MattBeth, a new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy Macbeth, has found a new cast member from a galaxy far, far away. Riffing on the story of a general who receives a prophecy that he will one day become King of Scotland, MattBeth follows a former sitcom star on a bike journey across America to star in that very play.

Vivien Lyra Blair, who plays Princess Leia in Disney’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series and starred in Netflix’s Bird Box, is among cast for the indie feature, which has been shooting in LA, New York, and ten other cities across America.

Murisa Harba and Matt Vlahakis co-direct the film, which is a modern-day retelling of Shakespeare’s Macbeth as a road movie on city bikes.

During a July 31 appearance on The Pat McAfee Show he explained he had been lined up to read for Bert, a role later given to Canadian rocker Peter Dreimanis.

“I just wouldn’t do it,” the musician-actor said, a stance that drew cheers from the show’s panel and rippled across social platforms within minutes.

Clips circulated by celebrity news outlets were viewed thousands of times within the first hour. Released by Warner Bros. in April, the Ryan Coogler-directed picture follows twin brothers who open a blues nightclub in 1932 Mississippi and face a clan of vampires.

Fronted by Michael B. Jordan in dual roles, Sinners has collected about $365 million worldwide, the highest tally for an original title since theaters resumed full schedules.

Sinners might be one of the year’s biggest breakout hits, but rapper-turned-actor Machine Gun Kelly (real name Colson Baker) says he almost played a major part in the bloody spectacle—until one moment in the script made him walk away. Nicole Kidman shared a video from the set of Practical Magic 2 on Instagram, writing, "The witches are back. Owens sisters' first day on set!" In the clip, she and Sandra Bullock can be seen hugging and laughing together while cameras roll. "Turns out, we have a lot of work to do," Bullock tells Kidman as the two embrace before they do another take of the scene.

Kidman and Bullock are joined by returning stars Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing who played Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny. “Practical Magic 2” also announced a host of familiar names as new characters in the sequel including Lee Pace (“Pushing Daisies”), Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones”), Xolo Maridueña (“Blue Beetle”) and Solly McLeod (“The Dead Don’t Hurt”). Blumhouse also noticed his talents after Host and offered him a three-picture deal, keeping the filmmaker well and truly busy after his transition from indie films to Hollywood.

The first of those films was 2021’s somewhat controversial Dashcam. But 2026 will see the release of the second film Savage has made with Blumhouse. Titled Other Mommy, it sounds like an interesting companion movie to Savage’s 2023 horror, The Boogeyman.

This writer is keen on seeing what else Savage has in store for us, and we’re betting you are, too. With that in mind, here’s what we know so far about Other Mommy.

Director Rob Savage is adapting Bird Box author Josh Malerman’s horror novel Incidents Around the House, and the feature has found both its title and its young lead star.

Eight-year-old Arabella Olivia Clark (The Housemaid) is set to lead Other Mommy, Universal and Atomic Monster’s new supernatural horror film, Deadline reports.

The story follows “8-year-old Bela (Clark), who lives in a home strained by her parents’ troubled marriage, only to see her life further upended by a sinister entity she calls ‘Other Mommy.’ When this malevolent presence emerges from her closet, persistently asking, ‘Can I go inside your heart?’, Bela refuses. But soon, Other Mommy’s manifestations become increasingly aggressive, threatening the safety of Bela’s family.”

It’s a haunted house tale told from the perspective of the young girl, bringing a new angle to the subgenre.

Blumhouse laid off six staffers across film, television and casting departments amid larger company restructuring, TheWrap has learned.

The independent studio employs around 100 people.

The staffers affected are largely junior-level executives and support staff. Amongst those affected was Haley Pigman, a creative development manager who previously worked on Blumhouse titles like “The Woman in the Yard.”

The studio has been the industry standard for consistent horror success at the box office for years, yielding high concept, low-budget hits every year and spawning multiple franchises in the process.

But for the past 18 months, the studio has suffered its first extended slump, and the sequel that was supposed to get things back on track, “M3GAN 2.0,” instead continued the trend, suffering a poor $10.2 million domestic/$17.1 million global opening weekend. None of the affected staffers worked on the film.

The original film, which did not make a profit in its initial theatrical run, went on to become a staple of aughts cable television, brewing up generations of fans and becoming a cult favorite.

The logical next question, then, was who — besides the now-Oscar-winning Kidman and Bullock — would be returning to the quaint Owens sisters’ Massachusetts home for the next adventure. Practical Magic 2 has added Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing to its ensemble.

Wiest is reprising her role as Aunt Jet, while Channing reprises Aunt Franny, who play the witches that raised the Owens sisters, Sally (played by Sandra Bullock) and Gillian (played by Nicole Kidman) and taught them magic.

Warner Bros. announced on social media the sequel’s release date and that Bullock and Kidman were officially returning in May, following the reports in June 2024 that the stars were in talks to return. Susanne Bier (The Perfect Couple, Bird Box, In a Better World) is directing the sequel and Bullock and Kidman are producing with Denise Di Novi, who produced the original film. Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original film’s script, and Georgia Pritchett (Succession) penned the screenplay.
