Seth Rogen in The Studio (2025)

Good for some laughs

The Studio is another hit in a long line of hits for Apple TV+. Apple has been absolutely killing it with all their shows and The Studio is no different. I knew this was going to be good by the cast alone. What a cast! If leads like Seth Rogen, Catherine O'Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders aren't enough, there are plenty of huge cameos like Martin Scorsese, Zac Efron, Bryan Cranston, Anthony Mackie, Charlize Theron, Paul Dano, Usher, etc. Rogen and Evan Goldberg direct all 10 episodes. This is one of the better shows to come out this year so far and I'd be shocked if this doesn't win a ton of awards come award season. The only negative is that we have to wait a week between shows because this is definitely a show that you want to binge.

It's a fun watch

I've been looking forward to The Studio ever since I first heard about it. I had huge expectations considering how great the cast is and I can say without a doubt that this series not only met those expectations but surpassed them in every way. I personally like Seth Rogen but this isn't his normal humor so even if you don't like his usual stuff, you should enjoy this show. This is right there with the best stuff Rogen has ever done. It actually might be his best. It's not just Rogen that shines either, the entire cast is brilliant. The cameos in this is full of A-list celebrities that makes the show just that much better. It's satire on the depiction of Hollywood is spot on. Even though it's a comedy, it's true to the point of how Hollywood continues to put out junk and not care as long as it keeps making money. It's easily one of the best new shows of 2025...it was absolutely hilarious. Each episode will literally make you laugh out loud. They already renewed it for another season so I hope they plan on doing several more seasons after that too.

Hilarious, Sharp, and Unbelievably Well-Directed - Seth Rogen Strikes Gold

The Studio is nothing short of a comedic masterclass. I went in expecting to laugh (it's Seth Rogen, after all), but I wasn't prepared for just how smart, layered, and downright brilliant this show would be. It's not just funny - it's clever. The kind of funny that sticks with you, with punchlines that land hard and then somehow keep echoing in your head days later.

The characters are instantly lovable, weirdly relatable, and played with such precision and charm that you forget they're actors - it feels like you're eavesdropping on real chaos. And the writing? Absolutely top-tier. Every episode zips by with whip-smart dialogue, hilarious set pieces, and a surprising amount of heart.

But what really blew me away was the direction. The pacing, the visual timing of the jokes, the stylish flourishes - it's clear this isn't just a funny show, it's a well-made one. Seth Rogen has crafted something that's not only hilarious but cinematic and fresh.

Hands down, one of the most original and entertaining comedies I've seen in ages. It's bold, it's brilliant, and it knows exactly what it's doing.

Going for Curb - sometimes landing

The Studio is the closest someone has gotten to Curb Your Enthusiasm spiritually. Don't get me wrong, this show's first season is not as good as Curb's, but it's evident in the way the show is set up that it is slightly mimicking David's style. There's a pattern in the set-up of episodes that I'm on board with.

A few episodes in season 1 have REALLY nailed David's Curb-style humor. The best two episodes of season 1, episodes 6 & 7, delivered on their set-up's most effectively.

There's a beauty in the way each episode operates largely independently of one another. You can watch any episode on its own and enjoy the experience.

The cameos in this show are excellent. Rogan & Goldberg clearly have a lot of fans in the community, and pull off an Entourage-number of cameos that enhance the episode they're in. I deeply enjoy this show and think it will continue improving.

It's fine. Entertaining, but too goofy.

I was really looking forward to this show while it was being promoted.

Then the first episode was really good.

Since then, it's just been kind of... mediocre

I feel like it would be great if Seth Rogan was like 20% less of a bumbling goof. (I understand that's the premise, just seems unrealistic).

A studio head falling all over the set, being obnoxious about giving a note, pretending to be a coat hanging in an actors trailer... it's just dumb.

The cast is great. Just feels like it should've been a lot better than it is. Maybe it'll finish strong. I don't really have high hopes as it just gets goofier and goofier as it goes.

