This was extremely entertaining and enjoyable. Amazing chemistry and even better characters but dear Chinese producers, WHY SO MANY EPISODES?!?!

Okay so first I have to say that this show is one of the best historical c dramas I have watched ( and I have watched a lot) Very Well made, costumes, photography, hair, details and fight choreography, everything looks quality.

But there's a clear difference between seasons.

The first season of the series is just SUPERB, so different that usually cliché storylines. Characters are rich and layered and they remain loyal to their personality throughout the whole show.

There's no unnecessary drama or miss understandings or miss communications, this is well written script and as realistic as it can be.

Everything feels genuine, natural and real. I love the fact that all women in this drama have so much strength, personality and development in all storylines, there's a lot of sexist remarks but not nearly as much as other shows ( China's dramas are catching up to the korean new standards of feminism on screen and I am all for it)

Males in this one are not overbearing, controlling, stupidly jealous or just alpha troglodytes. They genuinely are considerate of their female partners and family members, which they just have their own voice.

I also need to mention that he comedy style of the main actress is so organic and contagious, you won't be able to stop smiling. I am a big fan of Zhao Lu Si and I have enjoyed deeply her latest works, she is extremely chameleonic and I am in awe watching her to go from shy and naive, to fearless and confident.

It is a shame a lot of that comedy and utterly enjoyable silly and romantic moments almost disappeared completely in season 2. And the only reason for this is the length of the show, I mean SERIOUSLY this show has around 20/25 episodes that are completely unnecessary. It gets boring at times and so dragging . I have said this many times but Chinese producers and directors should stop doing this. Kdrama found the winning formula of 16 episodes per drama and that is just perfect.

I still watched it all because when things are happening the drama is damn good but all those uneventful episodes, I was yawning.

Regardless, you have to watch it, quality in a bottle, you will enjoy it.

Impressive production

Solid production about feisty Cheng Shaoshang (Zhao Lusi) who was left to the care of an unloving grandmother by her warrior parents for 10 years while they had been serving the country. She encounters young general Ling Buyi (Leo Wu) who had witnessed his clan being eradicated 15 years ago. The dream husband of every girl in the capital city, Ling Buyi sets his sights on uncouth and uneducated Shaoshang. Their love would be challenged by his thirst for revenge and her childhood scar of feeling abandoned by her parents.

The story is compelling and the acting, especially of Zhao Lusi, is remarkable. However, the pace in the last few episodes got so draggy I dozed off several times.

Another thing that dampened my initial enthusiasm for this drama was the female lead's irrational tendency to hold on to grudges. She had a hard time forgiving her parents for leaving her with her grandmother even after it was explained why they did so. She also had a hard time forgiving Ling Buyi for abandoning her even when he did it to protect her. I found it hard to fully warm up to such a spiteful female lead. This drama could have wrapped up sooner had she just learned to forgive but the writers seemed to have used that nasty trait of hers to keep dragging the drama out.

One more thing that took points off this drama was Lin Buyi's obsession for revenge. I'm so done with this trope. It was shocking how many people he had to kill just to finally get to his main target. By doing so, he just doomed his future. If any of those people he killed had relatives as obsessive as he was, he and Shaoshang wouldn't be as peaceful and happy in the future as the ending suggested.

The Emperor stole this series, hands down!

Whoever wrote this story deserves all the accolades because this series upended most of the tropes that I dislike in C dramas and made something so refreshing and compulsively watchable. Leo Wu and Zhao Lusi were spectacular and the other actors played their roles skillfully from the first episode until the last, I was glued to my screen. I love this and I honestly don't think there's any series that even comes close to its brilliance. It's a must-watch if you like the interplay of comedy, action, and family drama. Perfection!

(Cheng Shao Shang (Zhao Lu Si) is a young woman who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. As a result, she has grown up alone, in an unforgiving environment, and has become tough and resourceful - but also stubborn and untrusting. She finds it hard to see the good in people and assumes that everyone she meets is trying to get the better of her. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.

