A Movie that is Worth Watching

Abraham Ozler is a Malayalam suspense thriller movie directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas. The film, which stars Jayaram as ACP Thrissur. The movie follows Thrissur as he investigates a series of strange murders in his city. Each murder has a special clue left behind by the killer.

People really liked the actors in this movie. Jayaram does a great job showing how stressed and sad his character is, because of both the murders and something bad that happened in his own life. The other actors, like Arjun Ashokan and Anoop Menon, also play important roles in the story.

Abraham Ozler might not be a totally brand new kind of movie, but it's still exciting and well-made. It mixes together medical mystery and a sad crime story, which keeps you guessing. Overall, it's a good movie to watch!

And it seems like this movie is a big success and a comeback for Jayaram in Malayalam movies again.

"Abraham Ozler lacks the Punch"

The film ' Abraham Ozler ' directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas starring Jayaram , Jagdish , Anaswara etc.. was one of my highly anticipated films of the year and that might be the reason for me getting slightly disappointed after watching the film. It's a Medical Crime Thriller which is simple and predictable and goes with the same template we have seen in past years. The film's highlights were It's Background score produced by Midhun Mukundan and the build up for the cameo which was clap-worthy and impactful. Other than that the movie lacks the thrills and I strongly felt the character of Arjun Ashokan was very much wasted in this one. Jayaram has delivered a good performance and this is his comeback none the less. It's not Boring but it's not Thrilling either. It's an Above Average Thriller Drama.

A stretched out film that hits the mark at some points and fails to impress at other ones.

Negative: Jayram is someone who is suffering from his own persona and impulses. He cannot act anymore, all he can do is imitate. This is what long breaks from acting does to a person, though he has the spirit to perform, it falls short. Whenever he is shown, I am hearing and seeing expressions of Kamal Hassan. The only saving grace in his acting was the physical straitjacket he took to portray being depressed and the final shot of his grinning face. I hope in part two these shortcomings would be fixed. A small suggestion for Jayram: see some Nordic films in this genre and try to imitate and adapt those actors characteristics, it might bring some difference, do the research and work. Also, get into streaming platform projects, show an active presence, doing so might make other movie makers to think about you while writing stories or making projects.

The other thing was the unnecessary distance that is kept between the investigating officer and his suspects and the would-be victims. It might've been done to intensify that suspense thingy the film was pushing, but it was a bit unpleasant. A major unpleasant thing was Jayram's character breaking his own character in a final bit with Jagadish's character by being petty and without evidence. It felt like biting on a pebble, ruined the buildup. That is one area were Suresh Gopi is actively conscious about and won't be compromising. Another one is the lack of physical care these actors had, everyone had a big ole tire around their waist, maybe their age is a factor that disallows them to maintain an aesthetic appearance. However, there should be a system in the film industry for this specific problem.

Positive: Story of the film was refreshing, had better, and never before seen story setting development. Even though the glorification of a criminal and the aspect that bone fragments were never checked during forensic's raises an eyebrow, as a first attempt by the writer, it is fairly passable. Silly medical aspects woven in were interesting, and the use of a quote, if it's a true quote in that place, the use of something that could be often overlooked was a good film element, and that seemed like a personal touch by the writer. I also loved the scoring background used, especially a strategic technique copied straight from Oppenheimer, that was a nice touch. I also liked the fact some forgotten actors were given a chance in this film, something that everyone should aim to do. Everyone has to make a living, right. Maybe the saving grace of the film was the final cameo, but maybe it also took away Jayram's spotlight off from the film. Was it required, I don't know, but to put the film onto the fourth gear for the film producer's it might've been necessary. However, I would've loved to see a different person, someone whom the audience hasn't seen in this industry or someone who used to be very active in the industry or so. Overall, giving Jayram a jumpstart through this film series is a respectable thing, even though it was a great gamble with this one, hope things would be fixed with the upcoming ones. I also hope his son wouldn't be included in these projects, cause then it would be a mega-cringe of nepotism.

Rant: It would be fun to watch a Garudan-Ozler combo, each with their own peculiarities, but could they both hone such persona's and characteristics....that would be a question. I don't know what happened with Suraj, he was doing some great acting and now all of a sudden it stopped, it seems like he is non-existent. He could have done a police officer or a doctor's role or something.

Recommendation: An okay film for one time watch, I would prefer to stream it cause the first half felt like so stretched out, but it had elements unlike other stretched out films. Watch it if you like to see Mithun's work. Cause, he has tried to incorporate many aspects and minor experiments in storytelling, and as a person if you're someone who can be appreciative about it, go to theaters to show it.

