Hope Floats

Some stories are written films made to recharge fading hopes of the few who uphold values niti nyay justice GreaterGood. Dead men walking may suddenly awaken join hands for shreyas overwhelming the natural self preserving preyas. Most are part of the system of injustice corruption themselves .They might join in anonymously momentarily before sinking back to quagmire of greeds and needs .Jag Utha Insaan type idealistic utopian dream we all love to watch. Nation runs because very few do live like the protagonist Ticket Collector played by Madhavan. Add another such honest face in pretty sub inspector lady travellings by train played by Kriti Kullari. Drop by drop even tank can leak away its precious water so does money .The system Truth fights against is our inactivity against the evil even anonymously. Imagine if Most of us pick up phone dial100 or support hold hand against the so called powerful for a cause? To expose smallest wrong doing ,raise a finger or more ? See how i forgot to write about film making but floated up in hope after watching the movie ? Who cares about the technical imperfections or critics awards here story telling sparks a hope against endemic corruption by one of our own.

Spark that can never turn in Fire!!

A very beautiful and amazing concept lost in poor screenplay and story telling.

Execution, music, direction, editing and almost everything in the movie was supremely low standard. I watched it only because of R. Madhvan sir, he was terrific as always. But there was little to no requirement of a female lead, and their love angle was also unnecessary. The kid was also a miscasting, he did not act well nor he fitted in the screenplay well.

Negative roles: Manu rishi was amazing as always, but Neil was simply over acting, owner/chairman of a huge bank dancing on road, arguing with a comman man on the streets was just over the board.

All in all, a very satirical concept lost due to bad story writing, screenplay and bad direction.

Watch it once for the concept and acting of Madhvan Sir.

A good opportunity faded.

Tone, Script & Story: A travelling ticket examiner who is good at accounts discovers fraudulent nature of a bank where bank loots public by taking miniscule amounts from accounts which are created in bank.

When I first find the trailer I expected more, I expected more from story may it be the exposure of crime, how it is brought to justice or may it be the love life involving Kriti. Also, the story takes time to get to the subject during its runtime.

Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography: The station, the account calculation, the neighbor's, the account holders, the bank, the residences, the office, etc has been captured well. It's the story which lacks. Music is below average. Acting is justified.

Final Verdict: The movie has been released on OTT. Do support it.

Madhavan - The Saving Grace

Hisaab Barabar, directed by Ashwini Dhir, revolves around an honest Ticket Collector (TC) working for the Indian Railways who sets out to expose a massive financial fraud by a banker. While the premise seems promising on paper, the execution falters. The film struggles to find a consistent tone, failing to strike a balance between being hard- hitting or a light satirical take. Though there are a few interesting scenes, they are quickly followed by sequences that feel nonsensical. The overuse of the phrase "Hisaab Barabar" by the lead and in the background score becomes repetitive and annoying, further diminishing the film's appeal.

OVERALL RATING

R. Madhavan delivers an earnest performance as the honest TC, but even his effort cannot salvage the film, especially with the overly dramatic monologues toward the end. Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kriti Kulhari, and Manu Rishi deliver okay performances at best in their poorly written characters. The heavy use of green screen in several scenes further derails the film making the film look amateurish and distracting from the narrative. Overall, Hisaab Barabar wastes its promising premise with inconsistent execution, weak writing, and a lack of focus, offering only a few noteworthy moments and a sincere effort from its lead.

OVERALL - 7/10.

A decent entertainer.

The plot is good along with Madhavan's acting as always. The character depth is appreciated in protagonist. (there could have been a monologue maybe of him talking about his marriage)

Kriti's character was never able to establish itself on the screen. It had much scope to play an important role in the plot but it was constructed poorly without any depth and had no influence on the plot.

Same for Neil's character, made poorly, did not have a strong hold on the plot, and lacked the character depth and hence was a poorly made antagonist.

Though the plot had scope the direction was not up to the mark.

The start was good but towards the climax it gets a bit gimmicky and easy. This could have been a much better movie if it was not this filmy and had been more precise and accurate with it's ending.

Wastage of Talent! A Misstep Despite a Promising Concept

Certain films start with a concept that sparks interest, only to falter in execution. Unfortunately, this movie falls squarely into that category. Despite a good premise, the screenplay, direction, and editing leave much to be desired, resulting in an underwhelming experience that fails to capitalize on its potential.

