Avis à la une
One of the best drama series of all times. Can't remember when I last cried watching a TV series, but "Halt and Catch Fire" made me sob. Wonderful characters. Compelling mixture of fact and fiction. Great actors.
I lived through most of the computer history that is being presented in the plot-line, and I have to say: it is SPOT ON. I will remain a fan forever.

I'm blown away by how much I enjoyed Halt and Catch Fire. It started a little slow but I stayed with it after reading all the great reviews by both critics and the audience and I'm glad I did because after a few episodes I couldn't stop watching. I binged through the entire series as fast as I could. It takes place in the early 80's and follows a small group of people who come together and risk everything to build a computer that's going to change the world as we know it. The cast is fantastic led by the always terrific Lee Pace, Scott McNairy, Makenzie Davis and Kerry Bishé. I'm warning you, if you're going to start watching this to give yourself enough time because once you start it you're not going to want to stop.
One of the best written shows to have ever lasted 4 wonderful seasons. Amazing from start to finish. With seasons 1 & 4 being my personal favorites!
I suppose we should be grateful that this wasn't cancelled after one or two seasons which is what generally happens to the best shows, but it clearly deserved more seasons.
This is one of those shows that has everything; cast, writing, production design, performances, and the subject matter is super compelling.
That said, I suspect the female audience wasn't as interested in the tech aspects of the show as the male audience, which I would think resulted in low viewership ratings.
What a shame.

This is a show you come back to and re-watch, because it's that good. It so fun to watch the character development of the four leads over the years. The soundtrack, the clothes and computers - all period details from the 80s and 90s are lovingly curated. The thoughtful, passionate debates between characters along the lines of the West Wing (my all time favorite show). The female characters shine as complex and flawed, there are no two-dimensional heroes or villains. Great writing, great acting.

- Anecdotes"HCF" ("Halt and Catch Fire") is from one of a number of lists of humourous assembly command mnemonics. Others are "BrH" ("Branch and Hang" and "DWIM" ("Do What I Meant"). {DWIM, if it existed, would be the single most useful programming command ever.} HCF refers to a computer machine code instruction that causes the computer's central processing unit (CPU) to cease meaningful operation, typically requiring a restart of the computer.