An unconventional thriller

Abraham ozler is quite different from other investigation thriller but it lacked the punch of a thriller as a whole. The movie to be frank cannot be called a thriller but just a mystery or drama. Considering the popularity it gained it is a clear disappointment. The casting is not that appreciative. The supporting characters seemed to be misplaced. Mammooka has been his best in the movie as usual. But Jayaram's acting especially at the initial stages of the movie was not that great. The casting which showed the past timeline was really good.

Coming to the story line, it was slow paced and lacked suspense. It was so dramatic and thus cannot be considered a pure thriller. But Maybe they wanted to come up with an unconventional thriller. Cinematography was not that great either.

The movie is only worth a single watch and is very loosely written. It was struggling to keep up the pace in general.

The ending also disappointed but it probably should be a hint to the upcoming part. They could have ended the story in one go without going for a second part. Hope the second part would be interesting.

*** A known told vengeance plot conveyed through medical route ***

Directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas starring Jayaram, Mammootty, Anaswara Rajan, Sentil Krishna, Arya Salim in the lead role.

Movie Analysis.

When coming to the central character, I was skeptical whether family man image star will able to carry such heavy character as his earlier police movies "Fingerprint", "Rahasya Police" was utter disappointment. But here he put the efforts, the character travels through the journey of extreme depression followed by insomnia which Jayaram could able to brought into the screen. To show the character had attained the pre mature ageing, he used to dodder which an audience could able to connect that how much this person is going through his life.

Coming to the other main character, Mammootty, his character passed through a similar kind of trauma. His voice modulation, the expression in his eyes, portrays the pain the character had gone through but when see a film, does this character is unique, this question arises as plot of vengeance had seen a lot & that is why the template adopted in Ozler is no different from Midhun's debut thriller movie "Anjaam Paathira"

When talking about the actress "Anaswara Rajan," only one word "Exceptional Artist." Her character is shown in the flash back. A 2024 girl portraying 1989 girl character so convincingly, Anaswara is establishing herself as one of the TOP Mollywood heroines.

Another notable performance was Jagdeesh. A grey shade but performed in a different way & he just nailed it.

When coming to the technical side, Midhun Manuel with his film making had able to create a mood with the known told script. The 1st half was engaging but when coming to 2nd half especially revelation of the back story we came to know its just an old wine in a new bottle. Midhun Mukundan music especially the intro of the Mammootty character mixed with the Jayaram screen presence, the elevation music was top notch & in many places the suspense tone was inserted so as to keep up the mood and it worked out well.

Overall , not wow factor but still a watchable flick.

A Haunting Thriller with Muted Impact

The film Abraham Ozler is a cinematic work belonging to the romantic and crime thriller drama genres, and was directed by Mithun Manuel Thomas.

The narrative recounts the experiences of Ozler, a police officer who suffers the profound loss of his wife and daughter. Police successfully identified the individual responsible for the murders. However, despite thorough investigation, no bodies or parts were found. The Killer has consistently asserted that he is incapable of recalling the location of the burial sites due to an overdose of narcotics. Ozler exhibited symptoms consistent with depression and experienced hallucinations. Following a three-year hiatus, he resumed his position within the police force. Concurrently, a series of killings occurred in the city. He assumed responsibility for the investigation. The murders are characterised by a consistent pattern. Firstly, the victim was admitted to hospital for treatment of either an accident or other health issues. Subsequently, the perpetrator committed the murder in the hospital, employing a scientific method. In each of the homicides, the perpetrator made use of formalin, blue ink, a birthday card and a cadaver of identical size. It was hypothesised by the police that the perpetrator of the crime in question might be a medical practitioner, due to the method of killing being of a scientific nature. However, it was also noted that the individual in question did not have a significant amount of experience in the medical profession. Subsequently, a witness statement prompted police authorities to pursue Krishna Kumar, the assistant of the perpetrator, and ultimately to Alexander, the perpetrator himself. Alexander was apprehended by the police while attempting to commit the next murder. During the subsequent interrogation, Alexander divulged the motivations behind his actions. All three of the victims' fathers were the offspring of Alexander's colleagues from medical college. The fourth victim was also a colleague of Alexander. The aforementioned individuals were responsible for the loss of sound in the case of Krishna Kumar and Alexander's significant head injury. Subsequently, the fourth individual perished as a consequence of the toxic effects of blue ink that had been administered to him by Alexander. The film concludes with the assertion that Ozler's wife and daughter have not been murdered.

The narrative was of a satisfactory quality, and the direction was adequate. The performances are satisfactory. The film is notable for its depiction of a plethora of riveting experiences; however, it ultimately leaves a rather muted impression upon the viewer. This is a valuable resource for individuals who wish to watch the film once.

