My mind is confused by some people thinking this is a reboot of the old Richard O'Sullivan series 40 odd years ago.
This is simply a daft-as-a-brush comedy based on the same historical figure, though very, very loosely.
Dick (fnaar) Turpin is simply the framework to hang this silly show on, and thus far its holding the weight very well.
Our Turpin is a foppish goth who likes knitting. He lucks his way into being the leader of a Motley highwayman gang and they proceed to get into daft scrapes.
It's a very funny and silly show, with no pretence of realism or historical accuracy. That's fine by me. I'm not a huge fan of Noel Fielding, especially when he goes surreal and weird, but here he simply uses his natural charm and mild eccentricity to great effect.
A real unexpected treat for lovers of daft comedy.

Noel Fielding on Bake Off is a complete mystery to me. Un-funny and a silly add-on that adds nothing to the programme... which I really dislike in any case. However, in The Completely made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin he's back to the character that made 50% of the Mighty Boosh very, very funny. It's Marmite... you either love it or hate it, but here are a lot of the Boosh gags and personalities, brought back to life in a great situation. Great costume opportunities, great characters, daft non-sequiturs and some truly excellent guest appearances. Hugh Bonneville is inspired casting... as is greg Davies in episode 2. I absolutely loved it. Can't wait for episode three. Even the opening credit sequence is superb... what gorgeous animation! And Bob Fossil makes an appearance too. If you like Our Flag Means Death you will probably like this. I heartily recommend it.
Great dialogue, this is silly humour that features a great performance by Noel Fielding with a bunch of really funny character actors adding to the comedy. Hugh Bonneville is brilliantly hamming it up as the Thieftaker General (hampered by his childcare problems).
This isn't purely slapstick comedy, it's intelligently done with present day references slotted in really well. The conversations are often hilarious.
Hugh talking about catching Turpin: "I want this Dick in my hands as soon as possible!" - cue sniggering from his young son.
I'd never seen Noel in anything until now but this really amused me! Definitely worth a watch for any fans of clever comedy writing in the Python or even Carry On mould.

This was a lot of fun. If you're a fan of silly, off-the-wall comedies, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin will be an enjoyable ride. The episodes are short and lively, so you can watch all six instalments in under three hours. A lot of the jokes don't really land, but enough do that you'll find yourself laughing along, even if you're not rolling on the floor in hysterics. All of the characters are enjoyable and the situations entertaining. Hopefully, Apple TV+ already has plans for another season, because I'll definitely welcome another set of adventures with Turpin and his gang. I'd like to mention one other thing I really enjoyed about this show - that Turpin is a pacifist and triumphs because of some luck, a few smarts, and a choice to avoid violence whenever possible. That's pretty refreshing in today's world.
Quirky, light hearted fun. An excellent show for the whole family. If you don't "get it", you're not trying hard enough. Rather than fall into the trap of the same old comedic tropes, I found the humour quite irreverent, you never know what Noel will come up with next or in what direction each character is going to go. Great supporting cast and it's nice to see a show which clearly doesn't take itself too seriously whilst still providing the touchstones of today's society as a guide to the storyline. The scenery and costumes are lavish, the dialogue witty and not a moment is wasted in this romp. The jokes on you if you don't see the funny side.
