'Criminally Insane' (1975) Review
By Chris Wright, MoreHorror.com

Directed By: Nick Millard

Written By: Nick Millard

Starring: Priscilla Alden (Ethel) Jane Lambert (Mrs. Janowski “Grandmother” ), Lisa Farros (Rosalie), Michael Flood (John), George ‘Buck’ Flower (Detective), Cliff McDonald (Dr. Gerard), Charles Egan (Drunk Man).

For a movie with such a silly plot, I am surprised at how much I enjoyed this low budget flick! Also known as “Crazy Fat Ethel”, this Criminally Insane certainly will not appeal to some but will for those who enjoy a fairly well made low budget horror film. Nick Millard’s movies tend to be sleazy low budget movies with a pornographic twist that attracts a small cult following. Among other films are “.357 Magnum” and “Satan’s Black Wedding”. “Criminally Insane” was released by big box budget label World Video Pictures and subsequently received a double feature DVD release several years ago.

The plot begins when Ethel is released...

More Horror Exclusive: Queen of Screams Linnea Quigley Interview
Interviewed by Michael Juvinall, More Horror.com

One of the first and most popular “Scream Queens” from the 1980’s was a girl from Iowa who moved to Los Angeles in the late 70’s with her family. Linnea Quigley started with small roles in even smaller films but she built up her resume and got her big break playing “Trash” in Return of the Living Dead (1985). Since then, she has amassed a wealth of films that cemented her status as a B-movie queen, including roles in such films as Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama (1988), Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (1988), Nightmare Sisters (1988), Night of the Demons (1988), Vice Academy (1989), and many others.

Linnea, along with fellow B-movie actresses Brinke Stevens, and Michelle Bauer were responsible for establishing their Scream Queen status in the 80’s with a prolific resume of horror, sci-fi, and cult film appearances that hasn’t really been equaled since. Whenever anyone...

The Mad Legacy: An Interview with Nick Millard
A little while back, I had the distinctive honor of talking to horror film director Nick Millard, the genius behind Criminally Insane, Death Nurse, and dozens of other wonderful films. Mister Millard has been in the biz since the 1960s, starting out making sexploitation films like Uta and Nympho. In 1975 he went into horror with Criminally Insane, and in 1977 he made action movie history with .357 Magnum. Nick has always been one of my all-time favorite directors, ranking with Norbert Moutier, Todd Sheets, James Bryan, and Doris Wishman, so I had to restraint my inner fanboy to bring these words to print. Take it away, Nick!

Adam Mudman – I’ll kick things off in the best way possible; by asking how you got your start. How did this all begin? How were you raised, and how did it impact your decision to become a filmmaker?

Nick Millard – I remember how it started.

Running the Asylum: An Adventure in Continuity with “Criminally Insane”
There’s kind of a thing with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Doesn’t it always seem like when Tim Burton sits down to make a movie, Johnny Depp plays a main character? There was a similar bond between director Nick Millard and Priscilla Alden. In this instance, Priscilla Alden—who opened up Millard’s alteration from softcore porn to horror cinema with the 1975 Criminally Insane—appears in many, many Millard films. She’s not alone. There are a bunch of other actors—only about four or five others, really—who appear constantly in every single horror movie Millard made up until Death Nurse 2 in 1988. To some, the fact that so few different actors just shows that Millard was a lazy filmmaker who didn’t have any friends. And to me, it shows that there’s something else: continuity. A shared universe. Something that goes beyond just one or...