Not upto the mark

Nothing special, full of holes and lacks proper pacing ( i dont mind slow thrillers, but this was not well paced and could use a good 20 - 30 mins cutting and would have benefited from elaborating a bit more of the back story - especially recent bits and how they did what they did )

Performances are ok - but other than Jayaram and Mamootty - rest of the cast seems artificial in their acting - and script was not upto standard, which made the supporting acting being more poorer - leads fared better since their characters were mostly doing action more instead of words.

All in all - this was a below average movie - which does not engage you intellectually ( since there are multiple plot points and unresolved plot elements) or give you a suspense / action of a thriller (subdued, no action sequences and slow pacing)

Thrilling and Suspenseful

Absolutely thrilling and engaging. The storyline of the movie isn't anything new, it is a very familiar one, but the way of filmmaking makes it stand out from the rest. The film definitely had some expectations as it is directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas the director of well known thriller "Anjaam Pathira". The film definitely meets the expectations, but still it isn't as gripping as the former one.

The characters are well portrayed by the respective actors and the suspense role of the villain was welcomed by the audience with cheering and applause.

The way director pulled out a mystery thriller story is absolutely fantastic. The suspenses were brought up nicely. Maybe this movie would be far more appreciated if "Anjaam Pathira" wasn't released, as it is directly compared with it.

Even though the first half seems to be a bit laggy, the second half breaks the sluggishness and gets into action. Considering all the factors the movie comes out to be good and worth a watch. It is yet another watchable and recommended thriller movie from the Malayalam movie industry.

A thriller? Seriously?

You must be joking. After watching I felt I should leave a comment because I heard so much about it and how good a movie this is. Apparently it failed to impress me one bit. Let alone the plot, direction, casting and storyline, I am totally saddened to see of all the people Jayaram giving a deadman-walking, stale performance. I would say the same about many others too in the movie. Just wondering what happened. Many aspects, scenes and dialogues lacked minimum perfection and thrilling factors.

Just because there is Mammootty or other fav actors or because the story revolves around an investigation, the movie in totality doesn't become a thriller!!

Sluggish thriller which fails to excite

When you have a director who has helmed one of the most acclaimed investigative thrillers coming up with another thriller, your expectations are bound to skyrocket. With such high expectations, I was inevitably disappointed as this film failed to make the cut.

The movie begins on a promising note with decorated officer, Ozler's family being killed and his efforts to find their remains through the killer himself. However, the main premise revolves around a run-of-the-mill serial killing plot that fails to offer anything new. Particularly, the sequences depicting the past are overly dramatic, detracting from the film's gravitas.

Jayaram, a seasoned actor, delivers a surprisingly sluggish performance in the lead role. His single, unchanging expression throughout the runtime dampens the mood, making it more somber than thrilling. Thankfully, Mammootty's grand cameo lights up the screen. His undeniable charisma and screen presence are pure magic, and he nails his performance. Arjun Ashokan also gives a commendable performance in a smaller role, while Jagadish showcases his versatility with his acting skills. On the other hand, Anaswara Rajan comes across as amateur and fails to add much to the film.

A movie of this genre heavily relies on suspense, and unfortunately, it fails to leave viewers in awe, significantly diminishing the overall experience. However, the background score works in the movie's favor and enhances some moments.

Midhun Manuel Thomas couldn't recreate his previous magic this time, delivering a half-baked work. You might watch this film for the love of the genre, but don't go in expecting a truly thrilling experience.

Well made crime drama

Ozler is an engaging crime drama with its fair share of problems. It mostly sticks to the genre conventions and keeps you interested in the proceedings without much superfluous ambitions. The background score was very effective at times but it was also overused very much. Jayaram was not bad but it felt like someone else would've been better. But it was in the second half that the performances really started shining with all the young cast from the flashback and Mammooty's cameo stealing the whole thing for themselves. I'm glad that the flashback didn't use an easy way with a certain character which I honestly am tired and horrified too much by so many recent movies, which ultimately is not the fault of the movies but the dark reality of our society. But it kind of felt refreshing that such a shock value (so much of it has turned it into normal now, I guess) choice is not used again here even if the totality of it is still cliche. The use of the classic song "Poomaaname" and its visualization was so wonderful. It really felt perfectly integrated and now I want more and more recreations like this to happen. The ending that comes back to the beginning to set up the sequel felt nicely done and more than that suspense itself, the motivation of helping the protagonist to reach there is something I'd love to watch if the sequel happens.

This may not be as technically well made as Anjaam Pathira but even Anjaam Pathira was a template serial killer story that is way more straightforward than this. And another movie that is much more predictable and not even as well made as this is still successfully playing in theatres, so I really don't understand the kind of mixed response this is getting.

Another Midhun Manual thriller!

