with them on a personal level. You want them to be happy.
The film is based on the life of Writer/Director/Producer Tracie Laymon and the friendship she accidentally strikes up with a stranger on the internet. Yes, the idea sounds creepy, but the relationship Lily Trevino has with her actual father is far more disturbing. Turning in a beautiful, hopeful performance, actress Barbie Ferreira is always reminded that she's not the child her father wanted. Robert Trevino (French Stewart) seems to have little use for her. He's far more interested in her savings account to pay for his bills and uses her to butter up his stream of online hookups.
Dragging her along to dinners and events, he tells her to make him look good. Robert wants a relationship because he's 'tired of paying to watch women eat'. Yes, he's a very unlikeable person who doesn't realize how awful he sounds. Even when he's the one chintzing out at mealtime, forgetting his wallet, suggesting his dinner dates order something cheaper. He doesn't understand what he's doing wrong and Lily doesn't have the heart to tell him how bad he makes himself look. Instead, she takes the blame for all his dating failures.
When Robert angrily cuts her out of his life for a mishap at a dinner date, Lily still attempts to reconcile with him, but is faced with his indifference. A few weeks later, she again decides to try to reach him, this time through social media. She friends a 'Bob Trevino' on Facebook. However, it's the wrong Bob Trevino - it's not her dad, Robert.
This Bob Trevino (John Leguizamo) is a kind, hardworking man, married to Jeanie (Rachel Bay Jones), the scrapbooking Queen of the state. Though they live in the same home, it's apparent that they have difficulty communicating with each other. There's a pervasive sadness in the home. Jeanie tries to get him to socialize with friends, he doesn't see the use in it. Then, out of the blue, Bob sees a notification on his Facebook page that someone wants to friend him, has 'liked' one of his rare posts. He accepts, begins 'liking' Lily's posts, and eventually he and Lily strike up a social media friendship.
At Lily's suggestion, they eventually meet and pursue the friendship, in real life. Though they are both emotionally blunted, they find a warm companionship with each other. There are no expectations. They have no past trauma with each other to dwell on, little to forgive and forget.
There's nothing creepy about it. Just two lonely people, filling in the holes that life has hollowed out in their souls. Lily enjoys taking care of people and Bob allows her to get close to him. And then, Bob drops out of sight. She feels ghosted and goes searching for an explanation.
Many times, social media divides and isolates; in the case of Bob Trevino Likes It, social media allows two lonely strangers a means to connect, if only for a brief time.

One of those you don't except anything and you're going out from the movie theatre with such a mixed feeling. But not a mix of positive and negative but mix of laughter and emotional crying. It started almost ridiculously funny and ended with such A burst of emotions.
It's not so common old story of a girl with daddy issues. She has no mother and with that kind of father she has, she probably would have better without. She is the Politest young woman you can think of and seems like nothing is bothering her, towards her environment, but inside, she is a volcano Waiting to erupt.
Once Lilly, the protagonist and movie's main character, finds herself an internet friend, that becomes kind of substitute dad, it seems a little bit odd. But both Barbie Ferreira and John Leguizamo makes it feel so authentic and real, that it is like the story slides into the audience hearts so easily and naturally.
This story is based on a true story of Tracie Laymon, the director of this movie. It is well shown when the movie is directed in an intimate and very personal way. It seems that Laymon really put her heart in this project. It is her debut as a director with a full featured movie and if this is her first milestone in the industry, we can except great things and future from this marvelous creator.
The chemistry between Leguizamo and Ferreira is special. It is something that we don't usually see in other movies. Its not perfect, but both actors do such a good job to patch things up and make it work. Its all authentic and so moving when both actors meet and just enjoy their time together. It easily breaks walls or cinematic curtains and leaks to the audience.
I'm not watching "Euphoria" and don't really remember Barbie Ferreira from "Nope" (she actually had a small part in this movie), but in this current movie, she is has just melted my heart. Leguizamo is at one of his best parts ever and both, as mentioned earlier, make this story sell and work almost perfectly, to create one of the surprising movies lately.

When I describe the plot of Bob Trevino Like It, I feel like I'm describing a proverbial Hallmark movie. However, there's zero cheese and no romance which is great.
The movie is based on the writer and director's real life experience. During a period when her father refused to talk to her, the protagonist searches for her father on Facebook. Send ends up sending a friend request to another man with the same name as her father. He begins to like her posts. Though she quickly realizes he is not her actual father, he innocently befriends her and this friendship ends up transforming her life.
As mentioned, there's no romance in this movie. This turns out to be great for this film. Romance is obviously one of the most emotional aspects of most of our lives which is why so many films include it. But a large part of our lives doesn't involve romance. So, it's great to see a film which doesn't feel compelled to go that route. It's also great for a film to depict a deep and meaningful friendship between and man and woman without it being sexual.
I'm not an expert, but I couldn't find anything to criticize about the movie. I thought it so good that it is only the 4th film I've ever rated 10/10.

