Avis à la une
I watched this movie on the plane because I've always had a deep fondness for *Bolero*. It's a piece of classical music that used to accompany me during countless nights of studying or doing homework. Hearing it again brought back a wave of memories and a familiar sense of calm.
I'm always drawn to films like this-ones that portray talented individuals dedicating themselves completely to a single pursuit. There's something incredibly moving about watching someone pour all their time, energy, and emotion into perfecting just one thing, no matter how long it takes or how many obstacles they face. That kind of focus and persistence is not only fascinating but also deeply admirable.
In a world full of distractions, the ability to concentrate so fully on one goal feels almost rare-and perhaps that's exactly why it stands out so much. To me, the starting point of any true success often begins with that kind of unwavering focus.

In this film, the composer's struggles are depicted in several, mainly deeper layers. The acting of lead actor Raphaël Personnaz is impressive, as he conducts and plays the piano convincingly.
That's also nice, especially for musicians, who I hope will be attracted by this film.
Maurice Ravel suffers from a brain disease. You get the feeling that time and the world are passing him by a bit. With the exception of certain moments when the composer intervenes if he feels that his music is being neglected.
The atmosphere and decoration of interbellum Paris in the 1920s is fantastic!
Unfortunately, we don't see more of his America voyage and meetings with composers such as Gershwin, Debussy and other contemporaries.
An absolute must, especially for those who like historical music films!

The film tells the story of a great composer: Maurice Ravel, the author of "Boléro", the masterpiece ballet. But we find out from the film that the legendary creator didn't want to be known just for this music. He wrote many more musical works. And he didn't write even more works before his life was ruined by a car accident and subsequent failed brain surgery led to his death. The last thing he will hear will be his most popular work, which continues to be heard in every corner of the Earth. Maybe you're not related to the music and the art so you might not hear anything about Maurice Ravel, but there's no doubt you've heard the very tune for many times in your life and it's why you need to know the story told by this film.
