Excellent movie from starting to end. Movie is perfect low budget one but tick marked in all aspects and engaged the audience completely. Using cricket as a tool and story line to communicate message is an excellent idea and full credits goes to the director. Attakathi Dinesh and Harish Kalyan screen presence and acting combo worked out really well. Swasika (Attakathi Dinesh's wife) opened the scene riding on tractor is awesome and her acting was top notch. Sanjana Krishnamoorthy acted brilliantly as a new comer and rocked the screens. There are so many high moments in movie. Devadarsini Sukumaran,Kaali Venkat, Bala Saravanan and others played their role very well. Cast selection for this movie is simply superb and also village setup also really good.

Lubber Pandhu (Transl. Rubber Ball) is a drama about egos set against a backdrop of cricket in a villaga in tamilnadu. The story revolves around Anbu and Poomalai aka Gethu, played brilliantly by Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh respectively, and their egos of never losing a cricket game and all the complexities this behavior brings with it. I was never really a fan of Dinesh's acting, but he was a surprise package in this movie. More than these two, the female leads Swasika and Sanjana Krishnamutrhy stole the show with their presence.

The film deals with a lot of human emotions, caste based discrimination without being overly melodramatic or preachy. It is these kinds of movies that remind you that despite having big action set pieces in big budget pan India movies, it is human emotions that matter in a story. This movie offers plenty of those moments. Be it a relationship between two teenagers who are in love, a wife and a husband, a mother and a son, a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law, or a pet and its owner. These subtle emotions are visualized beautifully.

This is a sports drama, and the editing and cinematography hit it out of the park to draw us in when the characters are playing cricket. You won't get the same goosebumps inducing feeling you get when watching Lagaan, but instead the sport is staged to bring you closer to the characters. One thing I wished they spent a bit more time on was the sound design, especially during the cricket games. The production design is just right.

I recommend watching this movie if you want a nice departure from the high-octane action thrillers that have been fed us in the recent past. You won't be disappointed.

The best rural sports genre movie, filled with WOW moments everywhere. The director marked his victory, when we get goosebumps for Attakatthi Dinesh. Highly entertaining sports drama with very good social message without any preaching tone.

The background songs, Vijayakanth are used for mass moments. Without any punch dialogs, without mass hero, the movie has fantastic mass moments in the second half.

The dialogs are nicely written and all the actors did their job very well. The one liner, sentiment, love sequences are perfectly gelled with Cricket.

The best part is that the comedy layer in all sad/joy moments make the audience laugh from beginning to end. After long time, I enjoyed the perfect entertainer by forgetting the real world around me.

I would highly recommending this movie to anyone.

Worth the watch.

The story is all about two talented cricketers, Gethu, a family man and Anbu, a happy go lucky guy. How they land in an egoistic situation and what happens to them and people around them forms the crux of the story, layered with many beautiful sub plots and interesting characters with many light hearted and rib tickling comedy through out the movie. Attakathi Dinesh as Gethu and Harish Kalyan as Anbu are the main anchors of the movie! Supporting characters by Sanjana, Swasika, Kali Venkat, Bala Saravanan are memorable! Music by Sean Rolden is heart warming. Cinematography and other technical departments are tout and solid. The movie is a full package of fun, emotion, drama, sports, and politics of caste. Also, the movie rubs the second half curse of Kollywood movies. One of the best Tamil movie of 2024. Has no intimate scenes or double meaning jokes! Highly recommended to watch with your family!

I created this account only to write this review. Wonderful cinema and safe to watch with kids without worrying about violence or vulgar scenes. Every frame was created so perfectly and enjoyable. No unnecessary danses or songs. Especially it's a treat to watch for every cricket fan. May be somehow somewhere it reminds of the csk team and MSD.. that might be the reason why fans are celebrating it . Or somehow atleast one character will remind us about ourselves.. i don't know hotto explain but it's a must watch. This one should open ways to create more cinema like this one. Hats off to everyone.

