Good Christmas fun

I give ITV a lot of credit for producing something that can be classed as genuine 'family entertainment' over the Christmas period and although 'Panto!' isn't perfect it does manage to be easy going and light hearted and that's what you want at Christmas.

John Bishop is a comedian who divides opinion but I think he gives a good performance in the lead role and we are prepared to go with him, regardless of how mad things get.

The supporting cast are what steal it though with Samantha Sparo and Mark Benton being the big names though honourable mention must go to Chesney Hawkes who is the butt of many jokes throughout the piece.

Overall a good bit of light hearted fun. Lets hope ITV can produce something of a similar ilk this Christmas.

Anecdotes
Although the external shots of the characters looking at the theatre billboard were filmed at The Grand Theatre Lancaster (where the film is set) the front view shown is of an entirely different venue - the Coronation Theatre in Ulverston, which has a more imposing frontage. A newly installed statue erected to the Cumbrian town's most famous son - Stan Laurel, along with his comedy partner Oliver Hardy, is clearly visible in several scenes.
