German HEIMATFILM (Modern Style) with Charly HÜBNER

What a wonderful film!

Based on a novel by Dörte HANSEN, Lars JESSEN tells of the changes in the German countryside over the past 60 years. And about the devastation of the war, which shaped the mental lives of so many people long after 1945.

A Kiel university lecturer (Charly HÜBNER) returns to his home village to look after his parents in need of care. He gradually discovers what secrets exist in his family. From 1965 to 2012, this development is revealed in different stages. The ensemble is simply fantastic! Also worth mentioning is Gro Swantje KOHLHOF as Marret. A magical moment occurs when you see the fantastic Gabriela Maria SCHMEIDE and Rainer BOCK dancing to "Wir wollen niemals auseinandergehen / We never want to go apart" by EUROVISION star Heidi BRÜHL! GOOSE FLESH!!!

You should definitely experience this film, which has sold 282,201 tickets so far, on the big screen! IT'S WORTH IT!!!

We are family

No pun intended - a movie that is quite heavy, which you may not have guessed with a (head)line like that. Especially with the connection you may make (song wise especially) ... this really is about giving back to your parents - whatever they did for you - it is time to take care of them. But what sounds normal and nice ... well can be quite difficult and near impossible. They have their own mind and their own agenda.

It is really well played - and you never really get bored - which may not have been the easiest thing to do. I stumbled across this and am glad I did. Streaming services have taken over - and what I once rented in video stores ... well I have to find on my own by browsing. The main character may not have had the time to do the same .. if you like drama, if you are into family stuff ... if you like character pieces ... well you could do a lot worse ...