At the core of the film's issues lies its incoherent screenplay. What could have been a gripping narrative is reduced to a poorly-structured story that feels rushed and disjointed. Scenes lack fluidity, and the transitions are abrupt, leaving the audience struggling to connect with the plot. The dialogues, instead of enhancing the characters, come off as unpolished and disconnected from the emotions of the scenes. This mismatch only widens the gap between the film's intentions and its execution.

The direction by Ashwini Dhar is another major disappointment. With a cast as talented as R. Madhavan, Kirti Kulhari, and Neil Nitin Mukesh, expectations were naturally high. However, the film fails to utilize their skills effectively. Madhavan, known for his nuanced performances, seems out of place in a role that does little justice to his range. Kirti Kulhari, who has proven her mettle in previous projects, is sidelined in a script that doesn't give her character any depth or agency. Neil Nitin Mukesh, too, is reduced to a shadow of what he's capable of, his role feeling more like an afterthought than a meaningful part of the narrative.

One of the film's biggest pitfalls is its editing. Poor pacing disrupts any potential build-up of tension or emotional resonance. Key scenes are either dragged out unnecessarily or cut too short, leaving little room for character development or audience engagement. The editing choices are so jarring that they further amplify the flaws in the screenplay and direction, making the film feel like a collection of loosely connected scenes rather than a cohesive story.

The only saving grace of the movie is its concept, which had the potential to stand out. The central idea is intriguing and could have been transformed into a compelling film with the right approach. However, that potential remains untapped due to the film's numerous shortcomings.

The dialogue delivery between characters is another glaring issue. The exchanges lack chemistry and fail to convey any emotional depth or authenticity. Conversations feel forced, unnatural, and devoid of any spark, which makes it even harder to invest in the characters or their relationships.

In the end, this movie stands as an unfortunate example of how poor execution can ruin a promising concept. Ashwini Dhar, despite having a talented cast and an intriguing premise, delivers one of the most underwhelming films in recent memory. While the actors try to make the best of what they're given, the lack of proper direction, a weak screenplay, and subpar editing make it a lost cause. This is a film that had all the ingredients for success but ended up being a missed opportunity. A disappointing experience, to say the least.

Hidden Gem or Overhyped Disappointment?

Madhavan's Railway to Redemption Has Delays, But Reaches Its Destination!

Ashwni Dhir's Hisaab Barabar starts brilliantly, with Madhavan delivering a cracking performance as a ticket collector who accidentally becomes a corporate whistleblower. The chap's got that everyman charm down pat... think his 3 Idiots days but with more righteous indignation and fewer engineering jokes.

The film's opening act is genuinely engaging, setting up a David-versus-Goliath tale that promises proper thrills. Madhavan anchors proceedings with his trademark blend of bumbling determination and moral clarity, making even the dodgiest dialogue sound almost profound.

Sadly, director Dhir can't quite maintain the momentum. What begins as focused storytelling gradually descends into tonal confusion-part social commentary, part melodrama, with comic relief that lands about as gracefully as a derailed train. Neil Nitin Mukesh hams it up deliciously as the corporate villain, whilst Preity Kulhari remains criminally underused.

The technical elements are workmanlike rather than inspired, but Madhavan's committed performance elevates material that could have been thoroughly mediocre. It's formulaic filmmaking with genuine heart, rather like a delayed train that eventually gets you where you need to go.

Rating: 7/10 (including 1 extra point purely for Madhavan making earnestness look effortless)

Realistic plot wasted over masala movie treatment

Wached it for Madhvan, but what an absolute waste. Childish style of story telling. Madhavan's honesty is the only saving grace.

The movie stops being entertaining beyond the first half an hour till they are establishing Madhavan character and the plot unveils. The masala movie treatment of realistic plot with honest intentions of actors is absolutely cringe worthy. All the other characters beyond Madhavan are mere caricatures, specially Neil Nitin Mukesh was looking like a joker right through. Songs are just for effect too.

I only wish Madhavan and the cast were used for a more honest effort of story telling.

For Madhavan, I will rather watch The Railway Man once again.

Average one timer

R. Madhavan's Hisaab Barabar falls short of expectations, delivering a story that feels overly simplistic despite an interesting premise. While the topic had potential, the execution lacked depth, with no intense drama or gripping moments to keep viewers hooked. The film suffers from a flat narrative and minimal emotional impact, making it feel more like a casual watch than a memorable experience. R. Madhavan sir, known for his exceptional performances in films like 3 Idiots, Rocketry, Saala Khadoos, and the web series like Breathe, couldn't elevate the lackluster storytelling in Hisaab Barabar. It's a one-time watch at best, deserving a 4/10 for effort but leaving much to be desired in terms of engagement and impact.