One day, a talented, powerful, and highly influential general named Ling Bu Yi (Leo Wu) comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. He resolves to marry her, even though it will cause him no end of problems if he decides to pursue this union. She also warns him that she doesn't trust him and that her stubborn personality might not be suitable for the wife of a general. But Ling Bu Yi also has deep secrets, and there are facts about his true identity that even he does not know. Slowly, they begin to trust one another a little more - and start to investigate the truth about Ling Bu Yi's early childhood, family, and real identity...

This drama was based on a novel by the author Guan Xin Ze Luan. "Love Like the Galaxy" is a 2022 Chinese drama series that was directed by Fei Zhen Xiang.)

My Favourite Costume Drama!

From the superb acting, captivating storyline and over-all great production, I was in awe with this series! What I love the most about this show is the how the characters and story were presented. The main leads' love story is very refreshing for me because we got to see how each of them grew individually with their experiences and how their relationship evolved through time. It is also my first time to watch a show which involves a ruling monarch who doesn't have a bad blood between the Emperor, the Empress and the Consort. It has a total of 56 episodes but I wish it was longer (but they stayed true for the most part from the novel). If you're looking to watch a show with political, romance, family, friendship, and comedy genres, then give this show a go.

Best Chinese drama of 2022

In my opinion, this historical costume drama has it all: comedy, fighting scenes, childhood trauma, slow burning romance, beautiful cinematography, great OST and amazing cast. Every single actor suits the character portrayed in the novel. The evolution of main couple is extremely well done, from cold selfish untrustfull youth, these damaged souls learn to trust and love each other. Their microexpressions, the slightest look will change according to the plot. It may seem like a slow start the first 5 eps, but is necessary to build the background of the characters, so you can understand why / how their teens years shaped their mind.

It is an unusual drama, since both ML and FL are flawed, but this is what makes it unforgettable. Special thanks to Director Fei who researched and prepared each detail of the drama ( see youtube), and special kudos for actress Zhao Lusi and actor Wu Lei, both in their early 20's, for a magnificent performance that made our 2022 summer ungorgettable !

Love Like the Galaxy is a Masterpiece

Definitely, this costume drama is the best drama I have seen so far. The story is great! Director Fei did an amazing job. In addition, I would like to thank the people responsible for selecting the cast for this drama. Both the male and female lead (Wu Lei and Zhao Lusi) did a fantastic job and was able to deliver the best of the characters they portray. The supporting actors and actresses also contributed significantly - it did not even make me feel that they are just support roles. The soundtrack is also perfect - everything about this drama is just done so well. I highly recommend this drama - if you love costume drama, you will LOVE this one. Great story; prepare to laugh and cry. I have been rewatching this drama; I missed the characters and I hope that Wu Lei and Zhao Lusi will have another chance to have another drama. I became a fan after watching. I hope they win the awards for best actor and actress; even best director. They deserve it 😊

If you are looking for a comedy pill then this show is for you.

Oh, its one of the best Chinese shows out there. Although it is more than 50 episodes show, you wont feel like Why I have started this show.

The chemistry between the lead pair is so subtle. Zhao Lusi is again delivering her good performance.

But specially the male lead - Leo Wu is doing a fantastic job. His subtle and serious expression and his indepth character is intriguing.

The story will capture you within first episode. It is light hearted show. With good humour, show will also provide you a good storyline and its execution.

Now talking about cinematography and VFX, this show is meeting our expectations.

All in all , a MUST WATCH Chinese Rom Com.

Zhao Lusi and Wu Lei are hidden GEMS!!

I did not expect anything when I started watching "Love Like The Galaxy", but to my surprise the drama series got so many things to offer, and I still could not believe myself I finished watching it in just a few days.

What made me enjoy "Love Like The Galaxy" so much was the chemistry between Zhao Lusi and Wu Lei. Whenever I saw their moments on screen, I could not help myself from not admiring them. They looked absolutely attractive as well as lovely together.

This was my first time seeing Wu Lei in a drama series and I honestly think he's a terrific actor. He played his character flawlessly and I appreciate him for that. Pairing him with Zhao Lusi was such a perfect choice as they looked so good together on screen. We all know Zhao Lusi is the queen of chemistry as she always makes good chemistry with any actors she's been working with, and that was one of the reasons why I love her so much.

Last but not least, there were some certain episodes that I cried my eyes out, therefore I must give them big appreciation for their remarkable act. Well done, Zhao Lusi and Wu Lei for your hard work! Thumbs up!!

