The Pass

I like this short film, ambiguous, a bit disturbing, subtle, with several reading grids. It is question of homosexuality, gay characters, but I repeat, shown in a very complex, subtle way. Short and interesting. You never know actually if those characters are gay or not, that's precisely where it is so riveting. And I am not at all interested by those BROADBACK MOUNTAIN topics, not my stuff, but this one is short, with no superficial shot, no superficial dialogue. There is a message here, and I would say, several messages.... From time to time, it is very interesting to see such stories. No use to watch long length movies.

The ambiguity is the main virtue of this short film reminding, in some measure, one of Francois Ozon works.

A biker looking for swimming place.

A suggestion from a guy.

A bizarre man trying to flirt with young swimmer. A smart craft of tension example. And a nice final.

In short, a kind of game proposed by director to viewer, in which the atmosphere and the suppositions are more significant than the story itself.

Good acting, nice story and interesting scenes of swim doubled by conversation of young man with grave digger.

To write too much about this film seems pretty unfair. The dialogue represents an obvious good point. But it remains, for a time after final credits, in memory, as a real nice provocative short film, feeling the water and the impecable constructed thrill.