Lubber Pandhu (2024) : Brief Review -

More cricketing thrills and drama than scripted IPL matches. Tamizharasan Pachamuthu has made a sensational debut with a highly unconventional sports drama, and I think this guy will go way ahead of his contemporaries. So, the idea of merging cricket with family drama, rivalry, ego battle, and romance is quite unique for Indian cinema. We have a sports epic like Lagaan, but that's a plain story driven by period drama. Lubber Pandhu starts off as a cricket rivalry between two local giants; one is a great batsman and the other is a great bowler, and then brings two love stories torn by this obsession with the sport. A small verbal fight between them takes things to a whole new level in the future, and there is that casteism issue too. I don't really think that casteism or honor ego was so effective for a local cricket tournament. But the way it explains the importance of talent is really something meaningful and socially encouraging. The film is lengthy and very predictable with all that romance, flirting, longing, parting, and reconciliation, which looks mediocre occasionally. Nonetheless, the dramatic crafting of this highly engaging storyline makes it a clear winner. That interval block, when Gethu is about to smash the winning trophy to show his frustration after getting out of the field, sees a side view of his close aide getting smashed by the opponent and line down on the floor. The cinematographer and director deserve one big award doll just for that one scene. Talking of flaws, the comedy falls flat and the romance is too cheesy. I tell you, I have seen the same visuals in almost every romantic song here and there. The climax plays a small but impactful twist on a sensitive topic like "equality" for talents in sports, and you find yourself cutely grinning with "the end." Well played, Pachamuthu.

Best come back movie for "Attakathi dinesh" and karish Kalyan acting gives additional impact to the movie, comedy scene works well, background musics especially that vijakanth songs takes the scenes to the next level, script, casts, screen play gives additional spices to the movie, while I am seeing the movie some of my old memories comes to my mind gives me real feelings emotions every scenes makes sincere effort, overall the movie makes tight bonds for the village cricketers and all the cricket fans mainly the direction makes new way of story line and there is no boring scenes, both actress gives the wonderful output.

Another keen entertainer from Kollywood portraying brotherhood,romance,family emotions,humour on the backdrop of the game cricket.

The plot of the movie revolves around two individuals who has great passion and love for cricket and the interesting moments that they come across when they had to crosses each other's path through their favourite game.

The director has written the script brilliantly giving space and performance avenues for all the key characters without losing the essence of the story.

Subtle performance by Dinesh Ravi as a mid 40 guy and special appreciation to Tamizh for charmingly executing the onscreen chemistry with the combo Dinesh & Swasika. Stunning performance by Swasika as the character and she has successfully etched a place in the hearts of the audience through her poignant presentation as Asodha.

Impressive performance by Harish Kalyan on & off the field. Special appreciation to Kaali Venkat,Sanjana,Bala Saravanan,Devadarshini,Geetha Kailasam & Tamilmani for their versatile performance.

Special mention to the camera man Dinesh Purushothaman for effectively capturing the game and the rural backdrop,Sean Roland for the soulful tracks 🎶 & G Madan for giving a completely engaging package.

Thamizharasan has triumph ed in cherishing the childhood days for all the cricket lovers through intricate moments in the movie and portrayed the beautiful message of brotherhood and true sportsman spirit in the movie.

A good engaging and a must watch entertainer especially for all cricket lovers.

#AttakathiDinesh he has been seen as "Gethu" in entire movie you couldn't recognise him as a Attakathi Dinesh, one of the finest versatile actor in Tamil Cinema, we have already witnessed his versatility in various movies such as Visaranai, Attakathi (movie that earned his first name) and Cuckoo (my personal fav). His transformation from young to old awesome he justified his role in the movie and proved he is real "Gethu".

#HarishKalyan good script selection, he is not just acted as Anbhu he lived as Anbhu. Totally different version of Harrish Kalyan in this movie. We can easily connect with him. All round performance.

#Swasika man what a women, she is kind of women all men wants. Her chemistry with Dinesh worked well. Her scenes with her morher-in-law awesome.

