Joshua Barrett is as he should be' in 2017 Cheery Point. In this small American town citizens have conformed to a welfare program originally created to deter the social unrest stemming from the Cold War. Hailed as the 'penicillin of its day' the enzyme Torpase is taken daily while attached to the abdomen to eliminate all psychological and physical stressers. These citizens, known as 'pasers', simply exist; the need and knowledge of art, religion and emotional empathy becomes moot. JoshuaÂ’s life centers on a habitual workday as a photographer at BrotzkyÂ’s Media, a company that mettles around with very little due to the effects of Torpase and the lack of interest in stylistic/colorful graphics.

However, this lifestyle is shattered for Joshua when he is taken hostage by Albert, the last priest of the Roman Catholic Church. Albert introduces him to a resistance whose members show emotion openly, commonly referred to as 'springers'. This group of individuals and their actions are regarded as dangerous, illegal and easy to identify by Cheery PointÂ’s mayor and his swat-like following at the Torpase Distribution Division (T.D.D). JoshuaÂ’s criticism of this movement diminish as Albert enlightens him to the point of emotional awareness and a fuller understanding of the world around him, along with the help of a handful of other fellow 'springers'. His path collides with Becca Reynolds, a young woman who is haunted with an overwhelming need to continue Â“pasingÂ” to quell her issues with depression, despite her desperate desire to be without. In the mix also is Corey Sarte, a survivalist in search of his sister. Joshua quickly finds himself with a decision to make: return to the mayor's "civilized society" or enlist the help of the 'springers' to demobilize the T.D.D factory and restore sentimentality to Cheery Point.

Confusing interpretation of a world of government mind control on drugs

What on earth did I just watch? I waited bewildered for some lucid thought to weave this into a coherent plot, but no you guys rode it out to the closing credits.

A confusing take on an alternate universe dystopia where government mind control is fueled by big pharmaceutical companies in order to make a more productive workforce. Would ring true to real life if there were drugs powerful enough to not need to be supplemented with rampant consumerism.

If you have ever wanted to see a online conspiracy video as a movie with a budget of $1000, then this film is definitely for you.

A world where night flashes into daylight in the time it takes to walk a driveway, and where punches sound like they're from an smart-phone sound effects application.

Well done, I literally could not tear my eyes away from the screen!

Seriously. Sit all the way through and I guarantee that it will make just as much sense at the end as it did in the beginning.

Awful Acting

The idea the film attempted to portray could easily make a good film, and may well have been the basis for the 2014 film the Giver. Unfortunately, it was executed very poorly. The acting punctuated the overall lack of talent of direction. The production value of the film was OK, the camera quality was decent however there were several scenes where the audio sounded a bit like a high school project, when combined with the music it was nearly impossible to here the dialog, which may not have been a bad thing.

All in all I think the Giver took the idea of this film and added all of the missing pieces to make a good film, that being said there is a clear budget difference.

I am sad to say that this film is not watchable due to the acting and direction quality. I can not recommend it though the idea behind it was good.

Predictive Programming?

This movie of 2013, is eerily predictive of some of today's real life headlines about the zombie apocalypse, real threat of things like forced vaccines challenges our right to control our own bodies, our own minds. Ai to learn everything about you so it can think for you. The primal fear of being controlled in every aspect if your life and the disregard of the basic need for joy make this movie a dystopian nightmare that has enough elements of possibility to induce some long lasting hypervigilence.