Midhun Manuel has dunnit again. An entertaining thriller movie with some good researched writing. Eventhough some plots lacked the strength required to go to the extend of what happened, it was convincing enough. Loved the terminologies and sudden plot thickening. Don't know whether I can mention, but the cameo of this movie gave a power packed performance. The main man Jayaram as Ozler was subtle and enough. Have to say haven't seen any similar themed thriller in recent times. With less screen time even Jagadeesh was amazing with the right mix of nonchalance and menace. Waiting for the continuation of any as the ending mentioned.

Confusing movie with a terrible Jayaram

I really don't know what to make of this movie. So many random events keep happening and a myriad of characters become suspects and then disappear forever. Nothing or nobody registers and randomness prevails all throughout the movie. Jayaram was just poor. He tries to play it down, but he does not have the swag nor the charisma to play such a role. Once mammooty steps in he eats Jayaram in many scenes and Jayaram them becomes a secondary character. Also, stupid tropes like a doctor telling an investigator what to check for in a murder case etc. Is just overly cinematic for a medical thriller. Overall, the film is just confusing with a terrible Jayaram at the helm.

Jayaramettan is back

Abraham Ozler(Jayaram), a smart police officer's wife and daughter are killed by a drug addict arjun ashokan. Their body was also not found, which leads him to suffer from insomnia and premature aging. But, the police force still allows him to be in duty. A bunch of serial killings happen and the killer is presumed to be from medical field. Ozler and his team are hired this case and how they solve and catch the culprit is the rest of the story.

Midhun manuel made this film in a very engaging way. Making might remind you of anjaam pathira but unlike anjaam pathira which was a slasher thriller with lots of jumpscare moments, ozler is a medical thriller with lots of medical terms. I guess those terms will benefit common people in future. Performances of everyone is good. Jayaram as ozler performed very well. Another standout performance was jagadeesh with the most memorable scene is his conversation with Alexander where he throws back to back thug lines.

But the icing of the cake was mammootty in an extended cameo. Once he enters, you would forget that jayaram was the hero. The casting of the young actors in the flashback was perfect. Poomaname song was perfectly placed.

First half runs in an engaging manner, second half we get a very elaborate flashback of the killer which was pretty generic. The climax leads to a sequel.

On the whole, after several attempts jayaramettan finally registers a comeback in Malayalam through Abraham ozler. Though the writing offers nothing new, midhun manuel's making, performances and ikka's cameo keeps you engaged from start to end.

Not too much...

It's feels just ok, unwanted scenes, character mismatch. The presence of mammooty is not necessary.

Some twists are too good, but suddenly the hangover loose because on unnecessary sentiments.

Flashback pose above average feelings but the siju kurup teenage character is always singing only one song ...that create boring mood.

Direction is just ok and way to tell the story is not good. In more scenes the Police officers are like dolls and always vomit one dialogue "sir, what's next". We will feel itching..... The trigger to kill victims are very funny... Director failed to transfer the feelings to audience.

Bro why make it this complex

Why make a movie this complex to understand? I also expected a lot from Midhun Manuel Thomas but this was a disaster. I don't understand why he went for this kind of treatment. I also felt lots of artificiality throughout the movie. The screenplay was not at all solid.

Jayaram was fine and I think he has performed fine in his respective role. Other than that there is nothing much in this movie. There was a lot of hype before the release of this movie but the creators couldn't fulfil the hype. I liked the concept of the story but it was not at all straightforward and it was very hard to understand.

Better fast-forward the movie.

Blockbuster Movie...........,

Abraham Ozler' successfully merges medical thriller and emotional crime drama, with Jayaram delivering a commendable performance. While the film has flaws, standout performances make it a worthwhile watch for Mollywood enthusiasts.

Director Midhun adeptly concludes the film with a twist. The surprise cameo by Mammootty adds a highlight, leaving a lasting impression. Screenplay writer Dr. Randheesh Krishnan introduces engaging medical jargon, maintaining viewer engagement. Jayaram's commendable performance and standout acts by supporting cast members enhance the film's appeal., 'Abraham Ozler' is a must-watch, blending medical thriller and emotional crime drama. Despite some flaws, the film captures attention and establishes Jayaram in a significant role.

Nope. Nothing great

Nothing much to say. 1st half was kinda watchable but 2nd half was super boring. Just because movie has highly paid casting it doesn't mean that flash back should be super lengthy. You will get tired for sure. There is no edge of the seat or thrilling scenes. Sometimes you feel that only these 3 cops are available in entire kerala are available to investigate the case. Crime scenes doesn't make sense, people can just walk in like they are in a mall and leave effortlessly. Every crime incident will be solved instantly because the criminal leaves useless kindergarten level clue to solve for cops.
