Payback

English is not my first language and I'm really bad at writing a reivew but I had to create an IMDB account to recommend this TV show.

I have just finished watching the first four episodes. I had to rate 10 because right now it is 10/10 for me. Every episode is very tense and addictive. This is a perfect tv show for binge-watching.

The genre of this show on IMDB says simply 'drama', which is misleading. This is more like action, crime, thriller, drama. Fast paced, this show is dedicated to its main storyline. It does not digress. It feels like there's no fillers at all.

The ways the actors speak are superb. Their voices and their language(like using dialect or personal habits and vocabulary) show their characters perfectly. It is regrettable that this will be lost on the ears of foreigners.

I watched Payback because of the actor Moon Chae Won. She is amazing and talented. My first kdrama is Flower of Evil. Actor Moon played a wife and a detective. Because of this drama, I got hooked to all her movies. Payback is a very good drama but it could have been better if actor Moon Chaewon had more action scenes. She is the only one that draws my attention and in my view, she is the one that makes Payback interesting. If not for her, the drama would be very bland and boring. The director could have cut out some of the scenes from the past because to me it's so boring. He needs to substitute these with the present and put actor Moon in more.

The veteran actor, Lee Sun Kyun, delivered a powerful performance that anchored the show, as expected. It's really heartbreaking to lose such a big talent. Rest in piece. The drama didn't exactly break new ground with its plot or characters, but it managed to hold one's attention through its well paced narrative, occasional power shifts and a few unexpected twists thrown in. The cast does their thing, but some of the characters feel a bit like cardboard cutouts, lacking some life in them. While the drama dipped into melodrama sometimes but it struck a balance between suspense and storytelling. Overall, it's a pretty decent drama around corruption and power struggles.
