Cheesy but sweet...

Romance. Christian. Cheesy but sweet! Not for everyone, but if you enjoy Hallmark flicks (and Christian films), you'll probably enjoy this IMHO. Really liked Jake Allyn (as Dawson) He said a lot with his eyes and body language, and he's adorable. I wish the writing, directing and acting were stronger, but it got a little better as it went along. And there were definitely plot holes, especially in regards to HIPAA (releasing health info to others). This is adapted from a Karen Kingsbury book (Christian author) and this is the first of her books that she produced under her own production company. I think the director/co-writer, and some other people that contributed to the film, are related to Mrs. Kingsbury as well. Definitely wouldn't give it a 9 or 10, but it doesn't deserve a 1 or 2 either IMHO! (5 from my hubby, 6 from me...but I do enjoy Hallmark movies...LOL)

Faith-based story of family loss and healing.

Yes, this is a mildly faith-based movie but it doesn't pound religion towards the viewer. It is clean, no bad language, no guns, no sex, all of which makes a refreshingly entertaining movie. Some of the dialog is substandard, some of the acting substandard, but that doesn't really matter in this story. My wife and I enjoyed it, at home on DVD from our public library.

The lead is Sarah Fisher as London Quinn, she is a happy and curious young lady, living at home to save money so that she can build her dream home. It helps that her friend from childhood is Jake Allyn as architect Dawson Gage. It is clear that he would like more from the relationship but she treats him almost like a brother.

A tragedy happens and it comes to light that London's mom and dad had a second invitro embryo that may or may not have become a brother or sister of London's some 20+ years ago, so much of the story involves that hunt for a possible sibling.

We found some things puzzling and realize that, in real life, what they did would be difficult, but hey, it is a fictional story so we just went with it.

Interestingly to us, Lynn Collins who plays London's mother Louise Quinn, grew up near us and went to Klein High School, just a few miles away. She doesn't have the recognition of many 40-something actresses but she is very good in the role.

Also Sarah Fisher is an accomplished songwriter and singer and does a short duet with her dad in the movie, but if one were to look her up online would find out her grandmother was an opera singer and young Ms Fisher does a rendition of "Think of Me" from "Phantom" and she does it better than some of the singers who have starred as Christine.

Love great american family movies but this one was just ok

I'm a fan of great American family and love Christian faith based movies. In that aspect I liked that the movie was faith based and showed many Christian values. But being a faith based movie I found it frustrating areas. Like Dawson loosing his girlfriend to a car accident who he loved greatly and understandably is grief stricken but then after finding out his girlfriend had a twin adopted to another family at birth Dawson going out on a search to find his girlfriends twin and tell her she had a twin sister and different parents thst kind of turned me off.. Though his intentions were innocent it still felt almost like he was stalking his girlfriends sister and didn't think how it would affect her or her adopted families lives by interfering and revealing to his dead girlfriends sister that she had another mom and dad and a sister. Also the way it was handled by London sister when she found out by Dawson that she had a sister was not very cool. She was very angry at her adoptive parents and I guess thsts understandable but she totally blocked them.out and it was frustrating to watch how she left her adopted parents had no contact and remained distant almost like making them suffer no care for how her actions were affecting and hurting her adoptive parents while she was enjoying her life and time with her real parents and falking for Dawson. I dint know why but I just felt a bit frustrated and little upset by her actions cause I thought she should have had more thought and care to how her actions would affect her adopted parents. The adopted parents were the parents who raised her loved her and gave her a great life even her real.mom told her she needed to call them let them.know she forgave them and that she was OK but she let her adopted parents suffer with uncertainty and sadness for most of movie while she was having a great time with her real parents and especially with dawson.. thst turned me off the most and made the movie substandard for me. Im.glad Dawson finally told her she needed to think of her adopted folks and go home and I'm glad she finally listened to her real mom and Dawson and did go home to her family thst raised snd loved her all those years from when she was just a baby. Other than that the movie was nice sweet and had some good scenes but I just kept getting frustrated everything I saw how much her adopted parents were hurting and she allowed that to go on way to long.

