What an exceptional drama and an ingenious screenplay!
What a scream against war!
What a crying loud voice for peace and love!
It's one of the best kdrama I've seen, and I've seen a lot so far!
Lee Seung Gi and Ha Ji Won were so excellent, so great, each one of them performing in two types of attitude! Such a superb acting from both of them!
Lee Seung Gi, you are the King of our Hearts! I love you!
It's a series that takes your breath away. You won't have a chance to get bored, not for a single moment. You might watch the whole series in one shot!
Due to its message, supported by great acting, I consider this series as one of the most precious gems of kdrama.
Don't miss it! :)

North Korea is a mysterious place to me. This drama unveils the life of north korean to me. The plot is creative to let birth to a king in south korea. The story is rich with mutiple storylines. Besides romance there are politics, thrillers, action.
Female lead is my favourite action actress. The character of male lead is also menly. I like very much his reaction when knowing that his wife has miscarriage. So brave and musculine. His transition from a playboy to a decisive king is so natural and encouraging.
A cute and young female lead prompts me to see the drama again and again.

This 2012 series is better than King Eternal Monarch but that isn't saying that much. Fans of CLOY may want to check this one out because there is a North South thing. It's cruder since it's from 2012 but you can find some humour about the differences. Politics is one of the main themes with digs at foreign powers. It can get tedious at times. The start is the better part of the series with some exciting parts and good action here and there. Quite a stellar cast with Oscar winning actress YYJ playing the queen mom. The leads Lee
Seung Gi and Ha Ji Won have chemistry because they both have more tanned complexions and South East Asian features. HJW is believable in her action scenes. Interesting secondary romance between the soldier and the princess. The villain is comical as his is bunch of international bad people.
The fault is the drag during the WOC games and the kidnapping and politics. This show should have been the standard 16 episodes. Then the boring parts could have been edited out. There is more English and other languages spoken to give it an international political drama feel.

I'm a bit of a Lee Seung-gi fangirl so was looking forward to this but I'm finding it a bit hard to swallow with the tough as nails army girl going all gooey eyed saccharine all the time in a very Hello Katty way. The plotline is good, the story is interesting, the acting.... half is good (korean) the other half (non-koreans) not so good. The story is a bit implausible and IRL it just wouldn't happen without major ramifications, but this is a kdrama and it's just how it is in fiction. It gets better as it goes along, so just keep watching, even if it is exhausting.
I picked certain extras were Australian/New Zealandish before they even opened their mouths due to the wooden/cardboard nature Australian & kiwi actors generally have (it's like they overthink it and worry too much about what people think).

The first episodes of this drama are ok if you ignore the occasional nonsense. Then, half way through it, you have to put up with old fashioned script tricks to keep on watching... (It's a bad omen when you think about all the episodes still remaining ) The last part of the drama, you just keep the fast forward key pressed most of the time to avoid the embarrassment.
In the end, I can only think: thank God Korea is a republic.
That said, except for the "pseudo americans" and the female lead, the acting is pretty amazing.