An eye opener

Hisaab Barabar movie has a simple story and has all the abilities to become an eye opener of the common man.

The movie script becomes loosened in following cases: 1. The hero character (Radhe) picks the oranges for Rs.100 from old lady and distributes them to train passengers and says 'Hisaab Barabar' (Account is settled). In this case, the account is settled between Radhe and old lady, but the account is not settled between Radhe and the passengers who took the oranges from him. Each orange may cost around Rs.10, but Radhe did not take that money from passengers.

2. In one scene, Radhe bathes his son. But the specs was still on his son's face during bathing. Nobody wears the specs while taking bath.

3. The character called Kuku Kejriwal openly holds a credit card to sell it to customers coming to the bank. None of the banks open any credit/debit cards before customers fills the application form for the card. Also, showing the credit/debit card in front of everybody is a security breach. This is not mentioned in the movie.

Other than these 3 points, the movie is great and the script is tight in every minute.

The performance of R. Madhavan is really great that too immediately after the character made in 'Shaitaan'. Coming out of that character and making a role of simple common man is impossible to any other actor.

Overall the movie is very close to real life and every citizen can get to know how his/her small amount and fraction amounts are stolen by banks.

Disaster

Did not expect this from actors like Madhavan and Neil Nitin Mukesh. Infact Neil was a good actor with potential but in this movie he's absolutely trash. Looks like he's lost touch with acting. Madhavan too disappointed trying to act like a common man, comes out fake and hamming all his scenes. The story is predictable and boring, although it does have a social message but it's just unwatchable. This movie could have been a TV serial and would have failed even at that because TV serials are made better than this. Every single actor big and small is horrible and fails to impress. Don't have words to express how disappointing this movie was. Madhavan needs to do better.

Novel plot but unconvincing presentation

Some movies have a novel concept but suffer from poor execution and this is one such example. Director Ashwani Dhir has written and directed good comedies like " Son of sardar" and " Atithi tum kab jaoge" and so this movie is truly disappointing. Since the movie is poorly structured and has a weak narrative even Madhavan has not been able to make it absorbing enough. The plot is about an ordinary railway ticket collector who is good in accounting and who discovers an error in his bank account showing that a small amount has been siphoned off. He takes up with the bank, relentlessly pursues this and finds that this irregularity is only a tip of the iceberg. His personal safety is in jeopardy as he takes on the establishment exposing a scam of huge proportions. ( After seeing this movie it is possible that some account holders may have examined their bank transactions in detail.) One only wishes that the screenplay was more coherent and had more focus. Presently it is lackluster, not at all convincing and hence the movie is not able to connect with the audience. Madhavan does try to make things work but doesn't succeed. Priti Kulhari doesn't impress in an indifferently presented character. Neil Nitin Mukesh as a quirky boss of the bank has overdone it and hammed his way through. He is reduced to a caricature.

Take a pass on this one.

I watched it just because it had Madhvan in it. I did have above average expectations as it was about the financial system. Film-makers have made this movie for the more simple minded.

The acting by each and everyone was terrible. Really bad visual effects where applicable. The acting by the dogs however were on point. The romantically angle was confusing and vague. Is it there, or is it not? The music was unnecessarily intense and repetitive.

Madhvan was a 5/10, not too bad, can only do so much when the script and direction are terrible and production is low value.

Neil, dude cmon man, what was that? 2/10.

Don't know why I put this on hoping for some kind of substance but ended up with the same conclusion, that indian cinema is more a miss than hit.

Its an eye opener movie

This is about a person who is a TC in Indian Railways by destiny but a actually wanted to be a CA. By the way this man Radhe Mohan is an expert in his calculations. His mistake was that he tried to fight for justice for "Aam janta" the common man and these common man has no time or interest to fight for them. But Radhe was determined to fight for the common people as he believed that some scam was going on in the bank and the bank is stealing common man's hard earned money. So,he decides to file a complain against the bank. This is what we see in the teaser but what happens after that and how he manages to reveal the truth. Whether he wins or his attempt goes in vain, for that you have to watch this movie .Madhavan as usual did an excellent job,the supporting actors too tried to match with him. An eye opener movie which every citizen must watch.

This movie is not worth watching at all.

