I grew up with a lot of great supernatural shows like Goosebumps, Eerie Indiana, Bone Chillers, Round the Twist, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, and So Weird.
Unfortunately, it seems like there aren't many good shows for kids today that deal with the supernatural. Most of them are really cheesy shows like My Babysitter's a Vampire, Wizards of Waverly, or this new Nickelodeon show Every Witch Way that are more about high school drama than scares and have really bad writing and acting. Then there were the really campy, groan-inducing shows like "The Troop" that played mostly for laughs.
So imagine my surprise when I ran across an episode of Spooksville and actually enjoyed it. The actors in this show are downright believable. They don't ham it up and overact the way all the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon stars do. The characters for the most part are normal kids dealing with supernatural forces, and they dress and look like real kids. They don't dress like rockers or pop stars. You won't see any neon skinny jeans or designer shoes on this show.
And better yet, the writing is above average. This show doesn't insult your intelligence with thin plots and cheap laughs. There is real character development, a good continuous storyline, and some solid standalone episodes.
I can only hope that we see more shows like Spooksville in the future instead of the schlock that is passing for teen entertainment on Disney and Nickelodeon these days.

I admit it, I'm a total Spooksville fan girl. I've never read the books but I saw it on Netflix and decided to give it a go. I watched the whole series in like 3 days (safe to say I loved it).
Sure, if I could have directed the series I would have made a few changes because sporadically there's a scene that's cringe-worthy. But I mean for a kids show it is incredibly good.
I love the intro - a clear reference to Buffy the Vamp Slayer (yasss)! Adam and Watch, the two main characters are bound to make you a pedophile from their utter adorableness and their friend Sally is really sassy and hilarious.
The show is really witty with it's wordplay and incorporates lots of science fiction and fantasy elements, both of which I love. The story line (while sometimes drags) is really actually quite good. Sometimes they won't resolve something until 8 episodes later, which I liked and hated because I WANTED to know what the clue meant. But it gave real depth to the story.
I am so sad this series ended because I am dying to know what happens next in the story. I pray every night that enough people will watch on Netflix and a film will be made to finish the story before all the actors get too old. :p

Spooksville has the same eerie tone as Goosebumps. It reminds me of a classic 90's teen horror show with the creepy music and dark setting. The show doesn't phone it in like many other "spooky" shows. I can't stand it when they try to make it too zany or comical. It's hard to take it serious when there are too many slapstick comedy moments. The cast of kids also make the show feel realistic and put a lot of effort into their roles. Kudos to them.
I watched the majority of the show during the month of October. It was a perfect Halloween inspired show to get me in the mood for all things scary. I cannot recommend it enough, especially around this time of year. If your no longer a teenager like myself then you'll probably have a feeling of nostalgia when watching Spooksville. It's a really good show that I hope gets renewed.

In the haunted town of Springville, aka Spooksville, three friends, Watch, Sally & the newcomer Adam must fend off the forces of evil to find Adam's mother & survive the weirdness of their hometown, while keeping their guard high for the cunning local witch, Ann Templeton.
"Spooksville" is another notable victim of the TV networks policy of cancelations after 1 or 2 seasons for the most diverse reasons. It could've been an amazing teen horror series, with plenty of short episodes and interesting characters but alas it was not! I really enjoyed it, it wasn't always perfectly polished but it could've grown more & improve.
The story also is interesting & with the right dose of romance, but the main focus is friendship & family, as it should. The cast is actually very capable of delivering at least decent performances & well assembled. It's really a shame it got canceled after just one season.

Best kids show since so weird and house of anubis. I have written a lot plot lines of the books on Spooksville and the show. Plus I added stuff.

- AnecdotesBased on the young adult book series by Christopher Pike, where each books is covered in roughly two episodes, with the single one being original creations for TV. Most of the plot had to be altered due to budget constrains, as in the books the protagonists travel to exotic locations, outer space or other dimensions.