More accurate synopsis

Fremdschämen

Verb: (standard; used naturally in western Germany and Switzerland)

(reflexive, informal) to feel secondhand embarrassment; to feel ashamed about something someone else has done; to be embarrassed because someone else has embarrassed themselves (and doesn't notice); to cringe.

(weak, third-person singular present schämt fremd, past tense schämte fremd, past participle fremdgeschämt, auxiliary haben)

If you love Ben Stiller movies and other cringe comedy, this is your masterclass. The only way I was able to continue the series was by happening upon a revelation that Matt actually does deserve everything he gets.

This could have been really good...

...but it really isn't. When Hollywood decides to stare into its own navel again, the bar needs to be much higher. Honestly, I'd have settled for "just okay," but the show commits one cardinal sin: there's nothing to like about its main character. Matt Remick (Seth Rogen) isn't just irritating, he's genuinely insufferable. A douchebag wrapped in a smile, utterly devoid of redeeming qualities. He's not competent as a studio head, not decent as a boss, and useless as a friend. Who exactly am I supposed to root for here? Probably cinema itself, since at least the series exposes how rotten the business can be (barely exaggerated). But really, we've seen all of this done before-smarter, sharper, and definitely funnier.

Watch it if you have absolutely nothing else to do, but honestly, you'd spend your time better writing snarky reviews about forgettable shows.

A show about how movies are made

Seth Rogan plays as a new movie studio head in charge of film production for "Continental Studios." This show highlights the film making process and the behind the scenes chaos that occurs. Some episodes are better than others. A few laughs here and there but ultimately the film making education the audience gets with each episode is well worth the watch.

Although this is a comedy, I can imagine a lot of these episodes are inspired by real events or similar problems film makers go through. Seth Rogan does a great job with acting and casting people who sometimes play as themselves. If you like movies I think you'll find this show very interesting and eye opening.

So damn great!

The perfect amount of spice, intensity and filmmaking mashed with amazing cast throughout some of which aren't even actors! I should've watched sooner I've been a fan of Seth Rogen for 25 years crazy how overbearing his character is in The Studio at least episode 2. I so wish I could be on a set in any capacity except for how overwhelming it seems.

My mom has been wanting to watch this usually I'd be into this first I guess I was into other stuff for a bit The Studio is so worth it, deserving of high ratings, and most things on Apple TV are magnificent. The dialogue is so new generation, I love it all.

I have a lot of stuff to do but this show is really good

I mean it's just really good. Super funny, super fast and so much interesting (for me) commentary on the entertainment industry. The only thing that confused me is that Seth goes from a semi low-level position to a studio head, and the amount of work they do is actually insane. I mean maybe I'm the odd one out on this but I had no idea how insane that job is-and Matt didn't really seem stressed about his experience level. That doesn't really take a way from anything though, and I like the fact that they don't focus on his journey per-say but do so much cool stuff about the reality of filmmaking. The show also has me so stressed.. it's just really well made. Ok everyone else's reviews sound a lot smarter but the cast is mind blowing and I feel like this type of thing hasn't really been done before. A weird feeling you get when watching tv about making tv. No more notes.

Not your typical Seth Rogan

Too many people see the name Seth Rogan and expect the same slap stick, stoner comedies that he made back in the 2010s. Yes. He was made for that era and we have him to thank for so many hilarious movies.

But this isn't that. And you need to know that going into this.

I feel like the character he plays in The Studio is probably incredibly reflective of who he is, how he views himself, and then how the world perceives him. This show is his way of communicating to the world that he's an artist. He deeply appreciates the art of film and every aspect that goes into it (see The Oner for example).

If you're going to watch this, you need to be prepared for a show that deeply appreciates film, but also wants to bring lightheartedness and laughter into it.