I will not post any spoiler details but as a creative, a writer And fan of films this will be seen as a perfect movie. This movie will encompass the human condition through the main character in a swift masterful journey of self growth and resilience through bittersweet circumstances.
I will be the first to claim it will be oscar worthy out the gate and one of the best films of the decade.
I truly loved the whole cast's performances as an assemble . When this Film drops I implore you all to rush to see it.
I will state it is a universally relatable film due to how anyone watching will feel the humanity in it.

Tracie Laymon's 2024 film: Bob Trevino Likes It is garnering much recognition. It continues her narratives in how the human emotions invested within social media. It's a reminder of societal dependency on social media which for some users is a lifeline.
There's many aspects that make this comedy drama work, from good story telling to great performances. Brazilian American actor, Barbie Ferreira is excellent as a traumatized young woman. As the characters of Bob Trevino, John Leguizamo and French Stewart contributed major characterization of the film's only male figures.
Laymon wove the story with careful detailing of actors' performances to rural location shots. This combination brings out the disparity of the main character, Lily Trevino (Ferreira). Even how the topic of social media being a big part of that character reaching out for help.
Ferreira is truly a break out performer, leaving film goers excited to see what future cinematic opportunities lie for this Latinx actor! As far as Laymon, their directorial chops are strong and steady!

What started out as a little cringe in the beginning, evolved into one of the most heartfelt emotional movies I've ever seen in my life. I was openly sobbing and I couldn't hold it in. I was watching with a friend and usually I can hold in emotions but man, I couldn't this time.
I LOVED THIS MOVIE. I felt the acting and performance of the lead woman on a deep level. I believed everything. I mean you need to watch this from start to finish and don't stop. It will get you. You will feel it in your bones by the end. What a pleasant surprise this movei was.
It's about loneliness, human kindness and compassion for others.

"Bob Trevino Likes It" surprised me. I was drawn to it because I like John Leguizamo's work. He's really stellar as a working class man with manifold layers; a man isolated by grief, work, and his own inhibitions. Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria) is exceptional as Lily, a lost and lonely soul, aching for connection, lacking in confidence. The depth of compassion that is forged between these two characters draws the viewer in from the beginning. Its development ensures the viewer will want to see how and if their bond will continue.
This film has an excellent cast, a wonderfully original screenplay, and isbeautifully acted. It's emotional without being sentimental. The main characters have serendipitous chemistry. The supporting cast are equally strong and important to plot development and thematic elements. It's moving, quirky, funny, and clever.
People are rarely what the appear to be from the outside & "Bob Trevino Likes It" reveals this theme, among others, with aplomb. Recommend!

Coming-of-Age movies have been the most consistent sub-genre in Hollywood for quite a while now. Even the less high quality ones have been fairly decent and solid movies for the most part. And that's what 'Bob Trevino Likes It' was for me. I didn't love it, but it still had a lot of good stuff going for it.
I think what hurt it the most for me was that it wasn't as charming as I've come to expect from these films. There weren't the laughs I have come to expect and for that reason it felt like an entire key element of the film was missing.
What the film could do very well though was tug at your heart-strings. Time and again it found a way to hit you right in the right spot.
I love the fact that this was based on a true story because it shows that there really is good and good people out there if you look hard enough. 6/10.

Bob Trevino Likes It deservedly won Best Narrative at SXSW, had full houses going on five showings. This film was one of the most life affirming I've seen in a while what with honest performances, a nuanced script that balanced laughs with sobbing (yep, the good kind). Diretor Laymon brings us a story steeped in the modern world of social media yet at the same time providing the audience the unrelenting power of human connection. Gloriously graceful and smart, Bob Trevino Likes It is a refreshing character study that rewards the audience by eschewing cheap gags and crass dialogue in service of masterful storytelling. A trumph!!!
In emotional drama "Bob Trevino Likes It" lonely people-pleaser Barbie Ferreira (excellent) tries healing her broken relationship with deadbeat dad French Stewart (great) by reaching out to him on Facebook, connecting instead with John Leguizamo (with his own issues) who shares Stewart's name - and they strike up a friendship that helps them both. Tho debut writer / director Tracie Laymon simplifies & exaggerates almost every aspect of her auto-biographical screenplay it's still a warm, effective, and touching film - not least due to the fine performances Laymon elicits, esp from Ferreira, Stewart, & Leguizamo but also from Lauren Lolo Spencer in support.