Barely decent in the first half, but a complete disaster in the second half

This is a corny and terrible drama that tried way too hard to slate the female lead as a revolutionary but victimized Mary Sue who is the perfect "heroine" in that era. The characterization of the female character is often times cringy, where an immature and selfish girl was lauded as "special", and everything that came out of her orifice was worshipped like gold. It was completely nonsensical as the chapters (in the novel) and episodes (in the drama) droned on. The male lead was written as the perfect, fantasy guy with almost no flaws whatsoever - even his most serious flaw was deliberately made endearing. The craft of the characterisations of these two mains are forced and I can't believe I actually wasted about 40 hours of my life (for 56 episodes) to watch this. This is just as bad as Twilight with Bella Swan and her fantasy guy Edward. And it blows my mind that so many people gush about this drama like it's the best thing in their lives as if they have never watched anything else before. The audience reactions really take me back to the days of Twilight when it took the world by storm.

Best Chinese historical drama since Phoenixes!

I compare all Chinese historical dramas to the Rise of Phoenixes, which I consider one of the best dramas ever done. This one actually competes well with Phoenixes!

The story, characters and casting are all great, and I shouldn't leave out the cinematography.

Zhao Lusi is spectacular as Shao Shang, the very outspoken heroine who holds her own in a male-centered universe. And Wu Lei as her main love interest is sometimes terrifyingly focused on revenge and killing. They do a believable job of convincing the viewers that their love is possible and real, but tragic in so many ways.

Other actors are well cast, too, and provide great performances.

All in all, a really good drama and well worth watching. I will say that the very last episodes dragged on a bit, but I was so involved in the story by then that I watched all.

Very good but petty criticisms

I liked the show pretty well. It was very well done in bringing ancient people to life. It's very interesting to think of people who passed so long ago. Nothing else have I seen made people come alive so much. Community, friends, family, customs, traditions. It's like I moved there myself and was learning with the locals. The acting was good, the plot was good. Just when I thought it was going to get boring it wasn't but became a mystery adventure. The male lead was very dignified and intriguing.

I overall liked the show a lot,

But, I want to mention my petty criticisms.

1. Side characters and sometimes main characters bickered and argued too much, and non stop. Too boring and stressful.

2. They didn't develop how they fell in love well enough. They should have developed the arc of their love better to make them falling in love more believable.

3. He saves the day, just in time, too many times. It makes the story unbelievable.

4. So much fighting but never dies or gets seriously injured. Not realistic.

5. Main female character was too talented and too intelligent. Makes no sense if she's uneducated. It would be more believable if we saw her do hands on learning that's not scholarly. There's scenes where she's inspecting how something is made. But taking a glance at it for 5 seconds doesn't make you know how to do it.

6. The mother of the main female lead is a total B but then acts wronged because she feels her daughter doesn't appreciate or know her feelings. So annoying she keeps talking like a victim when she's a total B.

7. They kept saying she didn't know etiquette and she was rude and unruly. However, as I saw everyone else was extremely rude to her and she was just defending herself. If a big part of the plot is that she's uneducated and has no etiquette they should have done a better job showing that rather than her just defending herself to a very rude people.

8. The show mixed in the way that they portrayed women. They made it seem like the main female lead was a very strong and powerful and intelligent woman who was strong-willed and unruly. At the same time they showed many female side characters that were full of jealousy, gossip, and hatred who were always plotting and scheming out of jealousy and hate. It just seems like I'm not like other girls I'm better than them all and I'm not like these jealous bees. Seems kind of like it is written by a sexist person who hates women. Even if they were portraying women is strong and equal in relationships ended up modern sense, the constant parade of evil, jealous women makes me wonder if the author has issues. Coupled with the main character who isn't like the other girls!

9. The main character, female lead, always had similar facial expressions. It was annoying.

10. Drama tried too hard to be entertaining because towards the end of the show, every episode had some over the top dramatic assassination attempt or evil act by another relative or somebody.

MUST WATCH

All the actors and actresses play very well, the storyline is very interesting, I watched it 5x, really a good drama. The shooting and visuals are also very good.

