I’ll admit to feeling a little – no, let’s be honest, a Lot – of trepidation about watching Kill. I’m very squeamish when it comes to violence and genre films are generally not my thing. But I was curious because the film comes from a partnership of production houses Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment (headed up by Guneet Monga and Achin Jain). Guneet Monga as a producer didn’t surprise me, as her productions range from Oscar winning short films to grittier films like That Girl in Yellow Boots, Shaitan, and Peddlers. My curiousity got the better of me when I was offered a screener to watch Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s latest film, Kill, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023, as part of their “Midnight Madness” programming, which specializes in (according to the TIFF website) “the best in action, horror, shock and fantasy cinema”.

Last week, we saw a gory, violent clip from the action thriller Kill – an appropriate piece of marketing, since Kill is being described as “India’s goriest and most intensely violent film.” Lionsgate is set to give the film a theatrical release in the United States on July 4th, and with that date right around the corner, a full trailer has now arrived online. Bhat’s Hindi-language action film Kill recently premiered in the Midnight Madness section at this year’s TIFF and sold in a mid-seven figure deal to Lionsgate for the U.S and UK. The studio is lining up a wide theatrical release in 2024.