I have been teaching film for almost 30 years, and this is one of the best films I have ever seen. Filmmaker Tracie Laymon creates a truly heartfelt story and film with characters and emotions that are real and deeply felt by the viewer. She also sprinkles in moments of delightful comedy to keep the film real and varied, after all, life has sad moments and funny moments. She is also helped by a wonderful cast (especially Barbie Ferreira and John Leguizamo) who, like their director/screenwriter, are telling this story from their hearts and have wonderful chemistry on screen. I also appreciated how Tracie didn't fall into typical movie tropes that you might see in a film of this type (sorry, no spoiler alerts!). This is also a reason I love Indie films so much, they are simple, personal stories that tug at our hearts rather than our visual senses like so many blockbuster movies do today. Once released and distributed, I will absolutely add this film to my curriculum. It is a perfect example of filmmaking and storytelling at its best, and I can't wait to see it again and share it with my students! Absolutely beautiful film!!
The little 2024 film that could, earning a raft of audience and critical praise as well as a large collection of festival awards at some of the industries premiere events, one suspects that the life of Tracie Laymon's debut feature Bob Trevino Likes It is only just beginning as more audiences discover this based on a true story tale for themselves.
Based on Laymon's own personal experiences after meeting with an online contact while searching for a connection with her real life father, Trevino clearly comes from heartfelt place and while it walks the same path of many similar low-budget character driven films of the past, it's hard not to be moved and inspired by this small but effective offering that is worked brilliantly by its two leads.
Finally getting a chance to test herself in the feature film landscape after making her mark in hit HBO series Euphoria, a lot of Trevino's success rests on the shoulders of Barbie Ferreira and she is more than up for the task.
A tricky role for any performer to deliver on, with Lily being a complex and flawed iteration of Laymon's own-self, Ferreira does a fantastic job of keeping Lily on the right side of the ledger while at the same time creating a memorable chemistry with her off-sider John Leguizamo who is as good as his been in years as the softly spoken and kind-hearted Bob, reminding us all that when he is given the right material and he himself invests, he's one of Hollywood's most reliable character actors.
With her two leads on fine form there's any easy-going nature and feel to Trevino yet while viewers may feel as though they have everything pegged as the early stages march on, Laymon has some tricks up her sleeve with where Trevino goes and how it goes there, creating an emotionally resonate and powerful watching experience that is sure to surprise many unsuspecting viewers unaware of what Trevino has too say about life, love, friendship and finding ones way in this big scary world.
In a day and age where small independent films like Trevino feel like a dying breed as they are forced into fighting for space in cinemas or standing out in crowded streaming marketplaces, Laymon's relatable and humanly focussed dramedy isn't a revelatory experience but its a timely reminder of the power of films of this shape and size.
Final Say -
Sure to discover a wide-reaching and passionate fanbase as a larger audience accesses the film on home media, Bob Trevino Likes It is a heartfelt and heart-warming little tale that features two fine central performances anchoring proceedings.

A sweet, genuinely funny movie about the impact a friendship can have on lives. Tracie Laymon's film, inspired by her own experiences, is the kind of story indie movies were made to tell: character-driven, rooted in real emotion, and life-affirming. And again, it's really funny!
The cast is phenomenal. Barbie Ferreira is the standout, an extraordinary, layered performance, but John Leguizamo is pitch perfect as a kind man making an unexpected friend. French Stewart shows a side many haven't seen from him before, as a narcissistic, neglectful dad, but even within that role, his comic instincts mine hilarious moments. Rachel Bay Jones and Lauren 'Lolo' Spencer round the film out with really excellent turns.
I saw this at Seattle International Film Festival, and the packed crowd laughed and sniffled through tears, then gave Laymon a standing ovation. I hope it finds distribution soon!

I don't watch a lot of independently produced films, but I caught this one at the Nashville film festival last year and loved it. Now that it's been officially released, it was my pleasure to watch it again. With a perfect blend of humor and pathos, 'Bob Trevino Likes It' is a heartwarming tribute to the life-changing power of friendship. The acting was great across the board, but at the very least this movie needs an Oscar nod for Barbie Ferreira's phenomenal performance. And for whatever reason, the foley stood out to me as especially exceptional. If you find this movie playing in your city, you should definitely check it out.