The costumes used are very good, the 2 main players provide amazing chemistry, the acting of leo wu and zhao lusi is very mesmerizing. I was really very carried away by the storyline.

Even though I've watched it 5 times but still not bored. I really like leo wu's acting in this drama. What an amazing actor.

Hope leo wu and zhao lusi will play in other dramas, everything in the drama love of galaxy is very mesmerizing. The best cast, interesting story and costumes.

And make up are very fitting.

Every time you see leo wu's gaze at zhao lusi makes you feel that in this world there is still love. Ling buyi is the standard. Truly a must watch drama.

It's been a very long time, I haven't watched a drama with an impact that makes it difficult to move on.

A ROLLER COASTER RIDE EXPERIENCE.

All the cast definitely performed well!!! It exceeded my expectation. Initially, I watched it because of Zhao Lusi but I can't help but adore the other casts as well. They execute their roles awesomely. Most specially, the storyline is really good. It stands out, it's not just the typical c-drama with historical theme. It has its own flavor and it's really interesting to watch.

The angst between Niaoniao's and her mother's relationship always got me. They certainly displayed how mothers and daughters in reality usually be prideful to each other; that they could hurt each other just to prove their points and make the other person realize/feel what they lost.

Overall, I love this drama because it does not only highlight the romantic relationship between the two leads but the reality of how "family" treats each other when it comes to high and low situation.

DEFINITELY A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SERIES. YOU WON'T REGRET WATCHING THIS.

This is the best royal C-drama I've seen so far!

The best royal colossal drama in my opinion so far!!

The scenario writing, cinematography, acting, costume and even other details are really beautiful. Even though it's very long up to 56 episodes, it's not boring!

This is the first time I've watched a colossal drama without skipping because the mix of comedy and suspense is just right in proportion!

I didn't expect to see this type of drama because previously I was not interested in Chinese dramas and only saw Korean dramas.

Zhao Lusi's 2nd drama that I saw after Who Rules The World, I saw her acting getting better and more beautiful in this drama. I really still remember her crying acting after being bullied by the princess.

Edit: this is one of my comfort drama now.

Worth a watch! Good cast, great chemistry, a complete package!

Loved the series! I started watching it for Zhao Luci, she was phenomenal, and I love it when the female lead is not shown as some meek girl, always needing to be rescued by the male lead. She showed from the first episode that she was too smart and calculating, even if it was too much for her own good. The male lead was played by Leo Wu, my first time watching him, but definitely not the last. He played his character well, it is actually not easy to play a character who doesn't smile often, but he could still portray a wide range of emotions. The chemistry between the leads was great, and I felt bad for the vice minister of justice, he was too handsome and devoted to the girl he loved, but still couldn't get together with her in the end. There were a lot of frustrating moments in the show, where you find yourself annoyed that the leads are staying apart, but the story was captivating and kept my interest throughout. The character of the king was my favourite, he livened up the scene whenever he appeared. I also loved the humour that was injected in the most serious war scenes. Overall, I'd say I like a series if it has a strong female lead, this series had it all, political plots, romance, action, melodrama, and a happy ending to make viewers happy!

A Standout of Dramatic brilliance!

In the Chinese drama Love of the Galaxy, based on the novel by Guan Xin Ze, a remarkable, emotional plot portrayed with stunning cinematography, impressive sets, and finally a stellar cast bringing to life the intricacies of the characters. It's an outstanding display of brilliance in this historical Chinese drama.

A powerful general with secrets of his own, Lin Buyi(Wu Lei) has a lot to hide. His forever is found as soon as he sees the cynical Cheng Shaoshang (Zhao Lusi). Her trust, however, is distorted by her upbringing or lack thereof, which turns what should be an epic love story into a rollercoaster of plotting, misunderstandings, and poor communication, putting them both on a path of uncertainty.

Overall Love of the Galaxys compelling storyline is an exceptional display of when everything falls into place.

The standout performance for me was the character Emperor Wen, portrayed by Bao Jianfeng.

His performance was outstanding, witty, terrific timing, and the most loveable goof of the entire show.

Was hoping for a drama along the quality of The Story of Minglan, but was very disappointed.

