It took a weekend to shoot the film.
Set in the haunting and unsettling woods of Chile, Invoking Yell is an ode to the found footage films of the 90s with a black metal twist.
Filmed at 29.97 fps to capture the video aesthetic of the 90s. Recorded with a Sony FS7 camera in 2K. Later in post-production, a combination of analog and digital techniques was used to achieve the retro look of a VHS tape.
The inspiration for the title was drawn from two bands that the director has been listening to for years. "Invoking" comes from his hometown band, Invoking Howl, and "Yell" is inspired by the Chilean death metal band called Death Yell.
The entire film crew consisted of only two people: Patricio Valladares, who operated the camera and directed the film, and Vittorio Farfan, who served as the on-site producer and director of photography. The actresses used a lavalier microphone throughout the entire movie.