The storytelling quality is very poor. I had higher expectations from R Mandhvan, which is why I watched this movie. After watching it, I realized it's extremely bad. The screenplay was not good at all, and the emotional scenes lacked any real emotion. To be honest, R. Madhavan's acting was good, but the screenplay let it down. And Nitin Mukesh's acting was extremely poor throughout the movie. Honestly, I didn't expect it to be this bad. This movie is totally a waste of time.

This is the first time I've come to IMDb to write a review for a movie because I have never seen such a bad screenplay. The screenplay of this movie felt as shallow as storytelling in reels.

VERY DISAPPOINTING!

As is the norm with Zee 5 movies, there's always one known star on whose shoulders the film stands. The rest of the cast are all C grade actors and actresses whose acting at best is below average. The same was with this film with Neil Nitin Mukesh's acting being totally useless. This was definitely his worst performance ever in a film! This was a very basic film with a very simple story. As usual all of the songs were totally unnecessary and the length of this movie was at least 30 minutes too long. Besides Madhavan's competent acting there was nothing praiseworthy at all about this movie.

3/10.

Very mid execution

If you have a nice plot which is somewhat unique you cannot take a safe route this really makes the film sound dull and this is what exactly happens here very average storytelling things just keep happening as you predict. On the top the acting performances were also a let down which is a major disappointment considering the cast, it felt like this was just a project to fill time in their calendars. By safe I mean not going into the depth the nitty gritty of the topic just scratching it superficially and mixing it with some nonsense romance to lighten the mood To me it was just an average movie not worth your time ( I don't why they promote such movies so much)

FAVOURITE CHARACTER :: Madhavan I guess cause he had the most dialogues but even his performance was under par FAVOURITE MOMENT :: the climax I don't know 🤷

Lovely movie, with no obscenity

Loved the idea of the story. These days 90% movies uses obscenity to sell. This movie can be watched with children and entire family. I want to congratulate the entire team for keeping the movie clean. In today's time it has become difficult to sell content without nudity.

Subject of the movie is relevant in today's time. Loved the story line. Madhavan sir is a star, I am great fan of his simple style, and it is always a treat to watch him. All other actors did a great job as well, specially the character of the maid is well done. It was a time well spent for me.

Would recommend that every one to watch it with kids and family.

Director thinks we are brainless! Hisab u pay

I luv Madhavan and he is as usual on dot here. What an actor.

I hate this movie because the director decided that we are dim wits😡 It is so childish and so masala that it becomes very irritating very soon as the plot thickens. I have rarely seen such duds when low budget movies are made.

And in all this I cannot understand how a person like Madhavan who is very intelligent and above average EQ didn't intervene and actually played along to this very shabby movie.

Alas! What a lovely plot and how well you guys completely destroyed it throughout.

My humble recommendation is to keep away and save yourselves anger.

Great Watch. Could have been better

Interesting plot and overall realistic presentation. Only problem was a lack of character depth and development. Also direction could have been improved. The movie was through out watchable and brought a worrying issue to notice. Madhavan's acting was top notch. The film's presentation of the money laundering scam had potential to become something like reality but lacked a bit in realism. Also the masala movie agenda kept the movie from becoming realistic. The screenplay is tightly woven, keeping the audience engaged with clever twists and thought-provoking moments. The film balances its serious themes with light-hearted moments, ensuring an entertaining experience without feeling overly preachy. Overall the movie is A good Watch for a Sunday Night.

Worth watching

Hisaab Barabar is a thought-provoking film that tackles the relevant issue of financial scams with a blend of humor and drama. R. Madhavan delivers a compelling performance as the common man who takes on a corrupt banking system. The movie's strength lies in its relatable characters and its ability to shed light on the vulnerabilities of ordinary people in the face of corporate greed. While the plot may have some predictable elements, the film's message about financial responsibility and standing up for what's right resonates strongly. Overall, Hisaab Barabar is an engaging watch that leaves you pondering the importance of financial awareness and the need for ethical practices in the banking sector.

The great responsibility of everyone

The movie is very good in storyline it something that's missing in Film industry today.but I'd like that a mystery story is mixed up with romantic story. Every person should watch it to know there responsibility about money and economy in country. R.madhavn was a great actor and it seems in this movie. Movie talks about the real story of common people of india. The songs of this movie also misses out the plot .i would say that people encourage movie like pathaan and jawan but i feel the industry don't take up the real movies that are biased to reality without any action.in conclusion it's very good and good for those viewers who don't like action and who like inspirational movies.
