Selmo (FPJ) lives peacefully working for the local estate owner or haciendero. His hard and honest work has been rewarded by the don giving him a piece of land. The don's heir and only son, Lamberto (Romy Diaz), have information that his land is sitting on a fortune. He coerces Selmo to sell but he refuses. Lamberto resorts to underhanded tactics, enlisting the help of his henchmen and two mercenaries with whom who have a shared history with Selmo.
Sanctuario is a classic FPJ film. The setting is ambiguous but costume design and location gives a general consensus of its period. Its timelessness, although interesting, falls through a stereotypical trope popular in FPJ movies. Dencio Padilla and Paquito Diaz give solid performances in their respective roles. Hopefully, a good restoration of the movie can help turn out decent colors that will compliment the location. Overall, it's a decent FPJ movie, not more than the usual but still an entertaining one.