I went and saw this movie today without knowing anything about the movie. Sometimes you have to take a chance and I'm really glad I did. A nice movie about loneliness in different forms. It really touched me. If you think about it, there are periods in life where you feel alone, abandoned or in your sadness. Our digital world has helped with that in different ways. Both falling into loneliness and also getting out of your loneliness. The movie gave many thoughts about a lot. There is hope for everyone. I think it is a jewel of a movie. See the movie if you can. So worth seeing. All about loneliness, tears, hope, joy and happiness.
I was able to watch this movie during SIFF (Seattle International Film Festival). I went in without seeing the trailer or reading the synopsis and it turned out to be my absolute favorite from the festival! I laughed a lot, cried a little and walked out with a full heart. It's a beautiful film sharing the complexities of our relationships and has stayed with me ever since. Hopefully this film will be available more broadly. If you get the chance, go see it, it will make your day (at a minimum). I will definitely see it again. Thank you Tracie Laymon for bringing your story and this film to life! Bravo!
I had heard all the festival buzz about Bob Trevino Likes It, so I jumped at the chance to see it at RIFF last Friday. You immediately connect with our heroine, who displays her people-pleasing ways with a sweetly broken earnestness. Then you see how she got that way, with a father who is present only physically (French Stewart impressively showing the darkness behind his affable demeanor.) So, you root for her when she finds a pure and wholesome connection, and what seems like a movie about that connection becomes so much more, with a gut-punch conclusion that had the whole audience in tears. Great performances, writing and message. Go see!
Bob Trevino Likes It (2025) is one of the best and most emotional movies of 2025 so far.
Positives for Bob Trevino Likes It (2025): This movie does a great job at capturing the lives of people who are trying to look for friends and form strong relationship between the individuals. The two lead performances from Barbie Ferreira and John Leguizamo are phenomenal. Barbie Ferreira is one of those newcomers who I'm still new to and is on the rise to superstardom in Hollywood and I look forward to seeing what she does next. John Leguizamo is a guy who I know for his work in comedy and I'm shocked that he hasn't done more dramatic roles like this because he was amazing. This movie is basically a love letter to people looking for friends and forming bonds with the people they meet in their lives. There are moments that had me on the verge of tears because of how powerful they are. And finally, this is a movie that has a lot of rewatch factor to it.
Overall, Bob Trevino Likes It (2025) is a emotionally roller coaster of a movie and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Shows the power of kindness and how it can change lives!
We went watch the movie last night and I was able to get 8 folks to join us!
First off I think it was an incredibly brave thing for Tracy to do. I'm not really an artist and I understand that real art is being super open and baring your soul. Especially a story like this. BRAVE!
I think it was so well done. It really captures real people and the actors really crushed it(which means the director/writer did a wonderful job)
And I think the story will super resonate with so many people who have had some struggle in their lives. It needed to be made.
All the folks who came last night with us literally did several group hugs after watching. It's very powerful and thanks for sharing with the world!

While many films simply exist to entertain or educate, when was the last time a movie truly moved you? It's this noble MIA concept that the 10-star indie outing "Bob Trevino Likes It" has in spades and thankfully never stops delivering. Writer/Director Tracie Laymon creates a weird and wonderful platonic relationship between a emotionally damaged young girl and an equally apathetic older man (played with layered perfection by Barbie Ferreira and John Leguizamo) that produces the most unusual and endearing odd couple of recent years.
Captivating from star to finish, never afraid to tackle the hard subjects with honesty and unpredictably askew, "Bob Trevino Likes It" is a rare film that makes you feel.

From beginning to end, Bob Trevino Likes It took me on a wonderful journey at the SXSW premier. I cannot recall a film that gently coaxed me to let go and feel for 120 minutes. This is a brilliant bit of writing as humor always arrived to cradle the emotional moments.
The humanity among these characters is revealed in a beautiful way. We are all these characters at some point in our lives - and like these characters, we grow, we adapt, and we love the people who are family, and chosen family.
At the end of this movie, my heart felt fulfilled. Bob Trevino Likes It should win many awards. Writer and Director Tracie Laymon has entwined her creativity and values in this script. The industry needed this movie! I highly recommend it.

What an incredibly powerful and beautiful story that anyone can relate to! The performances and story pull you in and makes you feel the story to the point you forget you're watching a movie and just experiencing it. John Leguizamo and Barbie farriera's connection is beautiful and complimented with writer director Tracie Laymon's direction to capture it all. Highly recommend this movie to anyone who feels lost because this movie has a community that tells you you're not alone because you're not! Congratulations to the team and thank you for such an impactful movie! Family isn't only blood, you can choose it too.
Randomly been checking what's new and accidentally started watching this movie. I haven't heard anything about it and that's such a big loss for viewers - that's truly grail that made me speechless and crying (in a very positive way).
That might be too indie for some people but the deepness and its courage are pure masterpiece. That's very rare case when I put 10 score here but I truly find it as the best movie released in years.
Actors, plot and everyone involved to this movie - the highest respect. You had such a magic synergy that worked so well. Truly hope it will be a booster for your carriers. That's a big movie for sure and I wish more people will watch it and it will make them think about their lives as it made me.