Same same, but different

Or is she? No pun intended - strong love and passion seems to manifest itself ... if that is the message the movie is trying to send and give the viewer. Or you just accept that this is a movie (I would assume based on a novel - about love and all that stuff) ... and that you just have to suspend your disbelief so you are able to enjoy it and what it has to tell you.

There is some drama in the beginning and then we have a very ... well the situation is strange to say the least. Even cringe at times as some might say. Poor Dude who thought he had something - just for someone else to swoop in - pretending to just wanting to close a chapter ... we know better. There is no surprise ... but if you are not too much of a cynic, you will embrace the movie and its message of love ...

WORST MOVIE I'VE SEEN

This was the most cringey movie I have ever watched. Imagine a hallmark movie but with less of a plot and even worse acting. The acting was so fake, it felt like was watching a high school project students made for extra credit. The plot made absolutely no sense. They did a terrible job at making you feel connected or care about any of the characters. I did not care what happened to anyone in this movie. This "love story" made no sense at all and the entire movie felt like an half baked idea that someone how got enough funding to turn into a movie. I am really wondering to myself what did I just watch. Are all these rating are fake?? Did they watch the same movie I saw??!! I would recommend seeing any other movie besides this one.

Feel Good Faith Based Movie

You'll most likely enjoy or dislike this movie. If you are a believed, then go see it! It's refreshing to watch a movie that has Christian values infused throughout along with no profanity or violence.

Even if you are not a Christian or do not believe there is a God, I encourage you to check out this movie. It's a cute love story. The scenery is beautiful and the movie proceeds at a good pace.

I cried at different times during the movie, which show the storyline is believable and compelling.

The movie industry is filled with demonic and violent movies that are harmful to your soul. Fill your mind and heart with a movie that is touching, positive, and enjoyable.

Wow. Absolute garbage.

First of all, I should say that I'm not the target audience for this movie. I took my wife to this for a date night because she wanted to see it. With that being said, this movie is awful. I tried to give it a chance .... But the acting was horrible and the story was just ridiculous. I found myself actually laughing out loud at some of the "serious" scenes because the acting was bad. There was no character building, no plot that made any sense, and nothing that made me like ANY part of this movie. Like others have mentioned, it was like watching a bad Hallmark after school special movie. Avoid this. Save your money.

objectively bad

This movie is so bad. The acting, the dialogue, the plot - all bad. Most Hallmark movies put on a better production than this movie. Lowkey kinda feel ripped off that I saw this in theaters. I wan not impressed with either love interest. The pacing is slow but yet everyone still feels under developed. What do we have to do to get a good romance movie.

I appreciated a good clean atory. I appreciated that the characters had spiritual focused lives, you don't see that too often in movies anymore.

I would love to know if the dialogue in the book is as bad as in the movie. Feels like this could have been done better.

Great clean love story.

Now, I was already a fan of the book, Someone Like You, and was very excited to see it come to life. It was a well done movie and I'm so thankful for the Christian theme that was throughout. I appreciate the team that made this movie and showed again that it doesn't have to have explicit things to make a good movie. I do feel like the book was better because things were able to be more developed, but that is usually true for any book made into a movie. I am hopeful that many people see this movie and enjoy it. If you go to the website you can actually can get a movie ticket for free from donations if you are unable to buy one. Thank you Karen Kingsbury for how you unashamedly give praises to God and your books point others to Him!! Praying this movie does the same.

such a beautiful film!!

I love this sweet story! I have loved these characters since reading the book about a year ago, and it was beautiful to see them come to life on screen! The cast that was chosen is perfect for these roles and Tyler Russell's direction of them makes it hard to believe this is his first film. I was also blown away by the locations that they shot at because each scene was absolutely gorgeous! And as a Nashville local, I loved seeing all the scenes shot around middle Tennessee. This story is a message of grace, hope, restoration, and love! I encourage you to see this movie and bring a friend! Thank you Karen Kingsbury for always using your gifts to point people to Jesus!

the replacement

Dawson Gage (Jake Allyn) and his best friend London Quinn (Sarah Fisher) have a very close relationship. Then she gets hit by a truck and dies. Her parents (Lynn Collins, Scott Reeves) reveals that London was an IVF baby and there is a twin. She tracks down Andi Allen (Sarah Fisher), but her parents (Robyn Lively, Bart Johnson) have kept her origins a secret.