I had high hopes for Love Like the Galaxy, especially since it's adapted from a novel by the same author as The Story of Minglan, one of my all-time favorite C-dramas. The series is split into two parts, with 27 episodes in the first and 29 in the second, following the story of Shaoshang (FL) and Buyi (ML). Unfortunately, it left me deeply disappointed.

The primary issue is with the plot and character development. The first part of the drama revolves heavily around Shaoshang's love life. However, instead of being nuanced or emotionally engaging, it often feels like petty high school drama. Most episodes devolve into a repetitive cycle of: academic/royal families looking down on military families, childish squabbling and whining from the majority of female characters, Shaoshang behaving poorly in public and her behaviour being excused with the overused justification that she wasn't taught proper etiquette, her mother's excessive criticism of her in front of an audience, comparison between Shaoshang and her cousin (brought up either by Shaoshang or her mom), followed by someone predictably defending Shaoshang's "free spirit." Not exaggerating, at least half the show is just a rehash of this in various settings with different characters as the antagonist.

While I understand that the drama is not set in a particular dynasty, and I generally give creative liberties to fictional historical settings, there's a limit to how much disbelief I can suspend. Female generals being accepted and respected? Completely fine. Multiple characters falling in love at first sight? Questionable but no big issue. The greedy old matriarch of a family acting like a three year old and constantly shouting in every scene she's in? Incredibly annoying, but she's the character you're supposed to dislike so I'll give it a pass. However, when the emperor spends more effort playing matchmaker for the male lead than governing, it becomes silly. The royal edict issued for the sake of the Buyi's romantic pursuits was especially jarring.

Overall, the historical backdrop feels like mere window dressing. "Traditions" are there when it's convenient, and casually tossed aside when it's not, leaving the show with little to no internal consistency when it comes to the world building. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, they put in a scene where Shaoshang's parents, both of whom are not high ranking generals, straight up refuse the Emperor's marriage arrangement between Shaoshang and Buyi, which is absurd even in an historical fantasy setting as the world still has a basis in Chinese dynasties. This is so the mom can once again, trash talk her daughter, this time in front of all the royals, giving Buyi another opportunity to declare his undying love and wax poetic about how Shaoshang's the best girl ever. The show is full of silly and forced moments like this, and because the male lead has the backing of the Emperor, he gets to do and say anything he wants with little consequence, and sometimes acts more like he's the crown prince than the crown prince himself. It feels like the emperor cares more about Buyi than any of his own children.

The more intriguing part of the story regarding the male lead's quest to uncover the conspiracy behind his family's near annihilation takes a backseat to the trivial romantic drama. But even that plotline is lacking in depth, and doesn't really get going until you reach the second part. One of the selling points of these harem intrigue/residential intrigue shows is the battle of wits between the characters, but none of the schemes from any of the characters feel particularly clever. In fact a lot of the character's actions are quite juvenile. We don't even get to see the female and male leads navigate and solve issues together for the majority of the show, it's a glaring missed opportunity.

I expected the usual trope of multiple male characters being infatuated with the female lead, which is standard for this genre. However, the exaggerated dedication of a supporting male character, who seems to exist solely to chase after her, became grating. (If you've seen Blossom, the monk character shares the same archetype of "intelligent but cold and callous romantic rival with a sharp tongue". Except the monk actually has his own wants and needs/goals outside of chasing after the female lead. This guy doesn't, as 95% of his screentime is just him being jealous of Buyi or poorly wooing Shaoshang.)

This would have been more bearable if Shaoshang is a compelling protagonist. Unfortunately, compared to iconic "big female leads" like Zhenhuan (Empresses in the Palace) and Minglan (The Story of Minglan), or even characters from less well-regarded dramas like Dou Zhao (Blossom) or Wei Fang (Flourished Peony), Shaoshang mostly comes across as a petulant and ungrateful child. While the narrative excuses her lack of etiquette and decorum, it becomes implausible that she would remain so ignorant of basic social norms when constantly surrounded by courtly behavior. The way she acts in front of the royal court in particular strains credulity. The actress's portrayal did not help matters, as I found her performance unconvincing and lacking in emotional depth. It feels like the show really wants us to think that she's resourceful, brave, and smart, but it doesn't come across as genuine. Different characters can keep heaping praises on her, but it doesn't really mean much if it feels unearned. Yes, she had a tough childhood and she constantly talks about how unlucky she is, but there are characters who have much harder lives and less support than she does. The emperor, empress, and concubine go out of their way to defend her and Buyi all the time. About halfway through her "woe is me" attitude becomes fairly exhausting, and makes it hard to ship the main CP which should have been a major selling point of this drama, especially since Buyi does so much for her. I ended up liking most of her female friends more than her, and was baffled at why several male characters think she is the end-all be-all or speak of her as an outstanding beauty.

