Avis à la une
As a huge fan of the book, the movie didn't disappoint me at all! The character portrayals were spot on. Especially Seyfrieds performance as Nina, hand her that Oscar already!!!
I still prefer the book. But the movie actually lived up to my expectations & maybe even more!
I think I actually prefer the ending of the movie over the ending of the book!

I went into this film not having read the book beforehand, so I went into it without knowing all the twists and turns. And from perspective I can say that it is a really good thriller with well executed twists and reveals The psychological aspects of the film is also really well done at making mentally tense moments carry out to the audience, making the audience experience the uncomfortable feeling of being gaslit and manipulated.
The main cast also delivers really solid performances. Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney have excellent chemistry on screen and they both play really well against each other.
My only problem with the film is Michele Morrone's character, who simply did not work for me. He felt out of place, didn't do much, and it wasn't really clear of why he was there how his character came into the picture of the plot.
But all in all this is a great film for people who like a good, well executed thriller.

In general, the story was pretty good. It was a decent thriller with some jump, scare moments, some gruesome body stuff and a pretty good twist. It also reflected the realities of mental health and clingy relationships. I've heard some complain about the pacing towards the middle/end but in my opinion, the pacing was fine. It didn't feel drawn out and it ended exactly when it should've.
The characters themselves were pretty good. Sydney Sweeney did a decent job. She's not gonna win a Grammy for her performance, but she played her role well of the innocent but beautiful woman and has a good character arc.
I really did like how they used music and different camera angles to set a very tense tone.
Overall, it's in decent movie with some good tense moments and a pretty good story.

With a cast that definitely won't be rocking the dreidel in Yiddish theater anytime soon, Paul Feig moves from his traditional wheelhouse of brilliant female-led comedies to more glossy Lifetime movie avenues in his adaptation of Freida McFadden's thriller about a young ex-con ('hardest working actor of the year going by movie count' Sydney Sweeney) who seeks employment with a wealthy wife (Amanda 'don't invest in her blood-testing company' Seyfried) but finds a web of mind-games and deceptions waiting behind the freshly-scrubbed Elantras, chiseled hubbies, Stepford parties and Gen Z Martha Stewart veneers. Feig cosplays the paranoia well and it's a decent enough distraction from the holiday shopping rush, in-laws, etc., but I still think Sydney's boxing biopic "Christy" was overlooked as a stronger if more down-market portrayal of domestic abuse (though the critics completely shut out my favorite of the year "Anniversary" in favor of Leo sweating and squinting in a pancho for three hours, so what do I know). But in a holiday season that just took an incredibly darker turn maybe "The Housemaid" will take on an increased relevance for those curious about what goes on behind the closed doors of the rich and seemingly happy. Anything including "Avatar: Fire, Ash, And The Insurance Lawsuit Liability" are welcome distractions. Ho ho ho and Oy yoi yoi. RIP the great Rob Reiner and his wife Michele.
Hate to be cliche and be another one who says "the book is better than the movie!!" But that truly is the case here.
The first half of the movie felt like a weird low budget film that was just trying to set up a scene of Sydney Sweeney topless. It was weird vibes and just really felt rushed until her intimate scene.
After that, it actual felt like the real thriller story it should have been.
With that said, maybe I'm just not a Sydney Sweeney fan... I found her acting to be so dry and dull. Amanda on the other hand saved the entire film and was great.
The film overall was bleh. If I hadn't read the book, I would think it was fine. But remembering how into the book I was, it fell short for me. I wouldn't rewatch it.