Apple throwing insane money at things finally hits

Acting ,directing, and style are all on point. If anything it's too ambitious thank god for that apple money because they pull it off. The epic shots sequences and amazing locations are ambitious and reminds you of what film should be . It's so smart that Seth Rogan is making fun studio excess while shooting in excess . The comedy is real and the acting is amazing. I'm sure writing this was as much fun as making it , weird Apple the "new comer" is doing something so creative that the old studios haven't. The dichotomy of this whole project makes it funny but also make it intriguing how is Apple able to pull this together is impressive. Hats off to the whole team it's a new iteration of extras but a lot more advanced. The jokes are smart and they got actors embroidered in their own issues to come and make fun of it . Very smart and funny.

Uniquely Hilarious!!

I am a huge fan of both Catherine and Kathryn, anything they are acting in I am watching! They do not disappoint in The Studio!

I wasn't sure what to expect at first. It's a really cool take on the behind the scenes of film making. I got really hooked after episode one; however, the Ron Howard episode made me laugh harder than I have in years! Brilliant acting! Anthony Mackie, Seth Rogen, Ron Howard, oh my gosh! I laughed so hard! I actually watched it twice in a row!

If you're looking for a lighthearted show to make you laugh, this is it! Unique, perfect casting, quirky, hilarious and fun! Definitely check it out!

I love the concept & actors, but

So there are a lot of things I love about this. The setting. The actors.

But it is the most cringe worthy show I've ever seen. It's so bad that there are times it is unbearable to watch.

Seth Rogen's character is just way too over the top stupid and paranoid. There are a lot of stupid people in the world but this just cuts the cake. One would have to be Donald Trump level arrogance to ignore every ounce of wisdom from every good friend or coworker. Yet he does just that and he's not an arrogant character.

The first episode and the Ron Howard episode were the best of the five I've seen so far. But it's too hard to watch.

Humor wrapped in smartness further coated in brilliance

You have no time to think, "Really? Another Hollywood-esque show?" The first minute of the first episode of the first season ensnares you in a way that denies you to consider that thought.

When I rewind a scene to laugh out loud again, I know I'm viewing a winner.

For starters. The camera work is incredible. Some DPs pan crazily in scenes to be artful. This DP obviously swish-pans when it's meaningful, thus artful. Kudos to the lighting and grip crews as well.

This series is written, directed, and performed with enough brilliance to give me a guilt trip for hitting the play button on the next episode when I might should be doing chores, cleaning the kitchen, or walking the dogs.

Greatest cast ensemble. I didn't look at the credits before watching the first episode, which awarded me with the surprising introduction of some players.

Kudos to you all. I hope you're enjoying yourselves perform as much as I am viewing.

Rip-roaring riffs on Hollywood

As Episode 1 of "The Studio" (2025 release; 10 episodes ranging from 26 to 45 min each) opens, Matt is on an action film set. Not long thereafter, Patty, the head of the Continental film studio, is fired. Matt and others all vie for being named the new studio head. At this point we are 10 minutes into Episode 1.

Couple of comments: this series features Seth Rogen as the lead actor, the co-creator, the co-writer, the co-director and the co-executive producer. Sure, several others are big contributors in this series. But Rogen has his fingers all over this thing, and that is actually good. The series provides rip-roaring riffs on Hollywood, and no-one is safe. The most memorable moments of the first 3 episodes come from real-life people: a brilliant Martin Scorsese in Episode 1, Sarah Polley in Episode 2, and Ron Howard in Episode 3. The first 2 episodes made me laugh so loud, I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard.

"The Studio" is 3 episodes into its 10 episode cycle currently playing on Apple TV. The remaining 7 episodes will be released over the next 7 weeks. This series is currently rate 95% Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, which feels a little too high for me. If you are a fan of Seth Rogen or of Hollywood comedy, I'd readily suggest you check this out, and draw your own conclusion.

*UPDATE* i have now seen 5 episodes, and the drop off since the initial 2 episodes has been dramatic. Hence my updated rating to 6 stars.