What sets a great C-drama apart for me is a compelling narrative beyond the central romance, especially when the hardship the main leads go through helps to elevate that romance. Whether it's the intricate political machinations of Nirvana in Fire I & II or the gripping espionage of The Wind Blows From Longxi, the best dramas offer layered storytelling. But even if we look at the more romance focused dramas like The Story of Minglan, which is very comparable to this, it excelled in balancing romance with familial and political conflicts, with a climax that satisfactorily went beyond the inter-family drama while remaining within the realm of acceptable suspension of disbelief. Even the fantastical Blossom somehow had more believable characters. Love Like the Galaxy fails to achieve that balance, with so much of the focus on the love life of the female lead that just ends up feeling so lackluster and annoying.

Overall, I started this show with high hopes and found Love Like the Galaxy to be very overrated. It was a struggle for me to finish the first part of this drama, and I debated whether or not I should continue. I made it through episode 34, giving it a fair shake before calling it quits, because the main thing that changed in part 2 was just taking the high school squabbling and antics from Shaoshang's home to the royal courts. The battle of wits or political intrigue sadly doesn't get any better, and many characters feel like archetype caricatures with little nuance. I would recommend any of the other shows mentioned in my review over this one. I haven't read the source material for this or Minglan, but I ended up questioning if the reason Minglan is so much better than this, even though it was written and filmed years earlier, is mainly due to the efforts of the TV adaptation writers and the changes they made. If you're seeking a drama with well-developed characters and engaging plots, this is unfortunately not it.

Love like a Galaxy just Brilliant

Definitely the BEST Cdrama I have viewed in a while. From the main roles to every cast member put together brought a fantastic production. The leads Wu Lei and Zhao Lusi were excellent in every way possible. Every joy, pain sadness was felt through their performance. The director really knew what and how to get this great pair to bring out such beautiful acting.

I wish to see Wu Lei and Zhao Lusi in more drama's together because their on screen chemistry is so natural, almost impossible to deny. Well done to the best drama for 2022 and hope to see many more in years to come.

Just an add-on to the most loved characters in this drama, are the 2 loyal and faithful soldiers to General Ling and the Emperor. Wen. Great performance.

Excellent but overly prolonged

This historical series has an excellent plot, great cast and well executed. Both female and male leads are top notch and pair well together. Their characters are both flawed as they have both undergone hardships throughout their lives. Thus when both fall in love, they go emotionally deep. FL has trust issues and ML has a revenge agenda which he tries to keep from FL in case she and her family gets implicated in his plans. I read a lot of negative comments about FL holding long grudges against ML when he betrayed her trust (even though he was protecting her) and I nearly decided not to finish the series but thankfully I completed the series and having watched it, I understand why FL acted the way she did. There are many characters in the series who I like which includes the funny emperor and his two wives, FL's grandmother is funny too though sometimes annoying, Ml's 2 close soldiers are interesting characters too. I thought too much emphasis were given to the bullying from the annoying princesses - there were just too many repetitive incidents. Many scenes especially those nearing the end of the series were rather slow. Would have been perfect if they had finished the series with less episodes. All in all, worth watching especially for the excellent performances from FL and ML.

The general of all general

Wu lei as ling buyi imo is the general of all general. He serve so well, i can't believe he is quite young as he acts so well. The changing of his eyes when he is in general mode to when he stare to his beloved is insane that feel like he really a real cold general with darkest past and at same time also a human a man who fall in love and fall even harder everyday to the female lead.

This drama what made me fall deeper into the charms of cdrama again after sometime. Frim story to yes the unbeatable beautiful cinematography of cdrama with high budget even make want to go back to ancient china. Highly recommended.