The premise has a creepy factor. Dawson is essentially replacing his unresolved feelings for London with her twin. It's a weird idea, but it could still work. He could encounter the twin by chance and have it a matter of the stars. Make it magical. Instead, he is tracking her down like a creepy stalker. There is a medical reason for the search, but the movie is more interested in the romancing. The issue there is that the transplant would still work after London gets killed unless her organs got squashed. Apparently, this is a Christian movie. I couldn't really tell other than some praying. There are other issues. I think a dog can tell the difference between twins. This is mostly non-sense with a dash of blah and a creepy sensibility. Otherwise, it's fine.

disturbing

Technically, the past 4 movies I have seen were all faith-based: ORDINARY ANGELS, CABRINI, LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL (different kind of faith), and the one I'm reviewing today, SOMEONE LIKE YOU. Straight from the get-go, everything about this romance movie is problematic. This is based on a book written by the "Christian fiction Queen" Karen Kingsbury, using her new production company "Karen Kingsbury Productions". Directed by Tyler Russell (Karen's son), this is a story about a man named Dawson who is just about to escape the "Friend Zone" of his best friend London, who gets hits by a car and dies. Her parents tell him she might have an IVF sibling. He goes on a hunt (stalker mode activate!). A creepy cringey romance ensues! There are a couple of good emotional scenes, but the overall creepy tone completely threw me off. This is a "Hallmark movie" that somehow made it to the big screen. I want to see more realistic romance movies. I know this is counterintuitive to what the genre is known for, but still. SOMEONE LIKE YOU feels earnest, but I can't recommend it unless you're a Christian.

A Refreshing Change of Pace

With all the turmoil going on in this world we now live in, it was quite refreshing to see a nice change of pace with this movie . It's heartfelt touching on love, tragedy and faith. It is a nice combination of the three. There is definitely a religious Christian vibe to this flick, but it in no way force feeds an agenda. I personally enjoyed the Christian aspect but for those who are not interested in it, it should in no way interfere with the overall theme of the movie. What's very impressive is that the movie is considered "low budget" but by no means was it apparent. Highly recommend spending a few hours watching to escape the reality of everyday life.

Bio dad

Why was the biological dad not more apart of the story! He certainly should have been! She was so focused of the sister, mother, boyfriend... it truly never recognized her father! Instead it seemed to discount his opinion and presence ant every turn! He should have been included in the decision making and the reconnecting of Andi! Over all the story was good. It just need the father to be included. So, I guess I'll need to keep typing for this review to be included in the over all assignment! Which, I might add, is ridiculous. But, the powers that may be say so, so here it is! Thank you for you time!

Hopeful, Captivating and Super Cool to be in my Hometown!

I personally loved this movie. I loved the book and thought I'm a firm believer of book over movie this movie did a wonderful job of making me evaluate that view. The actors were great and the directing was phenomenal. I loved Andi and Dawson and thought their love story was beautiful. The family dynamics were real, raw, and very well done. It was so cool to see things in my own hometown and the scenes from Smith Lake were beautiful. All of the music was wonderfully chosen. It is the tiniest bit fast paced on parts that needed to be drawn out. Yet, way too slow on parts that needed to be faster. Regardless, a wonderful movie with the cutest dog: Toby!! This is a refreshing clean movie that is a definitely go see!!

To God be the Glory.

Simple Movie

Does anyone know the song the father plays that goes They grew up in Paradise Park?

The movie was okay. Kinda simple without a lot of depth. The acting was so so and the plot was very predictable. I did not feel that the characters were developed with enough depth. It seemed as if the movie didn't know whether it wanted to be faith-based a modern romance or a family movie. It also seems to have random characters in it.

The storyline itself was interesting and if they had chosen a focal point and developed it in my opinion, the movie would have been better. Although the movie was a little bit drawn out in places, it was still watchable.