Perfect cast selection, all are justified their roles they are lived as characters.

I am a movie buff and I love watching, enjoying, celebrating and even suggesting good movies and never failed to appreciate them. But never posted a review in public e forums and this is gonna be my first movie review on the public forums.

Lubbar Banthu movie is really entertaining to watch. It's a well made sports family drama. A must watch with family and friends.

Kudos to the director, the entire crew and cast for this really nice movie.

Women empowerment and community barrier breaking are the fantastic touches in the storyline.

A treat for Cricket Lovers!!

I wasn't really keen on watching another movie about petty ego clash that escalates but this turned out to be a very sweet one despite that premise. The love for cricket, the importance and dynamics of different familial relationships, how caste works in Tamil Nadu, etc are presented with enough intensity but all along being an almost feel-good comedy drama. Attakkathi Dinesh really looked young and middle-aged just by the difference of grey in his beard, I don't think there was too much extra makeup or any digital touchups for that but maybe I'm wrong, nonetheless, I was pretty impressed by that. Watching Swasika as the mother of a grown woman was also surprisingly effective, she was really impressive in this. She should get praise for something like this except for something like Chathuram which I couldn't even watch past the first 30 minutes.

I really wish I had seen this movie in a packed theater in Tamil Nadu. I was lucky to find this back in the theater because last week it was already washed out from the theaters where it got released around me and today there were exactly 4 people including me in the theater. There's so much in this movie that would've been way more effective with a crowd and also a few bits that felt a bit underwhelming would've been not so noticeable if the other parts gave that impact that a crowd can give.

Fantastic movie ...no lag no boring just enjoyed fully All team work ...cast and crew all good especially dinesh rocked. It's a treat for cricket lovers and as well family elements such as love bond emotions etc.

Wow what a movie after a long time in Tamil... I went with zero expectations and liked t movie so much . Movie had everything- emotions , comedy and serious matches which was engaging. Whole theatre was celebrating the movie so much.. In Bangalore , that too after 6 days of release , it was running house full . The BGM of captain sir gave a different vibes in theatre. A very good movie for all age groups. Captain BGM for Dinesh and Vijay BGm for Harris Kalyan was just awesome . Everyone did justice to their roles in terms of acting. Cast crew was very well selected . Sean Roland music was so apt. We can't stop it watching once , will definitely go for second time.

Anbu is a talented cricketer who aspires to join his favorite Jolly Friends team but is denied the chance because of his caste. Jolly Friends team captain Karuppaiya, joins Anbu to another team and they play against Sachin Boys which had the star batsman Gethu, who plays cricket by lying to his wife Yashodai. Anbu figures out Gethu is weak in off side. A decade later, Anbu is yet to be included in Jolly Friends team, gets to play against Gethu and succeeds in bowling him out. This leads to an ego clash between them and to make it worse, Anbu is in love with Gethu's daughter Durga. How does Anbu win over Gethu and convince Yashodai to allow him to marry Durga, forms rest of the story.

This adds to the list of films I regret missing out in theater. The debutante writer-director Tamizharasan Pachamuthu impresses big time by keeping the story grounded. Though the story revolves around Anbu and Gethu, it is the supporting cast that gets to shine big time. The film begins with Anbu being denied the opportunity to join Jolly Friends and team, this remains the main plot and the way the director circled back to it in the end, though convenient, leaves a positive impact. The scenes involving Yashodai and her mother-in-law followed Yashodai and Gethu were indeed the highlight. This was melodrama done right. With the right casting and a tight screenplay, Lubber Pandhu turns out to be a solid watch and a must watch film.

The movie is not boring even for a minute and maintains its pace and your interest from the very beginning till the end. I loved watching a sport based movie after a very long time.

Go watch it for its simplicity and its spirit! I didn't know a single actor in this movie except for the losing team's captain who has acted in a lot of movies. But each character did their best and deserves an award!