THANK U

Man, The Studio is such a breath of fresh air. Finally, a show that doesn't waste time with all that PC garbage and just goes for the laughs. And holy crap, does it deliver-I was cracking up so hard I almost fell off the couch. Kathryn Hahn and the cast are on fire, poking fun at Hollywood in the best way. It's sharp, it's bold, and it doesn't hold back. If you're over sanitized TV and want something that's legit funny, this is your show. 10/10, had me grinning like an idiot the whole time. Watch it! Watch it now! It's worth it and I hope we can get back to great and funny, not dragged on forever, tv shows.

Birdman Vibes

I'm 15 minutes into the first episode and I feel like I'm slightly transported back to Birdman (one of my favorite movies). Antonio Sánchez does his thing with the music, also the camera tracking seems to have the same style. I find it interesting that the series begins with so many iconic faces from cinema, it's something that makes film fans (like me) feel more familiar with what this new series proposes, at least it's quite different from the last Seth series I saw (Pam & Tommy). Maybe watching the first fifteen minutes doesn't merit posting a review but that's what I feel, this seems to be a good start, let's see what happens.

Fantastic

I'll be very sad if this one doesn't come back for another season. Nevertheless, I imagine the showrunners have been thrilled to see their work faithfully spring to life, vision in-tact. Very seldom do you watch a show free of a blemish episode here and there... such is not the case with The Studio. From beginning to finale, every episode is a standalone wild ride to somewhere new. Whether you are a fan of Seth Rogen or otherwise, so long as you share even a tenth of this show's love of television and cinema you will find The Studio to be a worthwhile watch. Come not for any overarching storyline or plot but for the old school Hollywood ride.

GOAT!

With just two episodes released, The Studio is already shaping up to be one of the greatest satirical comedies of all time. If the rest of the series maintains this level of wit, and perfectly timed humor, it could easily earn GOAT status. The writing is clever, the pacing is tight, and every joke lands with precision. Seth Rogen delivers a hilarious performance. The satire is on point. The way it skewers the entertainment industry is both brilliant and refreshing, exposing its absurdity in the funniest way possible. It's smart, bold, and unafraid to take risks-exactly what great satire should be. If this momentum continues, The Studio could be a game-changer in the genre.

Good but it bums me out

Seth Rogan plays the head of a big movie studio. He loves movies. He also ruins movies.

I tend to like these inside baseball Hollywood comedies - I loved Episodes and The Larry Sanders Show and The Franchise - and I thought I was going to love The Studio as well. The first episode was very, very funny, the cast is first rate, and the writing was sharp and satirical.

But at the end of that first episode, I also felt kind of depressed. Because what had happened was really pretty sad.

The second episode was also quite funny, and well acted, and sharply written, and even though it was about a little thing, also depressing.

The third episode was equally uncomfortable, but less funny, and that's when I decided to stop watching.

I've been trying to think why I feel this way. Arguably The Larry Sanders Show was just as dark and depressing, but at the same time, most of what happened was far more trivial than ruining an artist's work for profits or stupidity. Episodes was also depressing conceptually, but you had someone to root for.

And I think a lot of it is, it's hard to root for Rogan. He sincerely cares, but his lack of self-awareness means he will always do everything wrong. The first episode was less depressing than the second because at least he knew he was being awful.

So I'm rating this a 7, because I think it's well done, but subjectively it feels more like a 6 to me, because I could never fully enjoy it. Still, I wouldn't talk anyone out of trying it for themselves.

Self indulgent.

I kind of half watched this because the first episode was free on a service and I saw how well reviewed it was and despite not being a fan of Seth Rogen I found myself getting interest... This was the first episode you understand! Script seemed sharp and all those stellar cameos! I signed up to watch the rest of the show and after episode two I was beginning to regret it as I was rapidly losing interest. As usual with anything with Seth Rogan in it it began to get more and more over-excitable and loud and before long Seth was using his Fozzy bear voice all over the place and that's one of the things I detest about him as an actor. It has started looking like it's meant to be an inside joke made to impress planet Hollywood. I suspect the truth is far more ruthless.
